Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

and it just let you ask why in hell Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner is not on the PSN store? and why Bamco don't throw a Digimon game at us?

Because the deal Atlus USA signed with SCE didn't include digital rights? Is that game up on PSN in Japan?

As for Digimon, well we know there's new games. Just not in English ...

Oh my god, gravity rush is so fun. I love just flopping around town to find hidden gems.

The challenges are pretty hard though...

Was the PC wifi connection thing PS+ only? Godsend if you make and post tons of screenshots. Cloud save is awesome too. But yeah, I'd probably wait until there is a game I dont own yet on PS+.

Some challenges arent possible until you level up in the game. Progress in the story and go back later :) Way easier.

Aww.. so painful when that happens :( Sony should have put a more clear "WARNING" message when deleting a game :/

Yup there's a lot of little things that the Vita doesn't tell you about. I had to ask my friend just to find out how to delete stuff which seems embarrassing but how the hell was I supposed to know holding the touchscreen for a few seconds brought up the options? My instinct was to do the PS3 method and hit Triangle on the bubbles, which I'm pretty sure doesn't do anything strangely enough.

Yeah, same goes for the strange impulse to hide everything from the user. I already used it 3 times, but I still had to search for the place to change automatic uploads to the cloud every damn time. A few Gaffers apparently had the same issue, lol. But how the hell are you supposed to know that its hidden in the (i) icons >_<

You don't own any other touchscreen device I assume? Because that is how it works on all of them and it seems like an accepted feature at this point.

That's a shame, because I like doing challenges as I go so they don't pile up at the end.

I hope I can't screw myself over by upgrading my gravity gauge and then I won't have enough gems to upgrade the abilities I need to complete the challenges and get more gems to upgrade with...

Yeah that's something I just found out about today due to someone mentioning it earlier in the thread lol. I was wondering why nothing was auto uploading all this time despite me turning it on.

Nope. I had an original DS but it wasn't advanced enough to have storage really. I've never had a smartphone or tablet.

Some of them are still challenging depending on how used you get to some of the mechanics. I've got every ability leveled up to max and I still have a hard time with the sliding challenges. I only have about 3 challenges left to gold medal and 2 of them are sliding and the third is one where you have to stasis throw objects into a field. The gold score is waaaay too high and I haven't gotten any closer to it than 2000 points so far (gold is 6k, silver 4k and so on).

By the end of the game I had about 30000-40000 gems spare, and that's with everything maxed out.

Just ignore some of the less useful powers and you should have more than enough for all challenges

The one with a big square field in front of you with crates on either side, and vases and the like near trees? In the 4th area? Last challenge i did. What I never realised until then was that if you hold Circle, the stasis field will expand and let you hold 5 or so items at once. Once I figured that out it was easy. You can even get the Water towers on the roofs for 500 points each I believe

I think it does, doesn't it. Warning all content will be deleted?

IMO, it seems common sense to back a game up (unless you have auto cloud save uploads) before you delete it to make room on your card. :)

You can't screw yourself over. There's no shortage of gems.

And you'll learn pretty fast that getting gold on challenges is impossible without upgraded powers.

*mind blown*. That should definitely make it easier. As it stands I could only pick up 2 at a time and I was wondering if my positioning was off since I have it leveled up all the way.

This took me forever to learn... I didn't understand why I would get only a few objects even though leveling the power said "increase the # of objects you can pull in" or whatever. Without it, there's no way to complete some challenges (there's maybe one in the DLC that involves moving citizens to a safe zone?).

I dont think its that obvious tbh, especially since savegames are single files on PS3. Its also quite a bit faster for me to redownload a game than restoring it. "All content (including savegames)" would have probably been sufficient, though.

So, what do I do once the joysticks give out? I've had my Vita since the early US launch (Feb. 15th) and already both analog sticks are losing resistance. Not to mention that the rubber is quickly losing its texture.

You could try one of those stick addons. Its like a small stick on top to change the form factor, looked at those a while ago on Amazon.

I love the world and every thread is a happy place full of sunshine. :)

Yeah, I saw your valiant efforts, but for some people, they just don't want to even acknowledge that theirs might not be the only thought that matters. Stay in our home thread mate, the rest of the world is ugly! The only issue we have in this thread is scrolling down and seeing totobeni has posted, then gambling on the 60/40 that he said something nice.

Yeah it was annoying me throughout the entire game on some challenges. I ended up figuring it out on the very last thing I did in the game. It wouldn't have been useful to know earlier!

Yeah that moving people took a few tries since I never knew I could hold circle. I can only imagine how easy it would be to do now...

ooh thanks. That'll be useful to me since I'm just starting.

Are the dlc worth getting? And are they better to play during the game or after?

It's not obvious at all; I wouldn't have known if it weren't for this thread. There's a lot about the Vita's OS that's pretty inexcusable.

The DLC's give you a costume, 2 story missions, and 2 challenges each I believe. For about £3. Not sure how much it is elsewhere. I personally liked them, but I quite liked the game so I wanted more of it so it was worth it for me. Thing is I probably wouldn't have bought them, but I got the first (Maid set) free for pre-ordering. After giving it a shot I decided to get the rest. Did you buy the game or get it via PS+?

As for when, if you do get them, do them as they are available. When i was playing the game, I never knew which challenges were DLC or not since they are integrated quite normally. Like the rest of the challenges, you'll probably need to wait till you upgrade your abilities before you can Gold them.

Well thanks to Shahed's tip I just wrapped up my last challenges and got my Gravity Rush platinum! Must have been my new-found inspiration because I did the last 2 sliding challenges I needed right after the stasis one on the first try.

I agree entirely. I bought them before I ever started the game because 3 outfits, 6 story missions, and 6 challenges (with 24 trophies) seemed worthwhile for $12 ($3.99 each).

I thought they fit really well in the story too, during a normal playthrough. I don't know if I'd have liked them as much if I had bought them post game and went back to do those.

Nice! Gravity Rush was my first Vita platinum. I always thought challenges that involved the Statis field were the most annoying, followed quickly by the annoying Gravity Slide (The one time the game feels gimmicky). In hindsight the former isn't so bad now that I know I could have held circle.

So now that you've finished it all, what do make of it? Would you get a sequel? And what game you playing next?

Yeah the difficulty of the missions were scaled to what they guessed your powers would be at the time. Even if the game if pretty easy anyway, doing all the DLC at the end wouldn't have fit in right since you would just breeze through. And I actually liked those story missions, although Military wasn't as good as the other's

See that is the thing. People talk about how they are worried about the life of the OLED screen, but the analogue sticks will die way before the OLED will.

I got it free with PS+, so no sets came with the game.

And wow, if the hold-o was what made the difference between success and failure on the pitching challenges, then maybe this is doable! I was trying to do the slide challenge earlier but I don't think I have the slide ability unlocked. I was very confused.

You could play nothing but RPGs and visual novels. Then you'll only have to worry about your O or X button getting insanely squeaky.

if slide is listed in the upgrade menu, you have it.
touch your thumbs to the bottom right/bottom left corners of the screen and hold -- kat will start sliding... once sliding, if you pick one thumb up, you'll start to drift.
you can do it anywhere on any surface as long as you have gravity meter.

Or fighters!

Well it's your call. Usually I never get DLC unless I really like the game, but I find I'm more receptive to buying DLC if I got the full game free via PS+.

While I personally found the DLC for Gravity Rush worth it, it is in the end nothing major. While DLC for some games are important in my view like Borderlands, RDR, Valkyria Chronicles and other's, you wouldn't be missing out on a great deal by not getting these. All depends on how much you like the game

Gravity Rush finished, really good game despite my control issues and apparently slightly busted R button now. I hope they get to make a sequel.

ive read that the shoulder buttons sticking and sruff, can be resolved by tightening or loosening a screw on the back. maybe this can help? Youtube is your friend with this.

That stasis challenge was the only hard one for me as the leveled up ability really made the others easy for me even though I didn't know about the holding circle trick. The sliding stuff was nightmares for me because I really don't like motion stuff in games but thankfully it wasn't too terrible with a maxed out ability.

I really liked the game and I'm hoping they make a sequel. I'll definitely buy it instead of waiting for it to go free on PS+ like I did with this one. I hope they include more stuff to do in the free roam parts of the game because all there really was was flying around and finding gems, which was nice in its own way but more diversity would be good. Fine tune the controls any way they can too.

Hopefully virtue's last reward gets here monday so I can play that next.

While I did like the world, I agree they need more stuff to do in them apart from catching gems. While that was fun, as were some of the challenges, I can imagine the game world being a lot more fleshed out in terms of content. If they can do that, fine tune the controls, and add more depth to the combat, then we could have a really good game on our hands for the sequel.

Did you get around to playing 999, or did you watch it on Youtube? Either way as long as you got the True End in some way that's the main thing. The puzzles are better in VLR, as is the way you go different routes so there's no need to repeat sections of the game in order to pick a different option. Bear in mind though it has a lot more dialogue and text to go through compared to 999.

Also remember that even if there are puzzle's, the main draw is really in the story, so if the puzzles aren't to your liking, you should be perfectly okay to just use a spoiler free walkthrough if you want to get out of rooms quicker. If you liked the story of the first game, then this game works just fine

Buy the Gravity Rush DLC

And those videos pretty much so how the gravity sliding was too bad.

I youtubed 999 a month or two ago and saw everything. Kind of wish the true ending wasn't the..well, true ending because it spiraled into stupid land whereas everything before it was pretty good and contained. But regardless of that I'm up to speed on what happened I think. If I did forget anything it'll probably come back to me when there's some reference in this game.

Buy the Gravity Rush DLC

I will some day when they go on sale probably. $12 for DLC that's not some big, famous DLC like Minerva's Den or Missing Link is too much for me.

See that is the thing. People talk about how they are worried about the life of the OLED screen, but the analogue sticks will die way before the OLED will.
Bullshit, I had to replace mine after 8 month due to image retention. Plus when I got mine back I compared the new one with my friends and mine was significantly brighter. Read up on the technology.

Wash your hands after you eat. If you're touching the vita after you eat without washing your hands, the oils will break the rubber down.

It was mostly because the team is like 15 people and they cut the development time when they shifted the project from PS3 to Vita, but now that they got the engine and core gameplay set,I have no doubt that Toyama can make the sequel should be better with more more variety.

I think the team and Toyama will go for a sequel unless of course they are working on a new Siren(lol)

To be fair - 8months in, new LCDs look significantly brighter then old units too.

Makes sense. I'm kind of surprised, though to be honest.

So what is the December PS+ stuff? I haven't been keeping up and my Vita is dead. I'm also too damn lazy to go get the charger for it lol

e: In the US

This. Like seriously 999 was so edgy and wonderful but the true ending ruined a lot of the mystery for me. Still a great game/visual novel, but the true ending soured the experience a bit as it became more and more ridiculous.
How's VLR? I feel my girlfriend maybe buying it for me for Xmas and I wannna knooow

I didn't notice on mine. Oled burn-in is a reality rather members on gaf believes it or not. I wonder why did Sony keep static GUI after studied the technology ?

Less static than some. The bubbles and default wallpapers are constantly moving. I've had multiple OLED devices since 2009 (over three years now) and have never had any burn-in problems. I'm not pretending image burn-in doesn't exist, but they also aren't a problem that everybody, or the majority will see the effects of. I own devices with OLED, SUPER AMOLED, SUPER AMOLED+ (the Vita's screen type), IPS, and regular LCD, and I am ecstatic that Sony chose OLED because for me and for media you can't beat it. It may not have the most accurate colors, but this isn't a photo-editing tool. It's for gaming and video, and it's brilliant for that.

I know I have only had my Vita a short while, but made a post on Gamestyle about how it has affected me and my attitude towards gaming this year:

http://gamestyle.com/blog/why-the-playstation-vita-is-the-best-thing-to-happen-to-me-this-year/

Nice job!

I agree with a lot of your sentiment. Totally hits home and definitely looking forward to Tuesday (expected US release) for Sonic All Stars Transformed.

I also read your COD Declassified review, I do agree with some of your points, but others I dont. I found the multiplayer hooked me in a Goldeneye esque way, I play it everyday - I generally dislike COD and FPSgames. The campaigns (ops) are bite sized enough and I enjoy replaying them, as theyre intense and frantic. The graphics also are impressive to me, the lighting in particular.

id give it a solid 7.75/8 of 10

Those Oleds are the same technology but with different sub-pixel arrangements. What about the browser? Since you had no issues with oleds how should I handle the browser and static guis like life bars?

Tried to update to 2.01 so I could update my trophies...nothing is going on though. :( Screen is just blue then the screen turns off and nothing is happening. What should I do?

I know they're all OLED, I was just giving you my experience with varying devices. And I didn't say the entire UI was moving, just that it did more than most UIs do. What should you do? Just use it. I just use all of my devices and haven't had an issue in over three years since my first OLED device (a Zune HD). Granted, burn-in is a real problem, and again, I am not pretending it doesn't exist. But LCD has it's fair share of problems that I feel are worse than OLED including burn-in (yes, LCD has image retention problems too), ghosting, input lag, poor black levels, and, for better or worse, more muted colors.

I wish sony remodels it with a lcd.
