NRA's solution to Sandy Hook massacre: "armed guards" in every school

"If we are going to live in a society where we allow deadly weapons then we have to make sure that we give people deadly weapons in order to stop others with deadly weapons performing terrible acts with those deadly weapons. But be assued, the deadly weapons are not the problem"

Or they could have been shot anyways. I always question that argument, that if someone had a gun then it would have prevented the shooting. I don't have any experience with guns, but I wouldn't 100% expect any random person who was armed to be able to stop the shooter or even have the ability to do it. Granted, this was pretty extreme as there were children involved, but it's not so easy for some people to take a life even in a life or death situation.
 
So the NRA, basically an extension of the GOP at this point, people who want the government minimized and out of our lives, now want the government to place armed guards in each school. Sure, that makes sense. The "UN is coming to take us over" brigade must love this idea.
 
They've not thought through the risks either.

There's upwards of 125,000 schools in the USA. That's around a quarter-million armed guards needed, and chances are a handful of them will be homicidal nutters.

Then what, NRA? Then what?

This what it's all about, gun makers want to sell guns, that's all they want, that's is all they care about, it doesn't necessarily mean they're bad people, but it means we should probably don't turn to them when crafting our gun laws.

Campus police in high schools are nothing new. They are the ones assigned for all criminal stuff (drugs, skipping, etc) that happen during school time. I think nearly every high school has one assigned to them.


The NRA wants them in every elementary and middle school it seems. Utter stupidity, paying for that alone would be stupid. What we need are more strict screening for gun ownership.

Most of the time, police officers/security officers act as deterrents. You'd be surprised how much influence their sight can be on a would be criminal.

Could have prevented it...

Yeah that solves the issue Blame it on the media (not that you know, he had access to all of those weapons) and then say "Yeah lets put more weapons in schools, with armed guards and police officers" because you know that won't cause a biggest shoot out, if and when they decide to attack a school again.


I believe they have lost a LOT of influence with american people.

Influence on a normal criminal, on someone who wants to stay alive - maybe. But not on an insane killer who wants to commit suicide. The cop would be the first target of a serious killer, and dead before he can react.

Nooo what you do is have armed guard AND an undercover. So the killer kills the armed guard, sure, but the unarme.... wait.
 
Yeah the cop may aswell have a bubble-gun, hes the most obvious initial target and will probably get a shot to the back of the head before he can even flick the safety off. What a joke.
 
I'm for gun control, but there is no problem with these statements.


I mean, its already very common already. A lot of schools have armed guards already. Id say most high schools do in any decent sized population area.

This. I said it on the gaming side and I'll say it here...I hope that Wayne LaPierre rots in whatever hell he believes in. IMO he's an opportunistic bastard representing a fear mongering organization.
 
I'm for this. Hell, my kids elementary school already has a patrol officer on the grounds at certain hours; a sort of US Marshall type scenario for the schools would be just fine by me.

Better than arming the teachers anyway.
 
Why exactly are people against security guards at schools? Do you fucking rage when you walk into your bank and see the armed security guard? Or is it just because the NRA brought up the fact that society feels that a bank is deserving of more protection than a school.

That's implying that you'll have one cop, we're talking 10 armed commandos for every door and window a school has.

This is time I'm assuming a gun control debate isn't going to have the same impact after 20 kids were killed. The national attitude towards gun control has shifted dramatically.
 
Ironic. They don't see that by going so far to protect their freedoms, they're siphoning those of others. It's getting kind of ridiculous. I don't think that violence is never the answer, but it's certainly not a good answer very often.

My middle school had an armed guard but he was hired by the school and was properly vetted and trained. He was a pretty cool and chill guy. Used to be a cop and he really liked working with kids.

I don't advocate random ass NRA members coming into schools and daycares to do the job that a professional could do.

The answer isn't "More guns everywhere".

Nor is the answer "Ban all the scary things".

The answer is more complicated than either sentiment.

What do you guys think the costs would be for schools to have armed guards everywhere?

Who would fund this? The government? I thought everyone wanted the government to cut spending lol.

Schools would fund this? Then what, parents have to pay more or teachers would get fired and then increase class room size so then kids don't learn properly.

I'm not opposed to something like that. But I would prefer he remain generally out of sight unless the shit hit the fan.
 
I knew this is what they would suggest. When you make money selling guns, the only solution you can ever stomach is "more guns".
 
So why stop at schools? Kids are all over the place; shouldn't we put armed guards at Chuck E Cheese, the mall, playgrounds, grocery stores, hospitals.... When does it end?

I have yet to hear anyone saying that we should ban all guns. The president is not trying to take away your gunz, but we have to ban the easy access to assault weapons and high ammo clips.
