Man of Steel - Official Trailer #2

Whats your basis for this?

Sucker Punch.

For 300, Watchmen and the likes were based on established comics where he literally copied every panel as a storyboard - so his work was cut out for him.

At least we know the fights will be fucking amazing. Snyder actually has great skill in this regard:

Looking forward to a full beatdown like that with flying.

The action is slick but doesn't work for Watchmen's style. However, would totally work for a superman film. So not worried.

Agreed on that. The fights were slick, but Watchmen needed to be more grounded in those fights. The over the top nature is perfect for two super powered Kryptonians fighting though.

train scene? the dragon scene was well done too. didn't really like the trenches though and I'm not sure why. maybe it was the pacing or the fact that it tried too hard to focus on everyone and lost sight of actually being good and focused.
You didn't like the trenches? That's the scene that blew me away. Just stunning visually.

The samurai scene is also gorgeous and with great song choice.

I think Snyder would have his hand forced in that regard, the film needed to be mass marketable and as cerebrally stimulating as the material is; having ole' blue-cock pontificating the miracles of the universe in the trailer wouldn't have attracted the dudebros. I think he did well not to embarrass himself but I agree some of the fight scenes were a little over the top. I thought it worked with Veidt though, the guy is meant to be the peak of human conditioning and can throw people around like rag dolls.

Well, Emily Browning in the tiny outfit doesn't hurt either.
Snyder does know how to make good looking action.

Sucker Punch was god awful, but taken individually as shorts of some sort the set-pieces in there are pretty awesome. The man knows action.

Sucker Punch is a good flick if you just kick back and not be so critical about it. A fun late night watch on cable.

I love Watchmen, one of the best comic book movies I've seen, Snyder knows how to direct and tell a good story.

Yeah, I've always love the Watchmen movie too. The directors cut makes it even better too. Honestly it's one of my favorite super hero movies. It's one of those films that the more I see it the more I like it, strangely. Even my gf likes it now that she's seen it a few times with me. The first time I watched it with her she was working at Wal Mart at the time. A few days later she took her smiley face badge and put a splotch of red nail polish on it, lol. She was surprised at how many customers knew it was a Watchmen reference.

Very compelling movie.

300 fight scen
Still among my favourite fight scenes including the opening fight from watchmen so brutal and satisfying.
I have faith in snyder that he will deliver a good action superman film.
Loved 300 watchmen and dawn of the dead which for me is best zombie movie.
But hated ghaul of the guardians and suckerpunch both were very boring.i love bad but fun movies but cant stomach boring ones

You give Nolan more power than he actually has.

I just mean that after all the vitriol that he and especially Pfister spat at 3D, I would never have thought I'd see a trailer that said "Syncopy" at the beginning in stereo.

Nolan also doesn't like digital, doesn't mean Snyder is shooting MoS on film.

Unless they have some next-gen After Effects film filters going on, you can tell from the grain structure in the trailer that it wasn't shot digitally.

Lol, that looked hella awful.
Also don't give your character heels, if you're not even gonna try to hide that fact that she doesn't have them during the action scenes.
With all that cg you'd think they'd find a way around that.

The thing about Snyder's action scenes is that they're shot and framed in a way that you can actually tell what's going on. Assuming he keeps the same style for MoS we're in for some pretty epic eyecandy at the very least.

Yes, yes it does. Always loved it used in the Pearl Harbor teaser since there's not as much V.O as the theatrical one relying mostly on the music:

Man I was obsessed with the track when that teaser debuted and I hadn't seen The Thin Red Line so I didn't know where it originated from and thought it was an original track for Pearl Harbor so I ended up downloading countless versions of "Pearl Harbor Trailer Music" from Napster at the time. It wasn't until a couple of years later when I found out where the track came from when my dad was watching Thin Red Line with the surround sound going full blast while I was upstairs and hearing the village scene so I ran downstairs to finally figure out where it came from!

So uh..back to Man of Steel...I guess those leaked toy commercials may of leaked more of the story than originally thought?

Have you heard the LIVE recording? It's flawless.

It's from 2000. On the album The Wings Of A Film.

Shame there's no video.

If I ever hear this live and performed by Hans I can die happy.

Great now I feel like watching The Watchmen tonight.

This was my favorite scene from the directors cut.

Hollis Mason's death.

This scene proves Snyder's directorial abilities. Pretty much any other director would play it up for sorrow, or make it like a horror film, rather than heroic.By having Hollis fight back, the audience experiences a sense of hope and nostalgia for the old hero. At this point, we WANT him to win and relive the days of his youth. The symbol of friends "shattered" and the music cutting off feels like a cruel joke to a person who deserved better- and the camera itself cannot show his final wounds .

Pretty succinct explanation of how Snyder doesn't stoop to overly manipulative scenes

Fantastic sequence. This and the opening credits made Watchmen one of my favorite comic book movies ever. Screw the haters.

Watchmen was a good movie, that shouldve been nothing short of brilliant/ game-changing given the source material.

The movie had some very nice scenes (Doc manhattan, opening titles, rorschach taking out the guy in prison, older night owl raided by gang) but Snyder didn't get the tone quite right in my opinion.

The action should've been more grounded in reality, and more wonkier and awkward than anything Nolan has done. Why? because the whole point was these are second-rate "rejected" heroes that look stupid when dressed up in costumes - not slick action heroes executing "matrix-like" choreographed moves.

The acting performances also felt very stiff and unnatural. With the exception of Billy Crudup who nailed doc manhattan's detachment - everyone else seemed miscast. Yes, even Rorschach was a bit overdone by Jackie Earle Haley.

I also feel watchmen didn't touch the dramatic beats as well as it could've in the hands of a director who can get great performances out of their actors. I genuinely believe someone like Aronofsky or even Nolan would've gotten more juice out of the excellent source material.

I really love the idea for Singer's proposed sequel. If I remember correctly, when Brainiac takes over the kid, Superman has to kill the kid. That's awesome, could be powerful stuff. Plus getting to see a kryptonian face off from the guy that directed the air plane sequence in returns would've been a dream. Makes that whole first movie seem like setup, oh well, this new one looks neat.

Read it earlier this morning. I liked it too.

GAF likes to shit on Zimmer, because he is popular and gets a lot of recognition, but the man truly deserves it.

Also, His recent works like Sherlock Holmes 2009 (forgettable film, amazing OST) and Inception prove he still pretty much got it.

TDKR was him on sleep mode, though.

i think his tdk score is unfairly maligned. the bane tracks are all fucking awesome.

Time and Journey to the Line = Zimmer in God mode!!

I think we can definitely call Zimmer the most influential hollywood composer, at the moment.

90% trailers and OSTs in the past few years are either trying to take Dark Knight - like cues or throw in some Inception BRRRRRRR horns.

I don't think Inception horns are Zimmers though?

Correct me if Im wrong.

Well it was part of the Soundtrack, and having the horns is most likely Zimmer's artistic decision for setting the tone and feel of the movie's soundtrack - rather than some trailer music creator.

Wasn't the main musical "BRRR BBBBRRRR" at the opening of the OST a slowed version of the french song used for the kicks, or something?

Zimmer had a fantastic score for Pirates 3, even if the movie was shit.

Absolutely hate the movie, but the mermaids scene OST for the 4th pirates film is awesome. Oddly, has a danny elfman flavor to it and Im not a big elfman fan.
