Assassins Creed 3 PC performance thread

I haven't decided if I want the PC version or the PS3 version. What do you guys think:

PC Specs:

Intell i5 2500k Quad Core 3.3GHz
16GB RAM
EVGA GeForce GTX570 HD Superclocked

I've played the AC series on my PS3 since the beginning, but with my new PC, I want to start playing more on it. I currently have a bunch of games that look and run great (ie, The Witcher 2, which I run at Ultra settings).

I'm really tempted by AC3 PC though.

Your PC is more than capable of maxing out the game, not at 60fps though.

How is that not even moderately oced. You can 4ghz on on stock cooling.

Hey guys and gals. How does the GTX 660 TI handle this game @ 1050p res? (3570k @ 4.4, 16gb ddr3 1600, Win7 Ult)

Good to know, thanks! I don't particularly care if the game is maxed out @60fps. As long as it runs it well.

I can play the Witcher 2 on Ultra, but I think it runs at it's best on just high, with some AA turned on. I haven't played it enough and tweaked the settings. I'll probably grab this one on PC eventually. I cleaned up on Black Friday, but forgot about this one, so I have plenty to play to keep me busy in the mean time.

I'm not sure about overclocking my PC, LCGeek. To be honest, this is the first PC I've built in years, and my first "real" gaming PC. Basically, a buddy of mine who's big into PC stuff told me what parts to buy, and I bought them and built it. I'm really pleased with it so far. I haven't really dove too much into it's specs, though and what it's capable of/not capable of.

I overclocked my cpu just because of this game. From 3.1 to 4.2. Got a decent frame boost. It drops below 60 in fewer spots but doesn't run like Revelations did, which was perfect 60.

Can someone please help me. This is how my game looks.
i have two 7950's.

AC3_SP_2012_12_09_21_52_05_90.png

Some help please?

Also how come i get 30fps in boston when i have two 7950's for god sake.

Don't use it.

*THE* best way to lock to 30 fps is as follows...

Use the half refresh rate option under v-sync available in nvidia inspector. Do NOT use the FPS limiter.

THEN, and this is important, use MSI Afterburner to limit that specific EXE to 30 fps as well. This mix of settings produces a very smooth, consistent 30 fps 95% of the time.

DXTory and various other solutions (including the limiter in inspector) result in a lot of microstutter when limiting to 30.

Since the thread has been bumped I should say that this has worked beautifully for both my laptop (570M) & desktop PC (670 FTW). I'd rather take rock solid 30FPS then the 40-50 roller coaster.

rumors of the next patch around christmas, they just need to get that FPS issue sorted as a priority

also, their forums are always funny. some guys response to someone saying they too were experiencing fps drops

So I have a GTX 660 ti and up until the Boston city the game ran flawlessly, but Boston seems to be hammering the FPS. From skimming this thread it seems a lot of people have FPS issues in Boston, is there a fix out? Also is there any way I can check if my copy of the game has been patched (if there is a patch out)? I got it free with the GPU so it's from Ubi's online store thing.

Specs are Core 2 Quad at 2.4 Ghz, 4 GB DDR2, and the GTX 660 ti

Boston is a killer on performance regardless of system, and looking at your specs I'd wager your CPU might be bottlenecking it a bit.

The Christmas patch is out... I guess? I don't know how to check whether I have it or not; there's no version number anywhere in the game or in the files.

On the Uplay forums they're like, "No need to do anything PC users, you've got the patch already!" But I know for certain that Uplay hasn't downloaded any patches.

This is live when? Finally they fixed the goddamn double pistols glitch.

BTW i played this last night and the patch definitely wasn't live, beacues it did update Uplay, but not AC3 AND the double pistols bug was still there.

I had the same problem, have a single 7950. You Have anti aliasing on very high, you need to lower it to fix that problem. About the gpus you have, they wont help you. This game is very unoptimized in the cpu area, barely uses 2 cores in a quad core cpu, so the gpus wont help you. I too get 30 fps on my rig with 7950 and a 3570k. The gpu tops out at 40% load, so its not even straining itself. Its the cpu optimization thats the problem. Hopefully ubisoft adresses this, even if im doubtful.

thats a 1.03 console patch only i think

pc version shipped as 1.01 but included the fixes in the 1.01 + 1.02 console patch

so pc v 1.02 is still not here yet. it should hopefully inc the above + pc specific fixes

Does UPlay patch games like Steam? I left mine on overnight and I have no idea if it downloaded that or not. I'm not seeing a version number in the game's menu.

When you fire up the game it does a check everytime, so if it's not patched it will, but the patch is not up for PC users.

Gotcha, thanks.

Lowering the environmental detail from very high to high has made Boston playable enough for me to progress at least. Everything else still maxed. Decent looking game but it really should be performing much better for how it looks.

Hopefully the patch improves things.

God I hate the use of that fog during that one part of the day in boston. It looks like a bomb went off or a volcano erupted with all the debris/smoke/fog effects.

I just got my free nvidia code for this game, but my PC hasn't arrived yet. I'm guessing the game activates on uplay, right? Are there any download limits?

So I got the disk version for Christmas. I put the disk in my drive, and this comes up:

http://i.imgur.com/Wx5bX.png

I thought it might have been a faulty disk drive, but I inserted Black Ops 2 and the problem didn't occur. What the hell is causing this?

EDIT: Have I been sold 2 blank disks?

Well the important part should be the serial number/activation key that came with the game. Since you need to tie that to your uplay account and then you could just download the game.

looks like it - you cant activate a game with uplay until its installed so you're kinda screwed

return it and get a replacement, or better yet a refund. the pc version is kinda unplayable right now with some performance issues

That's what I've been trying to do, but I can't find where I enter they key in the software.

iNvid02 is probably right haha. uPlay isn't nearly as fully featured as say Steam or Origin. So you would have to somehow have the game installed on your computer already to prompt uPlay to ask you for the CD Key.

Also unplayable is an exaggeration. But yes the game is very poorly optimized and you probably won't be able to run it at 60 fps at all times unless you have an amazing CPU.

is there any way to turn in game AA off? when i use the very high and high option i get some sort of white flickering on the screen, most noticeable on dark places or where there's fog or water, ive tried everything but nothing works

So I just had a 800mb patch, and it was supposedly the patch notes from the eighteenth? (see above)

Anyone getting a performance increase?

checked the patch notes and it doesnt say anything about any performance fixes, just some sp and mp bug fixes.

god damn it, they havent even acknowledged the fps issues yet.

So uh, did they ever fix the SLI issues? Or is there a work around? Stupid me, I bought this on PC impulsively before checking about it having issues.

Yeah, this PC version is poo. The framerate problems in Boston on my GTX680 are annoying enough (especially if a better looking game like Sleeping Dogs runs flawless), but let me turn off the vaseline FXAA for gods sake. It is blurry and the textures are not very crisp.

The latest Nvidia beta drivers give a pretty big performance boost. I only tried in Boston, but my FPS has gone right up, fluctuates between 30-40FPS (previously was about 20-25). Climbing buildings it went up to 70FPS as long as i wasnt looking down lol.
Havent tried Homestead areas but they were generally less taxing than boston sos hould be a good boost there too.

The 313.95 betas aren't showing up for me on the nvidia site. I don't suppose someone has a link to the download page (Win7 x64)?

yes, you can.

call uplay.exe with the right command line and it will ask for the key and download everything from UbiSoft. I did it for AC3 and FC3.

check my post history.

update your drivers if you have a ATI card. Last drivers fix the problem.
