Fuck this. We as a human race need to do something about this. I know horrible things happen to people all over the world every day, but it's clear there's more we can be doing here.

I don't even know how I can function the rest of the day. I'm in complete shock as to how a human being can be so empty and uncaring.

I can't even think straight. I have a 1 1/2 year old son that I just love more than anything that exists. Yesterday we found out that our second, due in may will be a girl.

I can barely even hear this news right now. What a scary, rotten world. Except that I feel lucky every day that all the horrible things that can happen as a parent haven't for one more day. It makes me feel a physical reaction to think of these parents whose luck ran out.

Im thinking of the parents. Damn, terrible. On a much much lower importance level, the xmas trees n presents will be a fucked up reminder their son or daughter is gone forever.

my god, the thought some of those parents showing up and waiting for hours for a son/daughter that will never show up:(

Incredible sadness.

God, this breaks my heart. Was probably the kids last week before their Christmas break.

Jesus Christ, I feel like crying. How could someone do this......

Fuck shit man .. .I really could hold everything in but after this post and this imagination I couldn't hold it...

What a disgusting person does this ...

This. Incredible respect and sadness for any teachers that were killed trying to protect the kids. Terrible, terrible news.

The one at VT who barricaded himself in front of the door and took bullets through it, was the saddest thing I ever read.

Its amazing to me that Columbine is still the one these are all compared too, when VT was WAY worse, the dude chained doors shut to lock people in. I mean columbine is still one of the most facisnating things you can study, its weird that VT isnt mentioned more

hell no they lit him the fuck up thankfully.

"Thankfully"? No, that's yet another horrible thing. People who do stuff like this need to be studied. Gun law reform will be vastly more effective if we can learn all we can about the people who perpetrate these crimes and identify early warning signs that allow authorities to keep them from legally owning guns in the first place. Will they still be able to get illegal guns? In many cases, yes, but that doesn't mean it's not worth putting that one extra obstacle between them and something like what happened today.

Except that its relatively simple to convert a semi automatic rifle or handgun into a fully auto gun with little modifications to the firing pin. I've actually shot semi auto guns before that basically turned themselves into fully auto over time because the components started to wear down.

No, no, no. That was in ancient times, when open bolt designs were still allowed. Nowadays modifying a semiauto weapon to fire in full auto requires some serious gunsmithing and special components (either ilegally purchased or machined from zero).

What you are describing is a rather unusual malfunction that makes those weapons completely uncontrollable as you can't stop the firing cycle (so basically they fire until they run empty). I've experienced that with some competition pistols. That's not how full auto works and it's actually dangerous for the shooter.

In any case, we are talking about a school shooting, not a warfare situation that requires suppressive fire or anything like that. You could cause the same amount of mayhem with a semiauto, maybe even a pistol. Those were just kids in a confined space.

Killed by the police or by his own hand, it's a damn shame the shooter took the easy way.

Fuck this. My son is in the second grade and my wife is a kindergarten teacher. We need some stricter gun laws. The NRA and gun enthusiasts need to stfu and deal with it.

But how can that debate really be started when one side is so ideologically opposed to compromise that the conversation cant get past it?

Generally speaking it's the assumption that most that are "stereotypically anti-gun" want to ban all guns and that any steps of gun control are just one small step to that end.

One small step, perfectly justifiable. Then another. Then another. Then after time the right itself is completely compromised.

Right now I don't care about gun control. My heart just goes out to those kids, teachers, staff and families involved.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

Stop it people. Grow some fucking balls and just kill yourselves instead of bringing innocent people with you.

:-(

Reports are that he used two handguns, so my point is mostly moot. Though I know it is very easy to convert them, still not legal.

Gun ownership will never disappear from America. If an individual was able to do this with hand guns, then the protocol for such situations is broken. I thought police were stationed at every public school at this point? Was this not the case here?

I swear they throw this out there every time and it's never true.

Take any group of people, subject them to an intense event and you'll get all kinds of accounts of what really happened. And its not like police can decide not to investigate a second shooter if thats what people thought they saw/heard.

What can you say about this :( I don't even have the energy to go on a rant about society :(

I think it's because VT involved all adults, it was horrible but children in grade school and high school is on a whole different level.

I just got up from a nap and was flipping through the channels and saw this on CNN. Jesus fucking christ what kind of sick fuck would do this to kids?! What did these kids do to deserve this so close to Christmas?! I really am at a loss of words here. I feel for the parents of these victims.
