Saying Binary Domain drags while also saying you could just freely headshot all the enemies seems a little contradictory to me. Most of the game is combat encounters, so if you can push through them at a good pace the game shouldn't take feel like it is taking too long. A common theme seems to be "bosses fucked my shit up, I didn't like that".

The game still took 9 hours. Even rushing through all the combat in the back half, it took a while to play. The bosses aren't tough either. The solution to almost every one of them is shoot it with the charge shot or run around in a big circle until it loses interest in you, then shoot the weak spot. It just takes forever to kill some of them.

There's just a point in the game where they stop advancing the story for 3-4 hours and you're stuck with the worse half of the group doing nothing but fighting over and over and over. I enjoyed when it picked up again in the last hour, even if the ending wasn't great. There were just so many times where I would think, "alright, HERE is where it's going to get good", then just did the same crap again and again.

They had a neat idea trying to apply the Dead Space style limb removal to a more traditional TPS, but there's never any reason to do anything but shoot their heads.

One more thing. I thought it was so damn goofy how they handled the dialogue responses. The other characters will have these long conversations with you, but you never have the chance to respond with anything more than, "Sure", "Nope", "God Damn". It's even weirder that the response isn't voiced at all. I guess that's because they hoped you would use the voice recognition stuff. All that stuff sounded to stilted because of that. That entire trust system was pretty pointless as well. You just agreed with whatever everyone said, then very high trust with everybody. It would have been more interesting if the responses were zero-sum in some cases. Then I might have actually thought about my responses, rather than just choosing the positive response every single time.

The new site seems cool. I think it's cleaner and more elegant. The video resume feature is great and seems to work exactly like it should.

The front page is really choppy when scrolling though. And the HTML5 video player blows up the fan on my macbook, which it should not do. I hope that's fixable.

There are a few cases where you have to choose between two characters, but it doesn't happen too often.

I still think it's a better way of handling loyalty than just a single loyalty mission in ME2. That said, there aren't really that many other examples of similar relationship building outside of VNs. Dragon Age tried to do the same thing, but all you had to do was just bring an "all good" party with you to avoid pissing anyone off. KoTOR2 was interesting in that if you choose to be too light side or dark side, one of your party members will turn on you.

Their new site is still lacking in essentials, like every redesign before this one has: Videos aren't sorted and tagged to reasonable categories, the overview shows neither date nor length of the videos, there's no option to only show GB original content.

In addition, going through paginated sites is still very annoying (due to the AJAX driven nature as well as the inability to quickly jump in content either through entering a date range or page number). This is especially bothersome on their podcast as well as video pages.

Their video-search engine still offers an absolutely horrible user experiences, often barely useful and hinders the discovery of content.

Absolutly agree. Considering for how long we've been asking for some of those features, not seeing them in a full redesign is incredibly dissapointing.

The video sorting is terrible. The fact that you can't search for quickook types (example all the racing quicklooks or all the fighting games, etc) is stupid. And also, the search on the video page will still search all the videos, not just the category you are in right now.

So, for example, if you are looking at the quicklook category and search a game title it will still show you all the trailers/reviews/tnt etc... totally useless.

Not in on the beta, but hearing this bums me out. For a website all about the intermingling of concepts, characters, gametypes, etc., I'm surprised they haven't improved on the integration of their own content with that stuff.

At first glance the new site looked quite horrid. Those fonts are hi-de-ous and way too large. The main banner taking over half the frontpage is also waaaay too much.

But after I corrected it with a few taps of [CTRL] [-] it started looking pretty alright.

Edit: Sticky video is a fucking revelation though. So good.

Stretched fonts, what are you guys talking about? Looks fine to me:

Chrome on OSX.

Is it rendering differently than that screenshot? Or does the fonts in the screenshot look like crap to you? I'm just curious if it's a browser font rendering issue or just a personal preference.

Maybe both. I think the serif font looks crap, that's just personal preference. The serif fonts in articles look weird. They're bold but it looks like when you try to make a non-bold font look bold.

On my Windows PC, the serif fonts used for the headers look jagged. It's probably because I set the zoom on Chrome to 90% to make everything less obnoxiously huge. It also has the nasty side effect of making the actual font used for the article thin and hard to read.

I know some people like their fonts jagged and raw, but I am not one of them.

On OSX though, using the exact same zoom settings, everything looks fine.
I tried to made an image to compare them, but the compression on both images makes the differences seem less severe than they actually are.

I tried messing with the cleartype settings on Windows, but it didn't do anything.
Maybe this is not really related to the GB website but more a browser/OS thing in general, but I thought i'd mention it here.

Jeff Gerstmann played the following releases for this game: Dead or Alive 5 (Collector's Edition) (X360) Dead or Alive 5 (PS3) Dead or Alive 5 (Collector's Edition) (PS3) Dead or Alive 5 (X360) Dead or Alive 5 (PS3N) Dead or Alive 5 (PS3) Dead or Alive 5 (Collector's Edition) (X360) Dead or Alive 5 (X360) Dead or Alive 5 (Collector's Edition) (PS3) Dead or Alive 5 (X360) Dead or Alive 5 (PS3)

Eh, kinda a mess.

Yeah, they've been talking about losing the portraits for ages, which is a damn shame because I thought they were great for the site's tone/personality. It really helped draw me in and quickly get a feel for the place when I first started visiting.

Yeah, it seems kinda sterile.

Shit, I loved those portraits and I didn't even realise they were gone until now! Their Bombcast background (was that by the same artist?) is just a gradient now too. I'm adding Dave to my list of stealth hipsters.

Also, I'm with you guys that everything is obnoxiously big now.

Looks even worse considering I'm on an old 1024x768 display (temporarily of course).

On the bright side, the lack of portraits will make it easier for CBSi to fire the staff and replace them with freelancers/interns. :V

Well I just unfollowed Alex Navarro on Twitter...

18 Children killed and he's making gun control jokes.

Fuck off.

Did they have any reasoning to why they didn't like them?

Brad get in here and explain.

They didn't mesh well with what the scores ended up meaning. Here's everyone's three-star image:

brad-3.png
jeff-3.png
vinny-3.png
ryan-3.png

These all display different emotions to the score. A three-star didn't really end up meaning "what the fuck?" as in Ryan's or "I don't even know" as in Vinny's. Brad's seems pretty good, but that may just be because it could be the one-star image or five-star image too.

Edit: And because we hardly ever see them, here are all the one-star images:

Make new unambiguous drawings then! So sterile now

Those 1-star pics are great too haha

Alex does a bunch of reviews. Would probably just mean more work for Jeff and Brad if he left.

I liked Jeff's 4-star pic. Really positive considering how terrible and bad a game that only got technically statistically an 80%, obviously of course.

Fuck off.

Wait what? Where did he make a joke? He's been talking about the CT thing and gun control...like a LOT of people are doing right now but I don't see any jokes in there...

I thought those three star images all work perfectly. They all mean "eh" to me.

Make new unambiguous drawings then! So sterile now

Yep. My suggestion has been to make a new set of images every year or two, corresponding to whatever shenanigans they have been up to. One year it would have been a set of five Luchadore pics, another year Cool Baby, etc.

You don't think this is in incredibly poor taste?

18 Children just died and you are making Mayan apocalypse jokes?

Hey, I never even saw this, but apparently Kessler had his own review image:

mattbodega-1.png

It's the same across all scores though, like Dave's, Drew's, and Alex's.

Edit: Andy McCurdy has one picture for a five-star from 2008. No other pictures exist.

Ah yeah ok I missed that one. Yeah not great. But then again, the amount of stupidity that is said on both sides of the argument today is terrible. There's days when having a tool that allows you to share with the whole everything that goes through your head is not a good thing.

About the new GB Site, I just noticed that they took out the "Friends online" indicator and apparently the friends activity (I can't find it anyway)... This is so stupid, the first thing I do when I go on GB every single time is check who's online and then check the staff's activity on the site since my last visit.

Edit: Ah no ok you still see the activity. It was just lost in the middle of all the twitter updates on my profile page. Not as bad then.
