Fighting Games Weekly | January 7-13 | All Eyez on Mr. Wizard

I sorta agree but seeing you guys go in circles about it was infuriating. When BBCP comes out I'll be playing it but to be honest I have not seen a level of support for BB like I have seen for P4a for every incarnation of it. I'm a bit wary.

That's primary because the old BB games sucked and people didn't have a lot of fun with those stupid hit pauses making the game super slow paced. BB:CP promises to play a lot closer to P4A, possibly at a faster pace than even P4A.

air dash, barier block which is like push blocking, and alpha counters and cancels. Not really complex

Well for a person that plays mainly capcom games or tekken games I can see how they can say that.

I mean there is OMC, OMB, gold burst, blue burst, alpha counter, roll, short hop, awakening, persona cards, and then the whole debuff thing.

edit

shit forgot about air turn which probably mind fucked a good portion of players.

It's faster than P4A with the exception of a match ending as the damage is lower and paced better.

Well One More is basically X-factor and other than the gold/blue burst the others are all in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Darkstalkers has a bunch of them as well.

And that's why I also brought up Guilty Gear, which didn't have those problems, but might still not have been as big, relatively, as Persona 4 Arena was in the last 6 months.

And it goes back to the case of simplicity, which turns some people off, but I believe has brought in a lot more people that I just can't see Chrono Phantasma replicating.
I mean Uncle Valle explicitly said that he plays the game cause it's easy to get into.

Capcom games have a bunch of shit to them I don't know where that idea that they dont comes from. They are just hidden under shit, where arc games have it out there for everyone so it can seem overwhelming

Despite P4a being shallow (imo and this is due partly because the cast is pretty small) it's still more fun for me than BB up until this point.

They just have very limited movesets. You don't get the creativity/exploration you do in other games.

wasn't there some just-frame shit for something like OMC? fuck I can't believe I don't remember.

edit

That what it was called Roman Cancel. holy fuck

In guilty gear? It was the false roman cancels. Those were sorta hidden in the arcade release although they had guides with frame data for them. training mode in the home versions had a blue flash on the input bar for the timings though making it not hidden for the home release.

Yeah that. I was never big into GG/BB but I knew there was something.

The one thing P4A hammered in me (since I never really played GG/BB) was that you don't want to get counter hit. Holy fuck if you got counter hit by certain moves in that game you straight up died.

Yup. Darkstalkers has a lot of shit I didn't know about, and it seems so basic on the surface. I didn't even know pursuit attacks even existed till I found the main learning resource. Blew my mind that jackie chan mechanics made there way into a capcom game.

This is one of my major gripes about FADC cancels. Tag Cancels in SFxT are intuitive. FADCs are not.

If I could teach Prototype to be about on par with me in a month after he never really played 2d fighters ever. Im pretty sure arc sys games are not too complex.

Edit: MENT MONTH NOT WEEK

maybe its prototype being good at fighters lol. I tried to teach people the basic of P4A and they felt like there was just too much shit to learn.

He's smart we debate about tons of stuffs these days fighting game wise. but trust me he FUCKING SUCKED BAD at first. If you can find the write up god's did after playing me about how I am in fighters. proto is pretty much the same way. Just with his own playstyle.

No but seriously when BBCP comes out I'll host lessons for gaffers this time around. I just gotta brush up on my teaching skills as most of my playing comes from instinct on the spot.

I still can't believe they would be dumb enough to release P4A in PAL land as is. I expect a 2013 update with say Yukari, junpei, fox and shinjiro soon. PAL people get a dlc code with the game.

Given it comes with balance changes and the like, it could be really good.

At least that is what I would do given the opportunity.

I liked that arc games had additional sub systems and options you have with meter.

They are there to make it so everyone has a counter to something even if their move set doesn't hold one. They are normally minor though and they are there to just give them a small chance than no chance

Since I have little else with which to entertain myself at 3AM, I went ahead and made a chart of past and present official Evo games. Doesn't include borderline, semi-official stuff like last year's SF2 Tournament of Legends or VF5 side tournament.

Dat 11-year MvC2 streak.

And I still can't believe MKDS was a thing.

MVC2 being at EVO was more reliable than fucking Mariano Rivera in the post season.

Wasn't one of the Tekken 5 > Tekekn 5 DR? I'm pretty damn sure we didn't play 5.0 4 years in a row.

I don't know. It's not hard for me to justify SFxTK as a 7th-stringer.

7th stringer? If the update is half decent if will get the 3rd most entrants unless atlus do some Mai and chie tshirts lol.

Final Round made 2013 an official game as well, it's in the Fall Classic too.

That's what I'm saying though. I mean, I would honestly still prefer that it die a miserable and lonely death, but when you expand the list of official games to 7+, it's kind of hard to make a definitive case against it...

Counter hits are so good in P4A.

Persona to me lacks depth in terms of fancy combos, since they made that part easy, but I don't think the game is lacking in strategic depth (though Mitsuru/Aigis push that some)

As for SFxTK being 7th string- I think that will go to KOF this year

My predicted ranking for entrants: AE/Marvel/Persona=Tekken/SFxTK=MK9/KOF.

Persona will do well because it's a game that doesn't require a lot of lab time, so folks can just play without having huge time investments, so lots of folks picked it up as a secondary game. That's a big reason why it does well at majors (and maybe doesn't do as well online)

It's kinda funny, that out of the current line-up, MK9 is the longest standing game at three years in a row (if you're separating AE from 2012, which most people seem to do).

About SfXT being at EVO again, I just want to point something out:

Some of them kinda tastes like chicken! And all the salt just makes it more tastier! <3

Careful, Horseress. All of that can't be good for you.
