Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

Of course two weeks after I finally decided to switch accounts on my vita to get the much cheaper EU version of VC2 they drop the price. >:(
The EU version still works out a better deal I would have thought? £13.98 for the game and all of the DLC - unless the US includes the DLC as well.

Nothing quite like making your first OT and having 90% if it's first posts be people saying they aren't getting the game. :(

Sorry bro - I'm usually reselling all my games (except atlus ones and few others) which makes a net cost of playing them in 5-10 euro range.
Considering EDF is digital only and hardly an AAA+ title it's way too expensive for me.

It's 12,99€ in the € zone :O

I never played VC on PS3 though but I guess I'll have to fix that very soon.

VC2 have huge spoilers for VC1 story - play them in correct order.

Haha, no need to apologize. I wasn't singling anyone out, just that pretty much the entire first page was a barrage of "I'm not buying this." without a single person being as excited about it as I was. At least now it's gotten better!

Another disappointing EU PSN Vita and PSP sale selection... was hoping for TitS and NLKS sale.

As for Senran Kagura, I'm not going to understand anything but I'm seriously considering getting it. It just looks like dumb fun. I don't see it being released in EU, though I'd like it to.

Any game with a mode called Panty Scramble has to be doing something right.
Probably does an awful lot wrong as well, but hey. I'm still interested.

Lack of EU sales is frustrating but I've come to expect mediocrity on that side of things. Could've done with some serious PS1/PSP sales as well. :(

I'm still hoping EDF gets a magical PS+ discount or something~

Thank you! I was actually wondering about this, I'll try to stay clear of VC2 for now then.

Yeah, but that's just the game without the DLC right? I factored in the complete DLC as well (I can't see the € price).
Uhm, I just went in the DLCs section for VC2 to check, section is there but it's totally empty. Weird. So I guess the game already has the DLCs? No mention of that on the game's page though.

Was hoping also for a sale in TitS, but was weak and finally grabbed it. The only PSP game i am interested in. So far so good, about all music and style. My only complaint is that text is a little blurred. My vita backlog is huge, i will try to concentrate in one or two games.

Sorry to ask.. but what is the worst game "LOAD TIME"-wise on the VITA..? Are there any games that have way to much loading going on..? if so, what games and how long are those load times..?

I'm really itching to get it not only for my interest in it, but also in the hope that the more sales it gets the more chances we'll have of getting an EU release of the sequel (prequel?) they're making for Vita.

I'm confident the good will outweigh the bad in this case. :)

Think that in sale it was 17 euros. So 13 euros of difference. They days you play it until it is on sale will be well invested in your happiness for that difference.

I'd rather they had said nothing than keep shifting the goal posts on Vita holiday sales, making promises then not delivering doesn't make you look very competent. Now they are saying there will be a Vita specific sale sometime in the near future....

Gives me chance to work on that backlog.

You, sir, make a very compelling argument. Were I not interested in making other simultaneous acquisitions, I would certainly do it.

VC2 game
Complete DLC pack

The DLC pack is listed in the "you might also like" on the game page, in the UK at least.

I don't believe the DLC is available yet to download direct to the Vita even though there seems to be a reference to it. Looking on the UK store via the Vita under PSP DLC the VC2 entry states "There are no content items".

Perhaps SCEE will make it available shortly.

When does the European PS Via store actually update?

The last thing on there seems to be Knytt Underground on the 21st Dec.

They aren't exactly pumping content out.

Holiday break?

Usually today around 18:00 / 19:00 / 20:00 (depending on your timezone), though you see content popping up earlier if you search.

Ok, possibly buying a Vita tomorrow.
What are some need to know things? I'm in Aus, can I play games from US or JAP on it?
What size card is good? Any reason to buy new, and not preowned? Must play games?
Any advice you guys can give is appreciated!

I just recently got one, so others are more qualified to answer your questions. I will say, though, people weren't lying about the memory card limitation. Get at least a 16gb. I'm currently working with 8, and I'm annoyed. Also, while PS+ is more of a luxury for PS3, I think it's a necessity for Vita owners. The value is just too good to pass up.

I'm not sure I would buy a preowned handheld, unless the markdown was substantial. Then again, I've heard video game prices are astronomical in Australia. I've heard (but not verified) that Sony will not honor warranties if you buy it used.

Thanks! Yeah its like 100$ difference. Theyre offering AC:L and a 4gb card for $298, but I have no interest in AC:L. Would go for Battle Royale, or P4G.

The EU store updates stopped for the Christmas break. Today is the first one of the year and the actual store update will be around 4-5pm UK time - though they have been putting some of the content up early in recent weeks. Regardless, the blog post with details of most of the updates should appear at around 3pm.

The PSM updates are up already. Usually happens by Wednesday morning in the UK (well, by around 6am I mean).

so whats the word about life of pixel? is it worth it?

Also is there anyway to turn off the tutorials popup on screen in assassins creed liberation? I searched but could not find any option!
I was at the end of game at last assassination and after it was over. Tutorial popped up Bribe officials to reduce notoriety. Leap of faith tutorial comes every time on the screen at every viewpoint!

Thats the thing though, its overall not necessarily a good platformer (Despite having some early good standout levels). I wish they'd have done more something along the lines of different gameplay styles across different times. I have about 20 levels done now and the levels (despite even having gravity switches, removable blocks and some other stuff) lack the imagination of good jump& run levels. Additionally, some may be pretty nicely tuned around the jumping mechanics, especially in the first world, but the game falls apart with cheap deaths and poor level design in the multi-screen levels.

I mean, you guys are still right. Its only 2$ so its definitely worth that. But not considering the price, its not really a good game. Easily the worst game I have played on Vita so far and not anywhere near the quality of Surge/Velocity or even the proper Vita games.

Pro:
- Low Price
- Quick Platforming fix
- The jumping mechanics actually make for some interesting platforming once you get used to it.
- Changing graphics
- They mentioned adding new graphical styles to the game (DLC I guess?)
- 64 levels sounds like a lot atm...

Contra:
- ...but considering how short they are it should be more shorter levels (The longer ones do NOT work in favor of the game).
- Not enough changing other stuff (music, gameplay elements, I would have loved to see different genres too even if that evolves into a minigame collection where each genre only has 8 levels) SO much potential
- Most levels (the multi screen ones especially) are badly designed (Imagination AND challenge wise)
- Dodgy/unprecise hit detection
- Cheap deaths
- No highscore table

Sorry, Super Icon!

for $2? yes!

Buy it.

Shame there isn't system specific music to go along with the graphics but it's a great game and it is cheap.

How much did you play? Because it gets worse the more you play and definitely doesnt qualify as "great". It serves as a quick enjoyment rush for 2$ though.
I posted a list of shortcomings 3 posts above, feel free to discuss any with me.

I concur, get at least a 16gb card

Yeah, it's still a little bit cheaper, but the DLCs aren't included.

Official statement on the EU shop page is that the VC2 DLC doesn't work on the Vita. Don't know if that's true, though.

You can play physical copies of any game from any region on a Vita. Digital is more complicated, requiring a second memory card, secondary accounts and other frustratingly unnecessary stuff.

What size card is good?
Unless you plan on going physical only, it's really recommended you go 16gb or 32. At first you think, I'll manage with 8gb, but once you get used to having a few games a touch of the finger away, you'll want every game you own to be a touch away. But it's not really needed if you're not going to buy PS1/PSP/Vita DD games at all.

Any reason to buy new, and not preowned?
Other than supporting the developers, no. Believe some games come with an online pass, although I never remember putting one in for Hot Shots Golf when I went online.

Must play games?
Persona 4 Golden and Gravity Rush are probably the two absolute must haves that I've personally played. I think Uncharted and Rayman Origins are both really really good though, and they're reasonably priced.

Hopefully you have a PS+ subscription, it will help a lot. But you might need a 16gb ;)

Any advice you guys can give is appreciated!
If you get one, enjoy it! It has no gaemz, but it does have quite a few games, contrary to popular belief

Ok, possibly buying a Vita tomorrow.
Welcome!
What are some need to know things? I'm in Aus, can I play games from US or JAP on it?
Yes! Vita games are not region locked. Any card game can be played on the any vita! But be aware that online passes are region locked. U need the game from same regiona s your account in order to use online pass. U will be safe to buy games from region 2.
What size card is good?
If going all physical and occasional psn game 4 gb is ok.
I have 16gb. and have many digital games patches and psn games.
Any reason to buy new, and not preowned? Must play games?
Since games are on card[rarely gets damaged] there is no reason to not buy pre owned games! Some preowned games will give error regarding earning trophies while starting them. That can be easily resolved by deleting the install bubble and installing the game again! Oh and pre owned games will not come with online passes! They are usually $9.99 on the psn store. So take into account the total price. Someplaces will get u new physical games cheaper than used+online pass price. Keep an eye out!

As for must play games:
Gravity rush
uncharted
wipeout 2048
rayman origins
little big planet
surge from playstation mobile
metal gear solid collection [if never played them]
strangers wraith [if never played it]
mutant blobs
super star dust delta
Any advice you guys can give is appreciated!
GET PS +
If your hands are cramping get a grip! My hands have adjusted now i don't feel cramps etc.

Haunt the House: Terrortown on PSM looks pretty cool; reminds me of Haunting Starring Polterguy on the Mega Drive.

Also, disappointing EU sale. :( The comments indicate there'll be some Vita stuff today and a Vita specific sale 'soon', though.

As many have already said, get at least an 8-16GB memory card. Or you could get a 4GB for the first weeks of use, especially if you're getting a couple physical games with the console, and get a bigger card later on: you'll still need a 4GB card to enjoy japanese-only demos or if you're interested PSOne games from the US store (I don't know about Australia but European PSN stores have fewer games than US stores, and they even run badly with all the PAL issues back in the PSOne days). Even if you only buy physical copies of Vita games you have to know many games are digital only (Sound Shapes, etc) so a 4GB is too damn reductive in any case except for alternate accounts.

AND BUY GRAVITY RUSH!

Silly question xP
since i don't have a ps3 and there's no Valkyria Chronicles II and darkstalkers on the psp section in my vita psn store if i buy them on the pc through SEN can i transfer them for the vita or will they appear in my vita store in the stuff to download?

Sorry bro - I'm usually reselling all my games (except atlus ones and few others) which makes a net cost of playing them in 5-10 euro range.
Considering EDF is digital only and hardly an AAA+ title it's way too expensive for me.

Same here I can't even think of 5 potential future games I would buy full price digital.

This is doubly true on vita where memory is small and expensive.

Due to their digital only nature NLKS/EDF are my two most wanted plus games in the future.

Sorry to ask.. but what is the worst game "LOAD TIME"-wise on the VITA..? Are there any games that have way to much loading going on..? if so, what games and how long are those load times..?
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is easily the worst because of how often the loads (lasting almost a minute) occur. Comparable offenders like Wipeout and Gravity Rush at least have the decency to occur at less frequent intervals (due to the nature of the gameplay in Gravity Rush's case) or give you something to look at (in Wipeout's case).
