Giantbomb GOTY 2012 Thread: Videos, Top 10's, and podcasts lots and lots of podcasts.

But the part with the genophage in Mass Effect 3 is the best part of the whole game. It is what the whole game should have been in terms of choice and consequence from previous choices.

I enjoyed the Geth/Quarian plot conclusion too - the renegade versions of both are also probably the most evil things you are allowed to do in the series.

As many times as I've played the games, I can't play Renegade. I've watched the Genophage Renegade conclusion and it is brutal.

I really appreciate all the kind feedback you guys offer, but as someone who's really uncomfortable with self-promotion, acknowledging the praise feels a little too much like implicitly saying "you're right, we ARE totally great!"

Even reasonable criticism is perfectly fine. It's the arrogant "well they only think that because their taste is shit/they don't know what they're taking about" kind of stuff that I can't seem to let slide. I should take a break for a while.

I understand not wanting to respond to the accolades. But I would also like you to respond to the actual points people are making instead of the ones around here that are just trying to get a rise out of you.

If you see something on here that makes you want to respond immediately... sit back and watch us argue for a bit.

I appreciate ME3 way more for how serious the renegade stuff is. It is so much more than anything in the previous games. You are going to save earth no matter the body count.

God, we love arguing.

It's funny how the GOTY is coming down to a game that basically has no gameplay (TWD), and a game that's all about gameplay/systems (X-com). Interesting year for sure.

hopefully it moves the industry in a good way for next gen... cuz let's face it, the first few years of next gen is gonna be full of duds.

I am NOT looking forward to the "half last gen, half current gen" thing that will inevitably happen.

The growing pains of the 360 launch were extremely rough. Madden 06, Tony Hawk's Wasteland, King Kong... ugh... UGH. Makes me sick.

really damn curious how these 'download games' will fair in the transition period.

Will xbla games work on next one? sounds unlikely for ps3. Will devs need to make xbla, psn, xbla2, psn2, steam versions, eshop(lol) of their games?

I know, but there are enough apparent crackpots on this forum to give the whole place a questionable reputation. If you aren't a regular here, it's hard to separate the reasonable discussion from the extremism.
Not to be a dick, but have you seen the comments section on your own site at any point?

Dumbassery is not an internet phenomenon unique to NeoGAF.

He disliked the original The Thing right? Taste invalidated.

WHAT?

(Technically, I have not seen the 1951 version.)

Also, to anyone confused by my Slender decision, just go back and read my article about Amnesia from a few months back. Pretty easy to call that one.

How is it not baffling? It's baffling in the same way if Patrick put Big Rigs in his top 10. Slender shouldn't be near anyones 2012 list.
You sound like someone who would argue Walking Dead didn't have enough gameplay to be considered GOTY.
Slender is a pretty effective game at what it does, like 4th Wall is, just because it isn't full of flashy stuff and the mechanics are pretty basic doesn't mean it can't be good and appreciated.

The way Ryan says "Sleeeeepy dawgs" gets me every time.

I also just laughed out loud at Patrick's description of the ending of Dragon's Dogma. Never played it, but that was hilarious.

I think they're going to give it to X-Com. I'd like to see it go to Sleeping Dogs, but that's just because it's the only game I've played from this year lol.

sleeping dogs need to win something.

It better be on vinny's top 10.

Weird that this open world brawler had the most enjoyable shooting for me this year. The pistols have this awesome kick and the game awards you more slowmo the better you shoot. It's more max payne than max payne.

Seriously why did max payne 3 not retain bullettime 2.0?

I just want to make a personal thank you note to the crew of Giant Bomb for doing these special end of the year podcasts.

I love my weekly gaming related content and even if everyone else is taking a break for a week or two, at least I have my Giant Bomb to listen to.

The joke is that Jeff is a real hoarder.

Explaining the jokes is always sad :(

actually, it was all a lie. this is what Jeff's home actually looks like!

I fully agree with all of this! That they used the shooting sparingly made it more awesome when it did happen.

I think they're going to give it to X-Com.

I hope so. I know it shouldn't matter but they've already given enough props to The Walking Dead, even going so far as to create a category for the best episode from it, and having it sort of spoil another one. Poor Mark of the Ninja not gonna win anything. I have a feeling it is Walking Dead though...

Come home, crack open an ice-cold Burnout Paradise, and jam out to the Lizzie McGuire soundtrack on your makeshift couch of skylanders cases. Jeff leads a life of pure fantasy.

Seems a bit unfair to knock AC3 for something Revelations did.

Still, I agree that it was probably the most disappointing game this year.

It's kinda funny that three of my favorite games this year ended up on Giant Bomb's "most disappointing list." Those games being Max Payne 3, Assassin's Creed 3, and Resident Evil 6.

I will concede that AC3 and RE6 were disappointing and not even very good games, but Max Payne 3 is awesome.

Alex and Tricky put up some great lists, and both provided good explanations of their choices too. Insane how many dislikes Tricky's vid has.

ACIII sounds like some godawful garbage... but ME3 was the clear winner. If expectations are a large part of the criteria, ME3 followed Giant Bomb's 2010 GotY ME2. Surely the gigantic step down weighs as the greatest disappointment.
