Nope I'm quite the opposite, loved him as a kid, his cartoons (including the very very old one that was in black and white, got those on DVD) were pretty awesome. I also enjoyed him in Justice League, but that was probably because they nerfed the fuck out of him in that show lol. There were episodes where he was just plain fucking useless, with his powers and skillset he would've probably been able to solve most or maybe of those problems on his own.
Anyways, he became quite boring, and with Batman's rise in popularity after The Dark Knight and Arkham games, he was kinda left in the shadows. Returns had visual appeal to it, but sucked. Never have I seen my cousin sleep in a movie theater, that was the first time.
But yea, I have grown away from the character due to there being far more interesting ones. This movie seems to be taking a completely different approach, and a more relate-able one. There's just something awesome about making Supes a homeless bum, with an awesome beard. Plus the dialogue is pretty good for a comic book film.
If I'm being entirely honest, Christopher Nolan's only good to great film is The Prestige.
His Batman films rank among the worst of his work, with Batman Begins being the best of the three. I honestly have a hard time rewatching both TDK and TDKR. I also get the feeling he doesn't really like to work on them simply by the sheer amount of shit he overlooks when making these films. I am looking forward to what he is doing next, just to find out what happens to him.
Peter Jackson is up there with the best of the best. The Fellowship is the most enjoyable and well made 1/3rd of a trilogy that can honestly be considered one of the most generation defining in our lifetime.

Nolan has picked up the mantle for the other two. Hes actually pushing them to see if they still have it. Its quite interesting to watch unfold.
Yeah, there's only so much mileage you can get out of that... and Donner's relationship between Jor El and Clark pretty much did everything worth seeing on film in that space. All Star Superman did it well, too... but I don't know if that'd work as a 2 1/2 hour live-action movie. Give me Action Comics. Give me Birthright. Give me Superman For All Seasons. Give me Tim Daly.
Let's see the other Superman I've come to know.

I wish we were getting Birthright but I'm pretty sure Goyer based his script on Geoff Johns' Secret Origin.
It looks like there's elements from both, but Zod doesn't really come from either. Seeing Clark traveling the world in his 20s is very Birthright/Earth One, to me.
If Clark's relationship with Pa is as good in this movie as it is in these two, I am going to love this film.

Picked up Secret Origin, Superman and the Legion, and Kingdom Come myself, though I've read All Star, Red Son, Seasons, and Brightright and would gladly recommend them.
All good books. That Gary Frank/Johns Legion story is pretty much the only Legion story I care for... aside from maaaybe some bits from the Smallville episode. Otherwise I sort of hate the concept of the Legion. That comic was a great metaphor for historic revisionism, though.
The kid looks like she's tucked around Superman. You're just jealous because you know someone who'd have been an amazing Superman.

Why do I always see people saying they're sick of seeing Superman's god complex told on screen?
I don't recall ever seeing it on screen outside of Brando's few words of wisdom in Donner's first film.

It's not, but the series is on comixology for about $12. Which is cheapest you're gonna get it for till the paperback comes out in April.
I think it's just people projecting how they view Superman onto the media he's in. People talk up how he's supposed to be this christ-figure, and that's what some see whenever they watch something involving Superman.
Personally, I don't want to see it because I just don't find that portrayal of Superman particularly interesting. Especially when they are already characters like Dr. Manhattan that have done it.

I think a lot of us are referring to his entire portrayal in Superman Returns or how he felt like he wasn't one of us in parts of Superman II. He also had a lot of god & christ-isms in the first Donner film, like you just mentioned.
There's actually a track on the Returns score called "You're Not One of Them." It plays when Superman realizes that Lois and him frankly can't work, and we then watch him fly above earth and watch us from space. If that's not a god complex I don't know what is. Exactly. People's ideas of bad movies are ridiculous.
To each their own. But yeah, there's a lot of god-complex in Superman 1, 2, and Returns. Alienation is certainly a part of the god-complex Superman has in those films (when they focus on them, of course). I think a lot of us here wanting something different are also including our hopes for Superman to be less-godlike in general.

My two dream projects:
1) Faithful live-action adaptation of Secret Identity
2) CGI animated Kingdom Come, with the designs/art-style done as close as possible to Alex Ross' art.
An All-Star Superman adaptation to end the series could be amazing... but it has to be deserved. It really is the perfect ending to Superman.
And I feel like the movie is more Birthright than Secret Origins. You see Clark exploring the world beyond the farm and metropolis and Pa's attitude towards Clark as Superman is closer to that in Birthright.

Secret Identity would probably work best as a two or three part mini-series. Animating it wouldn't be as effective for the entire verisimilitude angle the story is so front-and-center about.
I definitely feel a lot of Birthright/Smallville Jonathan Kent in what we're seeing (which is a very, very good thing).
I'm not sold on All Star ever being live action, though. It's really, really absurd and also asks a lot from the audience. It's an amazing comic and strong animated feature too, but I dunno. I know we'll only get so many live-action Superman films and All Star wouldn't exactly be on my top-ten things for them to do.

Have you seen all star superman. I loved that one. Maybe something like that would be okay. Not really human but vulenrable. But i guess that's something you do on the third or fourth iteration not reboot.

Nah unlike most of you guys I have good taste and am willing to call a spade a spade. If Hamm was good he would be on the big screen as a leading man. Instead he is stuck to supporting roles in Michael Mann rip-offs, video game wish fulfilments, and horrible chick flicks.
He only has been in the spotlights since Mad Men.
