How about The Godfather, for starters? Each of the first two films alone is greater than the entire Nolan filmography combined.

The dual stories in II are the reason the movie is so great (and better than the first). Separating them only helps to weaken them (which is why the airings of Godfather in chronological order was always so stupid).

My film lecturer in college showed the version that was in chronological order and didn't understand why I protested.

Really a horrible way to see the first film, especially for the people who (somehow) had never seen it before.
