This is going to sound ridiculous but (if that's him) this just goes to show that we need to love a bit more. Just looking at the kid he seems like he might have been bullied or something. I wonder if he was in that school and something just made him snap. Complete speculation but hey, you never know.

As the mod said this is no time for internet witch hunts. Let's keep the topic focused on the event and how we can help these families during this tragedy.

I'm not a mod. I just think people shouldn't post Facebook links.

EDIT: It could be the guy, but just to be on the safe side.

Worse than Columbine. :(

We, as a country, are seriously fucked up. We need to take a step back and seriously get our priorities straight.

Just.fucking.awful. I don't even know what to think right now.

I'm not a journalist, but I did go to school for it, and I'm preeeeeeeetty sure that interviewing small children involved in a tragedy like this is a no-no.

But then, I did skip Journalism Ethics class 90% of the time, maybe they did too?

As a father I can't imagine the horror of this.

It's up to the school/guardians to not let their kids be interviewed.

Race for a face is weird. Here is a picture of a person, you don't know him or anything, but as you can see he has eyeballs and a nose. Wtf are we looking for devil horns or something?

As if I didn't hate the world enough already, I imagine how the media will operate over the next week combined with Internet detectives who don't know the meaning of "confirmed" will make me even more enraged.

No one likes to hear it, but it's going to take time before we get solid confirmation of any of the details of what happened. Rushing to report rumors and hearsay and suspects is irresponsible and unethical. That goes for both news reporters and people on the Internet.

I'm not sure I understand why people have a problem with the assailant's name being listed?

???

It's standard procedure for all criminals above the age of 18 to have their names run as soon as they're known. It's the victims who's names are witheld.

Lanza murdered a parent in NJ, then went to Newtown murdered his mom then went to the school.

jesus christ man.

when in a conversation about why bullet proof vests would be on sale to your average American, what relevance or grounding in reality does the suggestion that "high profile" people wear them have? and who are these "high profile" people? Let alone mentioning the 3rd world.

Obviously you can't fathom the thought that people abduct and ransom wealthy/high profile individuals in other countries. But please, keep believing that the world is a safe place.

Muh freedoms!

They need to develop some sort of system that allows guns to be stored at gun clubs for shooting practice, and in the idiotic event that there ever needs to be a militia to topple the government.

Aside from these centers (run by the NRA with some amount of state oversight at least) guns should just be outlawed, period. You can't hunt? Cry me a fucking river. It's a weapon of death and murder, find something better to do with your time. I'm sick of seeing innocent people murdered because people need to kill helpless animals with ballistic weapons.

The least you can do is implement a National set of Gun Laws and Background Checks like everyone else... Would that be such a bad thing?

They're now saying that the mother worked at the school and was dead. Reports of a body at his or his parents home are now saying they were false. However, who knows.

I got one because two dudes with weapons tried to break into my home and I flashed them my gun to show what i got and they heard the clip going into the gun. You think that calling the police will do anything? It will, but they take 15-25 minutes to arrive. That window feels like forever, especially in terms with the situation
So yeah, civilians do need to carry guns to protect themselves from shitbags.

And if they had guns on them you wouldn't be here today.

Hmm, his mother was a teacher at the school? That would probably explain how he got in. They posted an email from 2010 where the principal explained the security measures with the buzzer system. Basically if they didn't know you, you had to explain your business and report to the office with ID. I'd imagine that if he was the son of a teacher there, the faculty and staff probably knew him, he might have even went there himself...so easy access.

I don't understand what it's going to take for America and the American people to change. This is more than just gun laws, but the simple fact that people can't even agree that an assault rifle ban for example is a good thing shows how messed up many people are in their heads. Just sitting here shaking my head. You're never going to change it seems.

And wow at the people linking to Facebook or pictures. Can't believe anyone would think it would be a good idea to post anything right now that might endanger the lives of people who simply share names with a monster like this.

Who gives a shit if its close to Christmas? This tragedy would be just as tragic no matter when it happened. People with your fucked up priorities.

Yeah, but it does feel even worse, knowing a decent amount of the kids left the house looking forward to what they would get for Christmas, the break, having fun with family and so on.

Not only that, but EVERY Christmas, for the families involved that celebrate it, will most likely end up being reminded of this.

For the second time, WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT OTHER FUCKING COUNTRIES.

We're talking about why an AVERAGE AMERICAN would buy a bullet proof vest or why they'd be on sale to your average American. Can you not absorb that context? Is my english not clear enough?

The least you can do is implement a National set of Gun Laws and Background Checks like everyone else... Would that be such a bad thing?

agreed. national organization and cooperation is needed, at minimum. get rid of the loopholes discussed previously, like Gun Shows.

people are saying it could be someone else who share the same name. only the name has been confirmed by the media, not his face. we dont give a shit about his privacy, were concerned an internet witchhunt is gonna go after the wrong dude.

if thats the same dude, then by all means.

Another trench coat-wearing sociopath I bet. Makes me wonder what makes a kid grow up to become so fucked in the head. Bullying? Shitty environment? Bad parenting? It doesn't make sense.

"Jonathan Russell Look like you're about to buy an Ale, but then paint a picture of it... very mixed... all good, though. Kinda like if Solid Snake was wearing a Neo trenchcoat. This can only turn out awesome."

Comment on the Facebook pic getting shared around

They need to stop putting names and pictures of the people who do this into the public. Its just making more crazy people think they can get famous doing it.

Disgusting and tragic. Gun control and a proper healthcare system would do this shitty country wonders. There was something seriously wrong with this killer's mind.

I'm talking about Americans in other countries or their own. Is that hard to understand?

I have a friend who routinely works in South America..he wears a bullet proof vest almost ALL the time when down there.

Just saying: some people have legitimate uses for them.

No need to act like a prick.

It's not him guys. Stand down
