I don't see Flash working at all with the tone Nolan has established.

I doubt even Superman can, but we'll see. I guess maybe they could widen the "character" of Gotham that drives all three of his movies to whole planet but I just don't think that will work. His Batman movies are barely superhero movies, whereas Justice League as a concept is pretty much 100% superheroing.

People play the "realism" up too much for Nolan's Bats

They are very much superhero movies, both in actions and plots. Their tone are basically Nolan's style of movie making.

In terms of a JLA movie, IMO they should do a World's Finest movie before bringing all the other heroes in one movie full force.

Josh Topolski did a pretty funny take on TDKR on The Verge podcast and called it "The worst thing of the year". Its close to the end of the podcast.

Somehow a tech journalist site taking money from Microsoft is not the worst thing of the year? Odd perspective that dick has.

he died for the fucking most flattest cause

really thought it'd be more surprising, almost religious, just more fucking substance

no, we have a bomb and we're gonna take over a city with it

Come on, Mariolee. If you aren't getting shot at you aren't doing your job right.

lol the way she plays Bruce so that there's no way they'll be together whether he admits he's Batman or not. Oh gawd.

Also just noticed the Harvey Dent sticker on the Joker's nurse uniform.

Always thought it was pretty cool how Rachel was entirely Nolan's creation and quite the hinge for the whole trilogy at that. Hard to imagine us getting to that ending without a character like hers.

Some of these are pretty obvious / a big stretch, but the Alfred stuff especially is cool.

Great movie loved it.
A couple of noob questions, spoilers ahead:

1) When Bruce climbed out of the pit, did he mean to free all the prisioners by throwing them the rope at the top?

2) When the tech guy told Fox that Bruce patched the autopilot software and was enabled, is this confirmation that he did eject to escape and Alfred's vision of Bruce and Catwoman is true and not Alfred's dream?

3) What about the radiation of the bomb? It did explode far into the sea, but Gotham had to be evacuated anyway right?

Thanks.

No need for spoilers.

1. Yep, Bruce was freeing the other prisoners.

2. Bruce fixed the auto pilot. That was Bruce's way of telling Lucius that he was alive, and Alfred really did see Bruce.

3. I'll let this be answered by someone on the IMDB FAQ about the film.

Wouldn't a nuclear bomb have caused significant nuclear fallout once detonated?

They never really touch on the radiation issues with the bomb. Dr. Pavel refers to it as a nuclear/neutron bomb. Astute viewers would think that the radiation would poison the water and cause significant fallout in the city of Gotham. Though the film does not suggest such a thing would happen, it could be said that because the fusion reactor was a brand new technology for sustainable energy, perhaps the radiation it gives off is minimal, to the point of being negligible or harmless. This would also be in keeping with The League of Shadows' motives. Their intention is to destroy Gotham and its corrupt inhabitants in order to restore order. However, if they set off a nuclear bomb that produces significant fallout, this could spread far beyond Gotham, crippling far more of the country than intended. To have a bomb that has the effects of a nuclear blast but little to none of the fallout, this would be perfect for their intentions. The original script, which is available online, describes the reactor as working with "No radiation, no fossil fuels." As for the technological explanation, Fusion (which is the Sun's fuel source) produces too little radiation compared to Fission (Nuclear reactors used around the world). So this means that in mid-air the reactor explosion would produce just a few droplets of radiated material which would be converted to no-radiation material before it reaches ground.

So I'm rewatching The Dark Knight, and...Rachel's kind of an asshole.

Maybe.

Yeah one of my biggest gripes and the real reason the death of Rachel didn't work for me was because she goes from a caring, in love with Bruce, confident yet vulnerable woman in BB to asshole Rachel in TDK.

I don't know if that's how she was written or that's how Maggie decided to play her but Rachel was so much better in BB.

I love all three, but really the trilogy would have been so much better if Katie and or Tom didn't go crazy and she was in TDK. Then again we have no idea how it would have all turned out if Heath didn't die.

I haven't seen any good counter arguments to criticisms. All I saw was "It's the same as other terrible movies! Don't you watch those?" and "I personally didn't even notice how profoundly irrational and incoherent that was, so most people probably didn't and you're too sensitive/over-analytical!"

Sorry that I expect Batman to be a little more than Sad Bro With Gadgets.

I'm sorry that you keep misunderstanding. Maybe I need to hammer it home more with less subtle posts.

What exactly do you want people to do? Prove you wrong? Make you like the movie?

Are their problems with the movie? Yes. Is it perfect? Nope? Flawed? Yes. Isn't every movie? Did I go over this shit back when the movie came out? Yes.

The whole point of mentioning the same problems in other movies was to show that the same individuals who spend so much time breaking this movie down and into pieces just to rip its problems, are the ones who ignore similar problems in other movies when they like the overall product. Which is fine because if the overall movie works for you, you are less likely to care about some plot points or irrational things you find later. This is the case with tons of people who really liked this movie.

So no I don't care to prove you wrong. You win. You didn't like the movie. It must suck and you and you superior taste are above the low level hammer over the head style Nolan tricks his dumb audiences with.

I don't understand those who hate the "haters". It's clear most of the people here like Batman too, otherwise they wouldn't be here. People like effzee who just want haters to go, fair enough, but what will you discuss then? There's little to discuss when everyone agrees, the thread would go into oblivion. You might as well just kill the thread, if some of you can't take people who disagree with you.

I think I have said this so many times now I don't know how else to put it.

This thread now is largely running still because of BatGaf and some people who are now just watching it for the first time. Tons of people over the past 6 months have posted their dislike and or hatred for the movie. I don't give a shit.

I was only addressing a certain few posters who can't fathom anyone thinking differently or liking something they don't so in addition to posting their opinions, they need to talk down to or tell others how bad their tastes are for liking the movie. And to them I say fuck off. Now you have DICE trying to ask for some counter to his arguments as if we are discussing scientific theory and those of us who liked/loved the movie need to bring evidence for him to judge. For you see he likes Malick so he could not understand how anyone can like this.

Pretty sure I discussed the movie with tons of posters here who even if I disagree with at the end I know where they are coming from.

Oh wait effzee! I think I can answer my own question.

It's critical reception! It's like the wild card in Uno, it works on everything!

You are banned. Don't know for what but I wish it was for being a moron.

78 is what now? Terrible? Not a convincing argument for the movie? What does it need to be? The Dark Knight sits at 82 and Batman Begins is at 70. Pretty good for a superhero trilogy.

Yet somehow we should ignore all commercial and critical success to conform to your opinion of the movie as fact?

And a quick look at metacritic's home page shows some other big movie releases which will probably held in much higher regard and be nominated for Oscars sitting at or hovering around 75-80 on their scale. They must all suck! Especially the Hobbit cause that is at 58!

But of course as usual you missed the point. I never claimed the movie is great as a fact which you can't argue against. Movies can't be factually great or perfect. Someone out there likes movies you don't or dislikes something you love. Your opinion is justified but do not pass it off as consensus or fact while talking down to others, because IF ANYTHING, if there is any consensus than it would have to be based on reviews and commercial success and not your opinion alone.

I understand, but those types of responses are to be expected in a thread like this; some people are stubborn. There's usually someone like that, I feel getting into arguments with people who might be trolling is a bit pointless. Sure, it probably gets tiring after a while. I understand your point.
