The good thing about wii was that the thing resist a lot. I dropped mine lots of times and a couple of times from considerable heights, and it never gave me problems.

I love you all but, please no. I avoid the gaming side, and sold my wii exactly for this reason.
My love affair with Nintendo died with the end of the GameCube. The wiiU looks to be more of the same.

Now maybe I missed something, but I thought this was a game website, and as such, that sort of discussion belongs exactly here. I mean, why shouldn't it be ok? And we deserve to have a place to discuss game stuff with our own unique perspective, no? So I'll try to spin it maybe a little bit to a happy medium. What were people's first gay experience in a game? For me, I was stunned and happy to see a male-male kiss in Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon for Wii (as part of the narrative, not a choose your own adventure thing like Mass Effect or Fable.) That was really cool!

Wii U really isn't setting out to fix that with the Nintendo ID fiasco and online being complete ass. Call me when Nintendo actually starts to take online seriously, and maybe I'll give them the time of day. Otherwise they're the "Ace Attorney/Pokemon/Metroid" company for me and that's it.

I've been staying away from the gaming side because of the troll threads and constant bickering. Every thread feels derailed because of fanboys and it's a shame. I have my preferences but I own all consoles and handhelds, I wouldn't mind a little gaming conversation in here that was neutral without the bullshit.
The first gay experience? I think it was Leisure Suit Larry 6 and the stereotypical gay character Gary - the towel boy. However, the game also had some pretty sweet naked male asses later in the game
Another proof that BioWare's 3D modelers suck. Somehow they get Shepard/Mark Vanderloo right even in the first game, and yet failed with everyone else (especially Miranda and Kaiden).

New console + many of the better posters, industry posters, and smarter posters have left GAF or are posting less. Until we lost the NPD sales data it was much better. After that it all started to get a bit messy with a very low level of discourse.

Nah I find it fine over there, just at a less interesting level. There was much more industry analysis threads, and more people who knew what they were talking about posted. So yeah, it's fine over there, but not a rewarding as it used to be.

Halo has probably been my biggest gaming disappointment, along with the Wii.
I was expecting so much of this game, especially story-wise. I bought my first Xbox especially for it. While it was not a bad game, it was not at all what I hoped it would be.
Seeing that big ring go up all the way around was pretty cool, but I felt that the story was average and I didn't feel as compelled as in other games. I still played Halo 2 and 3, but never really enjoyed it. I think I wasn't able to get over the disappointment.
Wii was something similar. Couldn't bring myself to like the controls. They seemed gimmicky and annoying since the fatso in me prefers playing video games with the least movement possible. I did like SMG though.
But you know, to each their own. I'm glad some people love it.

I will admit the gaming side seems overly ugly to me right now. While part of it is generic console wars stuff, the fact that the first new console is Nintendo branded seems to have brought out an underswell of bitterness and hurt feelings related to the Wii that had died down for the last several years.
Kind of funny though how much damage losing NPD did. For all SalesAge was mocked by some, it did seem to have an effect on the ambient level of seriousness.
I'm the same way, always been rather horrible at FPSs having not really played much of them growing up, but its still fun to occasionally jump into a game of cod or halo with friends and dick around, even if I'm horrible.
The only shooter I've been moderately okay at has been Red Dead, but even then I stopped playing for too long and by the time I returned there was only top level players left (which meant swift death all over the place). Ah well.

I'm really looking forward to Seven Samurai, Once Upon a Time in the West and Scenes From a Marriage.
Nothing coming up that I'm dying to see. I really want to see Man of Steel though (I meant for this year, I don't know all that's coming up).
I still really have to see Les Mis, Django, Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln, Holy Motors and many more.
