So I jumped on the sale after having let my account slip since about July. Any standout premium videos I should check out from the past 6 months or so?

The only really good stuff:

Breaking Brad Doom II
Random PC Game Blade Runner
Random PC Game Burn Cycle
Pokemon Snap & Friends
DCS P-51 Mustang

The Olympic Games Olympiad has some great moments but is just decent over the long length. Jar Time is still good if you're into that.

The good TNTs (if you're into that thing) are:

6/28 - Burnout Paradise
7/19 - Tony Hawk
7/26 - Shootmania
11/08 - Halo 4 (but not really good for the Halo)
11/15 - Black Ops 2

To be honest, there hasn't been a large amount of great premium content in the last few months. The TNT's where multiple games are being played at once are mostly poor due to lack of focus. Spookin' with Scoops isn't really ready for primetime yet, and the only ones of those possibly worth checking out are the latest three (System Shock 2, Friday the 13th, and Alien vs Predator). In my opinion, the earlier ones are unwatchable.

There's a fair amount of good stuff there, but spread out over six months, it has felt a bit sparse.

Also get caught up with the Vinny and Dave Blade Runner endurance run.

Actually looking back, there wasn't a ton of great stuff for subscribers the last 4 months if you aren't into TNT, Spookin, or Jar Time and none of those things are really that great.

Yeah I am sure it would be fun if they dive into the super sim racers but I guess watching someone do 50 laps of a track probably isnt the best video to watch even if its Vinny.

They don't need to do 50 laps.

Can't Vinny just borrow that G27 they had on the Farming Simulator QL? That would be a good way to test it out.

Was great to see Alex in the last mailbag video. It's true what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Well, hopes for this GOTY discussion are near bottom. Apart from Vinny having to leave halfway through the podcast, I don't know how much worse it can get :(

Thanks all, appreciate the recommendations. Will definitely be prioritizing the Random PC games that I had missed out on. Forgot about those somehow.

The Phantasmagoria video is my favourite. Brilliant, all the way through.

Great to see Alex back in that mailbag video. I really hope he doesn't take the negative comments he gets to heart. Some people are dicks.

Also, I can see why the staff are tired of this stuff being sent to them. Why is someone throwing down $100+ to send them ridiculous candy they're unlikely ever going to eat? Especially when they seem to just be getting it shipped straight from the store to them. Where's the joke? At least with the boxes-full-of-junk videos, they had some personality to them (albeit just as ill-conceived). I don't really buy the "dude spent a lot of money on that stuff, they should be more grateful/have more respect" argument, either. Praise people for sending expensive trash to you and at some point it turns into a competition to see who has the biggest wallet and worst judgement. Imagine how much more awesome it would have been for them to have gotten a small envelope instead, with a receipt inside for "Jeremy donated $100 to Child's Play (or whatever charity), in the name of Giant Bomb". Then we'd all be saying great job Jeremy with a higher level of sincerity. Not that it's up to me to tell people how to spend their money... I just think that would have been cooler, and might be a healthier habit to encourage with the GB community.

I'm not a giant fan of Alex's writing/podcast personality. He might be a stand up guy, I wouldn't know, but I'm constantly thinking "you don't say".

Question!

How many of you who really dislike Alex didn't follow the guys in the Gamespot days? I'm asking because while I can totally see why someone would dislike him, I just see him as a part of the group who has to be there, character flaws be damned.

So I'm wondering if it's just me.

Dunno if I've just grown up and he's grated on me over the years or if he's gotten worse. His attitude was funny when I was 14, now not so much.

I'd take pretty much any other old GS guy (or girl, Carrie!) over him now.

I'm with you 100%. It's become particularly obvious with the last few mailbags, which have been comprised of either a) random old shit taken from someone's back shelf / Goodwill or b) super ridiculous candy that no one wants. Like, it was novel the first time they had that giant gummy worm and stretched it as far as they could, but what the actual fuck are you going to do with a giant lollypop? At some point they have to either find a place for this crap they didn't want in the first place or throw it away. Either option at face value seems ungracious on their part, but what the hell else are they supposed to do with it?

Well, I didn't follow them back in the Gamespot days, but I have the same feeling. Even though I didn't always love hearing him on some of the E3 casts and stuff, I feel like he fits in with those guys in a way that few people do (comparing to guests / friends of the show, etc)

The video where the box was covered in serial killer-esque writing was pretty much the turning point for the mail bag. It used to be cool creations by the community, but now it's a game of who can out-asperger the last.

Also, jesus fuck at that Wii TV UI/touch input. How on earth was that signed off as shippable?

This is the new Brad is leaving GB isn't it?
Realizing his valued role to the GB community, Vinny decided it would be a good time to get his family a little Christmas bonus from the company. With a determined stride, Vinny walked down the hall and pushed his way into the office of the CBS corporate head. "I request a 5% raise, or there will be no Vincent Caravella on podcast episodes in the future," he declared. The suit squinted at the black shirted figure before him, making note of his burly arms and rugged facial hair. "Aren't you the chap that asked for that large budget a few months ago for some video game site?" In one swift movement, the executive reached over and pulled the switch on his desk (that seemed to almost appear out of nowhere), releasing a team of a highly trained martial arts masters. As Vinny rinsed the blood from his shirt at his kitchen sink that evening, he vowed he would have his revenge and get that raise next year.

Whenever I try to access the beta site since Dave said it was now open to recent members I get a redirect loop instead of 403, after trying for a bit I get a 403 error. Any ideas guys?

Starts in 7h20m from this post

less than two hours woowoo

hope its one of those streams from Jeffrey's bedroom, those are the rawest.

actually if it was Ryan and Jeffrey live from Jeffrey's bedroom that would be super cool, and I don't mean in a sex way

Alex talk? I have no strong opinions on Alex either way but lets be honest, Alex is no Rorie

Yet Alex is the one still working... Just let that sink in for awhile ::feelsbad.gif::

I'm sorta over Vinny if I'm being honest

I mean... you're entitled to your opinion and all... but how? On the podcasts he's never pushy or overly opinionated, he comes across as pretty chill and even handed. I can see being over the online Vinny lovefest but Vinny himself comes across as being about as inoffensive as a person possibly can be while still maintaining a personality and presence.

he has had such little presence lately that I've started to consider him outside the giant bomb dudes proper. In my mind now it's Jeff, Ryan, Brad, and Patrick and then you have Dave, Drew, Alexis, Vinny who occasionally pop up and it's cool when they do but they're not on the starting line up. Like he was sent back to the minors or something.

It should automatically be archived on twitch. Also Jeff tweeted that they'll be testing the beta site's chat at the same time if you want to watch it there.
