lol@Brad spotting the lone FLCL OST disc sitting in the middle of a bunch of game discs. Truly the anime editor we need.

FLCL should be known by everyone since its awesome. However, I agree, Brad is our Anime editor at Giantbomb. Keep up the good work, Brad!

After a couple months, new office or old office?

I don't think they will ever top the basement but that's not to say that it's bad nowadays. They had a couple of rough months for sure but since the last BLLSL they've been pumping out good content.

But yeah, there was something about the Sosalito office that they will never get back. The feel of just a bunch of friends hanging together in a basement is gone now that they've gone "corporate". I mean, sure there's still a lot more "loose" than other websites (which is awesome) but it's not the same.

Just caught up on the Euro Truck Quick Look. Didn't expect it to be so hilarious throughout! Definitely one of the best QLs ever. I would like to see more of that game all modded out with them doing the craziest stuff they can think of. No more detours into the depths of the internet, though!

Also I hope Brad keeps going at Spelunky. It's pretty entertaining to watch good plans fall apart as they tend to do in that game, and on the off chance that Brad actually beats the game, it would be a more epic victory than Mile High Club. You'd actually be able to see him learn more and get better at the game as it progressed, which would be neat to see. It helps that Spelunky is an all-around fantastic game.

Jeff talking mess about Red Dead.

Yeah, I think you've gotta play a game as big as RDR is for more than an hour to be able to speak with any kind of authority on the game, even if you are the most experienced game reviewer out there. It's fine to have an opinion, but it's a bad idea for anyone trying to be persuasive about anything to give out firm, declarative statements about something when you have had very little experience with that thing. Exponentially moreso when said person reviews these things for a living and has thousands of people being influenced by what he says relating to these things. Responsibility has to come into play at some point.

He did this with Dark Souls too. Played a half-hour, got lost after the tutorial level, and definitively referred to it from then on as a bad game. There is a big difference between the approach Ryan took with that game and Jeff took. Ryan said (paraphrasing), "I see the appeal, but it just isn't for me." Jeff repeatedly called it a bad game up through GOTY deliberations.

Doing this just dilutes a critic's authority when it comes time to review something for real. If Roger Ebert walked out of The Godfather in the first ten minutes because he was bored and then went around calling it a bad movie, then his word as a critic would be worth less value to people looking for honest, well-informed, well-crafted opinions. At least, it would if Roger Ebert wanted to continue being viewed as a well-regarded critic in his field, that is.

To sum this mini-rant up (TL;DR): If you can't even bother figuring out how to ride a horse in a game in which that is a central mechanic, you probably shouldn't be talking definitively about said game.

So I'm in the middle of playing Sleepy Dawgs, and I think I'm having a GOB Bluth moment. I try to keep my Wei Sheng baller all the time, so I have him dress up in the most expensive suits available. So I really don't want to do any of the dumb missions anymore cause I don't want to mess up my 50,000 dollar suit.

COME ON!

Sorry for giving Brad some good-natured shit about his favorite cowboys game on the podcast, you guys! I will ensure that I am DEATHLY SERIOUS ABOUT VIDEO GAMES from here on out to ensure a proper interpretation of my words instead of vastly overstating my opinion on games I don't really care for to ANY sort of comedic effect.

Keep on reachin' for the stars!

jeff please list the best three castlevania games right now and if it's not totally serious and correct then nobody is listening to your chucklefuck opinion ever again

If Jeff made a spiteful RDR review and calling out Brad on how wrong he is then id say you got a point. This is a podcast. Its entertainment. We know Jeff's perspective and personality on the show. Stop caring so much about someone liking what you like. Stop being so rigid. Have fun.

Giantbomb Review Wars where they call bullshit on their own reviews sounds fun in a trashy reality show kind of way. Its such a terrible idea.

You were joking? How can I take your word on your Orville Redenbacher’s Classic Kettle Korn and future popped snack foods reviews seriously anymore?

I saw this over on GB:

With the new site we're switching to Akamai hosting. I just think we're pushing the limits of what Amazon's cloud serving can do in regards to large files.

This change is not yet up on the beta site, but will be before launch (late January).

I believe I remember them mentioning that they would be switching hosting companies for the new site but it's nice to see confirmation. I have on and off video streaming issues like a lot of others and it'll be nice to be able to reliably watch subscriber videos in HD again.

Yeeeeeeeeeesh. Been seriously thinking about dropping my subscription as I got pissed at the constant streaming issues, either the player or the server is shit, everything used to work just smoothly for me with giantbomb.

I hope they fix the streaming because as it is, the site is completely useless for me. I have to use Youtube if I ever want to watch a video.

Praise the lawd. I was literally getting 30kb/s downloading a video before. They should test out a bittorrent option if the videos are popular enough.

Well it's good then. If you had problems with Amazon maybe you will do better with the new one.

I found this and I think it's related.

Red Dead Redemption is the game of the generation. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong and smells.

I'm currently playing through it again, and having seen it all already I'm still impressed by it <3 I would give up Mass Effect 2 & 3 for another RDR right now, no problem.

maybe if the slowmo ability wasn't total junk.

You know what I hated about red dead? That sweet fuckin slowmo ability you got early on got WORSE when it was upgraded. What the fuck is that. Listen, game, you give me a slowmo button? I'mma fuckin use it like this was Max Payne 3. But, then, what the fuck? It gets turned into this weird auto locking bullshit? I have to tag people now? What the fuck. If Red Dead wanted to be game of the generation maybe they shoulda let you pop slowmo, fuckin shoot motherfuckers like real video games, up until the slowmo runs out. None of this painting buuuulllshit. None of this "once you fire we exit slowmo automatically" fuckin' garbage. Let me press the button, let me fuckin shoot dudes as much as I want within the duration of the ability, and let me feel like I'm playing this game.

AND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, ADD A SIDEWAYS DIVE WHERE I CAN SHOOT PISTOLS YEAH.

(this post is entirely serious, fuck that stupid forced upgrade on the slowmo ability. Ruined the game for me. RUINED IT.)

Same here. I'm also currently playing it again and it's still a fantastic experience.

That said, disabling auto-targetting is a must for me. Without it I think the game is considerably more fun (and the slow-mo mechanic and items such as moonshine acutally become important that way).

Some people, such as Jeff, just don't like slow-burning games with a huge emphasis on atmosphere. Jeff is a pure "game mechanics" guy, who doesn't get much out of the atmosphere aspect of a game, who wants to shoot shit for instant gratification and he needs very snappy/direct/fast mechanics to have fun. For these very reasons, he never "got" the Souls games either. I'm cool with that. People like different stuff.

And Starbreeze's Syndicate sucks ass btw!
;)

Boy those side missions in Red Dead Redemption sure were fun.

Hunting skunks. Them not being where they're supposed to be. Spending hours looping the same area.

Yep, that sure was fun.
