Well guys.. do you feel sad when you can't be with your partner at new year's eve?

As I told you once in this thread, my boyfriend and I live in not so distant cities (40mins from each other) BUT we can't see each other that much in vacation time (We met in College, I accdientally took an optional course and I saw him in there like in the 3rd class.. surprisingly I was not amazed but when things started to roll - In a "Why not" moment of myself - I was just taken by the storm, but perhaps that's another day's story ;) ) as we're both young and not productive :P so we depend on our parents money and transportation costs are certainly a thing. We've seen each other 2-3 days a week for 4 weeks now.

Not gonna lie, at first I was scared that things were going to cool down (and GayGaf knows I'm in fucking love) but thankfully those "little moments" have been great, and he - such a great boy - offered himself as voluntary at his church for the Christmas Children Group (Aw it was so sweet, he woke up every day asking for donations in the street -in money /or eggs!/- and then he took care of a group of children and they liked him so much, I was certainly in tears when he told me those stories, couldn't believe I had such a good man by my side); while it was hard for me losing contact even /more/ as he was busy with his charity, I was not only happy that my boy was such a nice person to others too, but I was somewhat glad he was "occupied" in other things so he wouldn't feel my abscense that much.. but was you expect I was completely alone the entire month, I was just here all day browsing GAF until he arrived to facebook to chat with him (I know you are asking where are your friends? Well, they are in the city I don't live in hahahaha) and then have a short call in the night (as he'd be tired).

Days before christmas, at shopping day (when he was by my side the whole day even hating shopping and walking a LOT, but it was one of those "meeting days".. and i was wonderful) I gifted him a webcam because I missed him (He didn't have one lol.. yet I couln't avoid shedding a tear when I gave it to him in our goodbye as I knew that was the last time I was going to see him in a long time).

We met at christmas morning (Both escaping our homes with lame excuses as in this country that day is absolutely family-driven and going out is a mortal sin hahaha) and gave hima lovely sweater (After much reclutance as he was against any gift) and later that day he gave me those Beats I jokingly said I wanted some day - totally surprise -. I died a little, then we parted to our homes, talked a bit on the phone later that day and at midnight, and then agreed to have a BBQ on thursday (tomorrow) as it's the last time we'll see each other this year.

All that cursi story comes to this... I was kinda missing him the whole month, even more at christmass night, it's incredible how a person can be so important to you, and I already get the feeling that New Year's eve will be nothing short of painful hahahaha you know, it's a very sentimental day, but well, I think I should be thankful to this 2012, it was such a wild ride. Phew.

No boyfriend* so New Year's and Valentine's are just any other day to me (eta: lol not trying to rain on your parade though Ahasverus. Glad someone has somebody to love)

Now Henchmen am sad :(

Aw don't worry pal, new year, new life :)

It's most important to be a full person first, and then give what you have the more, and hopefully it would be a beautiful piece of a beautiful person :)

So what is Gaygaf reading these days?

I've been on a sci-fi kick lately and have just finished reading Fall of Hyperion. I thought it was great. Although the intertwining stories of the first book are probably more innovative, I enjoyed Fall of Hyperion more - mainly because of how awesome Meina Gladstone is.

Re-reading The Wheel of Time so as to be ready for the last volume coming out in January. I won't be on time since I'm just going through the 8th one right now but I'll get there.

It's a lot more enjoyable now than it was when I first read it, probably because my grasp of the English language is a whole lot better, ha.

I'm going through the whole "Discworld" series right now. I think I'm near the end - I still have to read three or four books.

I read the first 4 or 5 and I greatly enjoyed them. Such a good writer! Was wondering what I should read next, guess I found it. Thanks.

I'm reading the first book in the Percy Jackson saga: The Lightning Thief

It's okay. Nothing to write home about. Just something to pass the time on the train.

I'm starting The City & The City by China Mieville over again after having started and not gotten very far a long time ago (bad habit).

I read Perdido Street Station by him and would rank it as one of my all time favourite books. Might give the city and the city a go after I finish the Hyperion cantos.

Finishing The Millenium saga by Stieg Larson, the first book was good but the second was really meh and I don't know if I'll keep going with the third one. Story is getting really stupid :s

Still have to finish A Dance With Dragons but I read the previous two books in about 2 weeks and I'm a bit burned out.

And I got Snuff by Terry Pratchett for xmas so I have plenty of reading to do these days :)

Since I got a good chunk of change to use on iTunes, I'm going through Richard Heinberg's works. I've read his opinion/research pieces, seen his great slideshows/lectures (many on YouTube), etc.. but have never read his books.

So I'm starting with "The Party's Over: Oil, War, and the Fate of Industrial Societies."

Pretty much what I expected. Well-researched, great bedtime reading.

Favorite characters?

Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg ftw

It's hard to say, because most characters in Discworld (both the main ones, the support cast and villains) are great. Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg are definitely near the top ;) I've just read "Going Postal" and "Making Money" and I really grown fond of Moist von Lipwig and Lord Vetinari.

Reading some fun fantasy stuff from Dave Gross who happens to be one of my best friends. It helps that I can call him to check characters motivations and and secrets. :)

Wait, aren't you the guy who won't sleep with anyone who was a penis smaller than 8 inches? Or is that DR2k?

I'm reading Cloud Atlas and just bought The Handmaid's Tale off of the Kindle Store, so I'll be starting that up when I finish Cloud Atlas. I'm really loving Cloud Atlas so far, which isn't surprising as the movie is The Greatest Film of the Year.

I read half of Perdido Street Station and would rank China Mieville as one of the most attractive authors. The guy's weirdly good looking.

That is high praise! The movie won't get to Sweden until sometime in February. I'm so very very hyped. I think I'll stay away from the book though until then.

Oh man, somebody else who likes Cloud Atlas? Am I dreaming?

The movie got mixed reviews, so you might not like it, but it's undeniably ambitious and that goes an incredibly long way when most movies are completely forgettable in my mind. I easily enjoyed The Dark Knight Rises more this year, but Cloud Atlas has stuck with me quite a bit more, and it's the only movie that I've ever rewatched in theaters. I hope you go and see it when it comes out!

I'm finally catching up with Lovecraft complete bibliography, I'm about half way through.

I think you sent that to me a long while ago but I had forgotten about it. It's great! Thanks.

Have you read the new saga by the guy who finished writing the books? It's call The Way of Kings and I think it has great potential.

I also read the first book of the Sword of Truth earlier this year (Wizard's First Rule, I believe) and while I did not exactly hate the book, I really did not like it. Has anyone read them? Does he get better or is it more of the same?

Because I'm sick of people with ridiculously high standards.

8 inches isn't a high standard at all. It's, like, the bare minimum of what a man should have down there. If I ever encountered a guy with anything less than that, I'd honestly recommend surgery - I might even offer to pay for it myself. No man deserves such a fate.

I really hope you're joking.

(and if you are, I'm sorry. My sarcasm detector is on the fritz due to my bad mood).

I got four novels for xmas and so far ive read 2.

Halo: The Thursday War - finished
Dead Space: Catalyst - finished
Dune - about to read
Game of Thrones - will read after Dune

Halo novel was subpar, Dead Space was decent (first Dead Space novel was a lot better).

Actually, a lot of people on GAF have loved Cloud Atlas although I haven't seen it myself.. been meaning to. Have you seen Django Unchained? Its easily the best movie I've seen all year, although I've only seen 3 movies that came out this year.
