Rumored Chinese Forum Xbox720 specs: 8CoreCPU,8GB,HD8800GPU,W8,640GBHDD

There's a good chance Sony will end up using the same memory as MS.

Ignoring the rest of your post...

Then I'm not sure what kind of customization they can do related to thread counts. Sorry that's where you confused me.

I just saying we don't know anything about the Jaguar CPU used on Durango.

Those games would be great. But I would like MS to go with some other IP's new, and IP's that they own that they didn't hit for the 360 IN addition to those of course.

Lets be honest I just want Viva Pinata 3.

don't we all? :(

I fear they've sent the ip to the same void where rallisport challenge and many others have been sent by microsoft. :(

I'm not saying they will make a multi thread Jaguar.

This is a Jaguar CU:

4 cores per CU.
so if they have 8 compute units, they should get 32 threads? Maybe its 4 compute units and 16 threads? Who knows..

It is believable that they'll use an 8 cores / 8 threads cpu, given that they've chosen for the alpha dev kits a setup with 8 cores / 16 threads Xeons?

nope.
i7 are 4.5ghz with 8 threads. This guy is 8 ish threads (some maybe os only) at waaaay less speed.
Naw, you got your math wrong:

i7 with 4 cores at 2 threads each = 8 threads
That mean effectively each thread has a median 2.25ghz to work with. And here we have 8 cores at 1 thread each so each thread has 1.6GHz.

Also, which i7 has 4.5GHz, stock they only go up to 3.5. That would mean 1.75GHz per thread which means that 8 core should be pretty damn fast. At least on software that's written to use 8 cores.

wouldn't they just use an i5 in that case - 8 threads.

if they chose a xeon because of 16 threads then that suggests 8 cores and 16 total threads I think. if they are going with jaguar or any AMD CPU they wouldn't need a fast CPU in the devkit, so choosing xeon to match threads makes sense to me.

"Compute Unit" is just a cluster of 4 cores, 4 threads.

It's just 8 core/8 threads. Beyond that, you're better off looking for more capable CPUs with higher thread performance for the die area you're budgeting.

Why are you dividing the clock speed of the i7 by the number of cores? If it is a 3.5Ghz CPU, each core will run at 3.5Ghz (in turbo mode I assume).

Also not all cores are created equal, a i7 core will run circles around an AMD <pick one> core.

A 640GB HDD sounds way too big for a game console. Sure, they can do more now than ever before, but most computers today come with 250GB-500GB standard. The 360 launched with 20GB in 2005, and most computers were ~100GB from what I remember.

To continue : today the game "infinity danger" was released for Windows 8.
Now guess what the logo contains?

:P

I don't get it?

Hint : How big are HDDs are in DVRs? ;)

Huh what? Most computers have >500GB unless they use SSD. Even laptops above low range have 500GB minimum up to 1TB.

I was thinking that, but I do feel the situation would be much different had the Vita launched the same time the 3DS did.

I don´t think it really matters, the (short)time of 2 dedicated gaming handhelds is pretty much over.

The casual crowd moved on, the core gamers in the west mostly don´t really care for handhelds. Left are the younger demographics (handhelds are mostly seen as toys in the US/Europe), the Nintendo fans and a few handhelds enthusiasts.

Sony doesn´t have the ips to pull the first group and the enthusiasts are not enough to make such a device profitable.

Apple's cheapest iMac starts with a 1 TB drive. 640 isn't out of the realm of possibilities. I have a 320 on my 360 now that's practically full.

Absolutely not. That will fill up fast with full games. We're already getting 10-20GB full games now.

If anything 640 isn't that much considering the expected usage of the consoles coming, full download games that are 20+ gigs, DVR functionality, HD movies, etc.

if we start getting day and date digital releases, with the size of games nowadays, i don't know if even 1tb would be enough.

Do Microsoft of Sony have any say over when third parties can talk about next gen games they're working on? For example, if one of these third parties had to tell their stock holders what they're working on for the year, are they prohibited from giving specifics?
