I think we need to make it a federal issue instead of a state issue. I actually know a guy who is legally not allowed to buy guns in ca because of a conviction for assault. He can however just go to Oklahoma, get a state ID, and proceed to purchase an assault rifle and a handgun. I watched him do it.....We "kind" of do that in "some" states, but the process is still full of holes and is easily exploitable by design, and any attempts to tighten it up are rebuffed. That's the problem.
