Giantbomb GOTY 2012 Thread: Videos, Top 10's, and podcasts lots and lots of podcasts.

As someone who played a bit of ME3 multi a little over a month ago. They've been mixing it up and keeping it fun. The micro-transaction crap is retarded, but that doesn't mean the actual stuff is bad.

It was surprisingly good but it's ultimately a 3rd person shooter horde mode with far fewer options than a Gears of War, which also contains competitive multiplayer. On top of that, attempting to use the free-to-play microtransaction model for the multiplayer aspect of a $60 retail game is something I would hate to see become more common. Maybe it deserved a quick mention because it surprised some people, but best MP game of the year is going way too far in my mind when you consider how limited the offering is and the icky EA business shit that taints it.

Ahhhhhahahahahahahaha, holy fuuuuuck. Only just now watching the recaps. This is incredible. Oh my god. Ahahahahahahahaha.

I believe I'm becoming chemically dependent on having one of these to listen to every day at work. I'm afraid I'm going to start shaking, sweating and randomly shouting "SLEEPY DAAAAAWGS" next week.

That downloadable category was fucked up and since it was going away they should have made this category not have a award for one game but list all of these games as "winners".

Agreed. I wrote up the award in the text piece and tried to spread it around as much as possible. There are no losers in a feel-good category like that.

Props to Tricky for picking Slender as his Number 10. Amazing experience, especially for being made by one guy. Really looking forward to the sequel.

Tricky's list:

10. Slender
9. Asura's Wrath
8. Papo & Yo
7. Journey
6. Fez
5. Dishonored
4. Mark of the Ninja
3. ZombiU
2. XCom
1. Walking Dead

More conservative than I thought it would be. I think Jeff's list had more out-of-left-field choices.

Ok, I'll try and not be so abrasive this time, but I really don't get the love for Journey. Especially in the multiplayer category. I beat Journey with other people, and it was painfully dull. It's co-op Dear Esther with a mildly interesting art style. Multiplayer adds so little, and I fail to see how it's in any way innovative. Random, anonymous multiplayer with a single means of communication. Woohoo.

Right, I know it is personal taste but I've never heard so much garbage in a while regarding multi-player games.

Why include the award if the team aren't into mp games? Jeff was particularly annoying over Mass Effect 3 which does have a decent mp mode. On one hand championing the co-op (glorified horde mode) of Syndicate, and then moaning about ME3 was pure hypocrisy. Comparing it to Gears 3? eh? Then starting to talk waffle about the combat handling? I did cringe a bit.

And god Patrick....Journey, Journey, Journey... /hipster bs. Journey got him to play games with dirtbags? Nice assumption. Deciding on the quality and standing of people through their names on PSN. I worry more about people who use their real names as their online nickname!

/moan over:)

IDK, maybe people make a real big deal about being able to see gamertags in co-op games.

Someone who picks a name like NiggaHatah420 is surely somebody you'd usually choose to play with.

I thought exactly the same at the end. The type of names I saw are usually the people who ruin my games on CoD etc with mic spam and the like.

You know what I mean. Online you see a BUNCH of people with retarded names like that which would put you off. I got a few of them at the end of my Journey playthrough.

That skit was pretty good and very grounded since that could have really been jeff if he wasn't careful.

Also LOL @ asshole Patrick and him sticking Nights in there.

Agreed. I wrote up the award in the text piece and tried to spread it around as much as possible. There are no losers in a feel-good category like that.

Your disappointment was very telling when you had to do that.

Why does Patrick get hate for liking Journey, especially considering it was also on everyone else's (except Jeff's) top ten.

Some people in the GB threads are rather horrible and miserable it would seem; I don't always agree with a lot of GB and sometimes they can all talk what I would consider bollocks; but a good few people take to just insulting them every fucking week.

Its rather odd. And a bit sad.

I dunno, I see people playing the Hipster card in the past days, which is horrible in it's own way, plus it does not really fit Patrick. I guess it's just people being jerks.

just bought a copy a couple days ago (20 bucks, yay) time to fially get through that crazy game.

Ordered it just today as well. I've been interested in the game since it was released but was waiting for a price drop and just forgot about it, these GOTY awards reminded me that I still had to check this game out.

Holy crap, today's is killing me!

"I'm just afraid that, with three copies of samurai showdown there's not enough room for Jeff."
Plus Patrick stealing/moving stuff, Brad's calm voice, the lizzie macguire soundtrack, Nights, and just everything.
So stinking funny. : D

And Patrick having yet another different #1 pick! YES. I can't wait for the goty final discussion with everyone having picked different top spots. Although... it's still going to be XCOM, haha.

Journey was my guilty "have not played for no good reason" for the better part of the year, so I finally went and bought it on PSN today (On sale $10! Nice!) and I'm about to shut down the PC, turn off the lights, and play through it in one sitting.

I hate feeling like I'm missing something.

Awesome video recap today with the Jeff's out-of-control collection stuff. Really had me laughing hysterically. Liked everything so far, but today's was gold. Especially Sad Ryan Davis.

I also really liked Patrick's list. It had a good mix of AAA/Indie/obscure titles across a wide array of genres and platforms (also there's the part where my Top 10 shares 5-6 of those games).

How did you feel about the F2P mechanics? They looked insane to me and made me want to stop playing.

They were kind of insane when it first came out, but manageable. They later patched it so that XP wasn't so godawfully slow to build up and buy things with if you were purely F2P.

But none of that matters quite as much once you conc-grenade skied up and then down a mountaintop on a remade Katabatic, grab a flag at over 300km/h, while leading a disc right into a pursuer's dumb face as he flies behind.

So watching the 4th Day Recap TWD part, is it just me or is there a lot of annoying overlapping of different people talking with Ryan's voice the loudest and everyone else's kind of soft but still can be heard in the background? For a moment I thought I had accidentally opened multiple tabs/windows of the video but nope.
