Genres or games you just can't get into?

We all have are favorite genres but what is that one or two specific ones that you cant for the life of you get into or understand how others can find it appealing?

For me it's any type of economic strategy game. Games like Civilization or even Rome Total War where you have to monitor your people's happiness levels or make sure your city is getting enough food or making sure the population is happy, fuck that shit. Though I can't really articulate critically what I dislike about them other than their extremely boring and that I feel like I'm just interacting with a glorified spreadsheet. Of course I'm generalizing but to me it feels more like work than something that's supposed to be fun. Like in some hypothetical reality where this was actually how stuff got done I could see just some dude working an 8-5 job on the computer all day looking at spreadsheets and deciding where to allocate resources, and it wouldn't be to far off how I'd describe my experience with these kind of games.

Racing games. Everything feels so slippery and I crash a lot.

A specific game would be Resonance of Fate. Can't figure out the combat system.

Does Multiplayer FPS counts as a genre? Because I just can't. SP FPS I enjoy (the few I play) but when I go online I just get insanely bored. Unless it is Unreal Tournament of course. It makes no sense but I just don't feel like I am enjoying myself online in those kind of games.

e) Ah yes, fighting games as well.

Some of the games that Paradox develop such as Europa Universalis III and Victoria II.

I can see why a person would thoroughly enjoy those games but they are just simply too complicated for me.

Honestly, Civilization would probably be a good example for me as well. I played Civ 2 and enjoyed it, but could never get too far before being distracted.

It might just be that I wasn't in the right mood though. I'm not saying that I won't "get it" someday. I even bought Alpha Centauri on GoG the other day, it's waiting there patiently in my backlog.

And actually, it happenned to me with many games I expect to get back to someday, and I really feel I should be able to have fun with them, like Earthbound, or lately, Metro 2033 and Bioshock. I guess I'm just the kind of person who likes to leave things unfinished and chase the new shiny thing behind the corner.

MOBAs.

I even played DOTA on WCIII for a while back in the day. It was just never that fun to me and I'm of the firm opinion that those games would be much better if they were in the third person like SMNC.

Use to love fighting games but they got so damn technical.

Use to love racing games but I burnt myself out on them.

Use to love JRPGs but then they stopped making sense.

Use to love online FPS but then I lost my taste for endless rematches and seeing the same old content.

Use to love videogames but then I got old.

fighting games. I'm not a huge fan of sport games, rts', or racing games, but I could see myself getting into one of them at some point. Fighting games just seem too impenetrable in order to get good enough at them so that they would actually be rewarding to play.

The Witcher series. I tried both of them, they just can't hold my interest.

How come? The setting, gameplay, story? :o

I have i as well but not The Witcher. It is the few RPG games that do entertain me. The story is pretty okay which is pretty important since 90% of the RPG games have a story my dog could write.

racing.

used to love ps1 ridge racer.
then loved burnout ... up to paradise to a degree. But burnout revenge? was the last great one...

now I find all the racing games to be pretty boring. somethings missing.
sim racing lke GT = fuck me sideways. ZZZZzZZZ

not into sports games
not into miltary shooters. don't mind fantasy/scifi
not into strategy.
not into diablo type clickyclicky games

Sports games, unless its a "fun"sports game like NBA JAM(not the recent remake one)

Oh and fishing games, I love fishing in games that offer it(legend of Zelda, ffxi, other rpgs types) but not actual fishing games so if I had to play something like "Big Bass Challenge" then no.

Fighting games. I remember the days of tagging along with my brother and his friends, watching them play Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat at the local Pizza Hut or Roundtable. I never tried playing myself at the time because I knew none of the moves or combos and the guides that came in GamePro or EGM just confused me.

I own one or two fighting games and try to practice all the moves in the move list but it always feels like I'm doing it wrong and I never seem to know what move is appropriate for a given situation.

Nope, the setting doesn't interest me. I don't like the gameplay that much. The story just bores me. I honestly have no real motivation to try and like it.

Fighting games. Some people I know are sooo into that scene, but I just think stuff life SFIV is boring as hell. Maybe if I gave one such game more time, and actually got good at it, I'd like it, but I'm just not interested. I like party fighters like SSB though.

I'm generally open to every single genre, but most of the times I get bored very easily and very quickly by very linear/heavily scripted games.

Also, sport games need to be actually *outstanding* to interest me even remotely.

Pretty much anything with a Sci-fi setting I can't get into, with the exception being some of the Star Ocean games. Even then, it's mostly because they're basically medieval fantasy disguised as sci-fi.

Also, anything with random encounters has pretty much become unplayable to me these days.

I can count on one hand the number of turn-based JRPGs I've played through to completion. I've always wanted to get into them, but I just can't do it. This does not extend to SRPGs like FFT or Action JRPGS like Tales I've played tons of those.

I also can't play MOBAS, because of the immense rage I feel whenever I die in those games its just not healthy. I actually really like playing them when I'm doing decent.
