That's pretty sickening to be honest. Is that real?

While not in the newspaper industry I am in the printing industry and more than likely that ad space was sold and placed well before the story even happened. It moves so fast now when they are trying to compete with the 400 live TV stations that I can see how this happened.

Would have been nice if someone had noticed before they printed them or even during the press run for sure though.

i find that weird. the ad is not more or less tasteless now. or random familyguy/american dad episodes that were pulled this week.

if the thing is of bad taste, it is of bad taste, no matter what happened in the world, right?

Obviously it is of bad taste to have it there.

Why does it say "ARs in stock" then

And boy those fake messages get longer and more annoying every time. At least those dog ones were funny and short.

My assumption is that it has a limiter in it, so while the gun is an AR you can't legally use it in that fashion.

I can understand the outcry, but I don't think it was really the paper's fault. They most likely plan ad space long before stories run and the two never really meet until it hits print.

As an aside note, I was at a major outdoor/hunting store this weekend and they had blocked off a huge section for gun registration and background checks. I am sure (hopeful) that is was mainly because of the holidays, but I couldn't help but wonder if it was a reaction to increased sales caused by the school incident.

Isn't selling automatic rifles illegal in US?
Why does it say "ARs in stock" then
.
Because "AR" means "assault rifle", not "automatic rifle".

the media has lead you to believe that AR either means Automatic Rifle, or Assault Rifle.
It's actually the prefix of the model number.... AR-10, AR-15, etc..... it derives from the companies name, "ArmaLite".

It's like calling all the bmw m3, m5 etc... M's, they call the guns AR's.

AR is the common term for AR15, which is commonly sold in semi-automatic. It would be like an ad saying "AKs in stock!" The AR in AR15 did indeed mean Assault Rifle (which would imply select fire), but the civilian models are not automatic.

I thought the AR in AR15 meant Armalite.
