Fighting Games Weekly | January 7-13 | All Eyez on Mr. Wizard

I don't know enough about DmC and the related stuff to know if it is or not. :-P (thats your warning, concept in spoiler text.)

The Jurassic Park logo, with the "HE HAS FUCKING RETURNED" under it.
That's confirmed BS now. No t-rex Vergil in DmC... thank you based god.

Prediction: Mr. Wizard scheduled EVO games to be announced the same week as Apex because Smash is at EVO. Apex is a secret EVO qualifier.

EVO game prediction:

SSF4AE
Marvel 3
Persona 4
KOF13
TTT2

There's very little chance of there being no MK representative, MK9 is still drawing a very consistent numbers at majors. The way I see it:

UMvC3 - Guaranteed
AE2012 - Guaranteed
Injustice: Gods Among Us - Highly Likely, only wouldn't be in the lineup if there are questions over its release date
TTT2 - Likely, although solely because they need a 3D game representative
Persona 4 - Likely, if Mr Wizard is smart though he would consider not putting the game in. High chance this game will be killed by BB:CP.
DOA5 - About 40% odds of getting in. Game is not strongly supported by the FGC but Mr Wizard might consider pushing for new audiences.
KOFXIII - About 40% odds of getting in. Game's numbers have been lackluster and will only decline.
SCV - Everyone rules the game out, but it's not impossible for it to be in the lineup. Will need much generosity from Mr Wizard.
MK9 - Game being in the lineup together with Injustice isn't impossible IMHO. Will probably draw a semi-decent number irregardless.
SSBM - Logistic nightmare, unlikely unless Mr Wizard is prepared for it. But will almost certainly draw very good numbers.
PSASBR - LOL. What format could they play the game with anyway?
SFxT - Only if Capcom forces the game into the lineup. Unlikely they have that much power.

I like how no matter what, if I click on a House of Crack stream, I will always have a legitimately entertaining conversation in the stream chat about something while catching the matches. Today's topic has been the Megaman Battle Network series. :lol

This is true, House of Crack chats are awesome, even for game-related discussions. Pretty much one of the few I participate in and don't hide away too.

Best part is Flux, RayRay, etc. respond to a lot of questions, and these are not only pros but really knowledgeable dudes about the game.

I know it's scytheavatar and all, but Melee being a "logistic nightmare?" Do you even know what those words mean?
- only game that would require a GCN/Wii
- only game that couldn't be run on Asus monitors

"Nightmare" might be pushing it, but neither of those factors really help.

I said it on smashboards (lol) while everyone was blowing their loads that they had a chance to be at EVO.

The fact that you need CRTs and shit like that is a huge pain in the ass.

Having Melee at EVO would be such a fucking headache, never going to happen.

And it's an old ass game. Not like MVC2, or CVS2 going to get a random ass rebirth either. Just wait for the next Smash... it likely get at least one shot, and the important part is that the Smash community support it in that particular year.

Gonna be real expensive for TOs in the future, transitioning to next gen.

Smash 4 on Wii U, everything else on 720/PS4. They could run TTT2 on Wii U too in the transitioning period but then stick compatibility becomes an issue since most probably bought it for consoles they already own and have sticks for.

It is also likely that it probably won't be as good as melee. The important part is getting the appropriate game and audience at EVO. That is ten times better than rallying around a game that may or may not suck.

If it's Sakurai in charge chances are the next Smash will be more dumbed down than Brawl. Although Namco is helping so who knows what the next Smash will look like.

I think the winner of the next gen tournament standard will depend on if the peripherals are backwards compatible. A lot of people spent a lot of money on arcade sticks, dual mods, and whatever else, and the console that can support those is the tournament standard for next gen.

I think the game being good/bad doesn't hold much importance as how much of the scene support it.

Kind of like how Sanford says that UMVC3 is scrubby, stupid etc... but so what? Even if it is true (not saying that it is or isn't) the community is behind UMVC3 and it brings in the number. So regardless if Wizard or Cannons thinking it's a good/bad game it's going to be at EVO regardless.

My thinking is that the Smash community has to band together and push whatever the next game is, even if it sucks like Brawl. There's just no way we are going to go back in time and have Melee.

I would expect the same.

Hardware reliability is another issue to consider. A major reason why PS3 made inroads early on was because of the 360's RROD nonsense.

I just hope that both of the future consoles don't have any stupid HDCP encryption for games. Streaming on PS3 requires extra hardware for that reason and I hate it.

That is the Capcom scene or the MK scene(mostly because they are specialists). The Smash scene has been clearly divided on the issue for years and they've got a healthy scene between the two games because of it. I applaud that tbh. It is it's own separate approach from the Capcom defaults and it brings the "numbers".

Options are good even if some folks would prefer numbers and competition over quality.

Well I'm with you that in a perfect world we have the 6 best games. However that just so freaking subjective, and going by the most popular game isn't such a bad idea. Gotta make money and grow right?

I got no problem with the other scenes doing it because it works for them, but it is just going to be forced on the Smash scene. No thanks to that. Variety is the spice of life.

Don't forget this is Sakurai we are talking about here. At least Ono cares about the competitive scene. Sakurai is content with tripping and dropping a bucket of poo over Smash players' heads in the process. I'd rather play another game than deal with that bullshit for the sake of money and growth.
