They didn't mesh well with what the scores ended up meaning.

That is precisely why. That and we sort of got tired of them. And they led to real hassles when we wanted to have, like, Alex or someone who wasn't in that initial batch of art review a game. The option was to redo all the art and delay the problem until the next time we bring someone new into the fold or deal with it once and for all.

Are they going to update the old site with the latest content from the last few days or is this now sort of a "wait a few days/weeks till the new site officially releases" thing?

The live site is still the live site until the new one is ready to go live. The new site in beta is using all placeholder data that will be gone when it goes live.

Oh, I guess I assumed the live/original site was frozen since it mostly hasn't been updated since monday, aside from a few videos that Alex posted. From people's screencaps it looks like the new site has new reviews and news articles that the live/original site hasn't posted yet.

They're probably just preoccupied with the beta site launch and will post them in time.

Yeah the stuff on the beta site is either old articles/videos or fake ones.

some stuff found.

the reset password stuff has some interface issues with not showing the button (unless the button is no longer needed) and it happens on IE and FF

also i'm getting this weird redirecting bug on IE where if you click a review article it loads, finishes, then loads again adding a "#" in the url (the reviews controller specifically so you will now see /#reviews/<whatever review article>), which causes the page to redirect to the main page. FF and Chrome has been fine and since it doesn't add the "#".

Their new site is still lacking in essentials, like every redesign before this one has: Videos aren't sorted and tagged to reasonable categories, the overview shows neither date nor length of the videos, there's no option to only show GB original content.

In addition, going through paginated sites is still very annoying (due to the AJAX driven nature as well as the inability to quickly jump in content either through entering a date range or page number). This is especially bothersome on their podcast as well as video pages.

Their video-search engine still offers an absolutely horrible user experiences, often barely useful and hinders the discovery of content.
I really like the look of the site, but you're absolutely right regarding the usability essentials. Maybe it's a fundamental problem with what type of data they decided to store when building GB v1.0? Now there's too much content (and not enough time) to go back and update everything?

If so, what they really need to do is, either themselves or get the mods to do it, identify the most dedicated wiki editors and give them elevated privileges (call them 'Curators' or some shit), who can then go through all that old content and properly tag things, sort them into categories etc.

Oh, and AJAX pagination needs to go. Fucks with your back button and means you can't deep link to stuff.

Post it on the forums. Dave and Alexis don't read GAF afaik.

Let the games begin.

I feel like the logo in the upper left doesn't work with the new design.

So, how are we handling GOTY podcasts? One big thread for 'em and update it daily?

Well, nothing else will really be going on at the site during that time, so why not just keep everything in here? The "stories" will just be the finalized version of what is covered in the podcasts. The only thing that would be different are personal top tens, presuming things go as they have in years past.

I would only think we needed a new thread if we were to end this one, then that one once it's all over, and start a new GB thread in 2013 (and repeat the process in the future).

the GOTY podcasts + videos will be spoiler filled, it would be nice to have a GOTY thread where the same level of discussion between games can be had like they do without tagging for spoilers.

Also I expect them to do the whole famicon marathon sometime next week.

Pretty sure Jeff will forgive us for deeplinking to 60 seconds of him rapping over an Eminem beat.

You took something from a member's side of a web site and put it out there for those who don't pay. Though it is easy to do and probably no big deal, not exactly cool without permission.

Yeah, if this was a podcast I'd agree with you, but it's the equivalent of people linking to that gobble.mp3 thing you hear when you sign up for a subscription.
