If you've never played a 3D Ninja Gaiden game, then let me warn you that it's brutally hard.
Mashing buttons and spamming attacks will not work, there is no autosave or checkpoint system (just save statues scattered around that you can save at) and no automatically regenerating health.
The combat itself is less about flashy combos and more about reacting to enemy attacks and managing groups of opponents.
There will almost never be a time where you'll fight one enemy by himself unless you're fighting a boss on lesser difficulties.

Most reviews and impressions for Ninja Gaiden Sigma can be applied to this game, so it should be easy to find out whether you'll like it or not.

Thank you for the detailed response. I've only played 2D Ninja Gaiden in the NES days, but yours and others comments have made me want to give it a try. Although I am a bit worried about the managing of health (hoping it regenerates at save points or at the end of missions or something). Now to wait for a sub-$20 price.

For impressions of NGS+, just refer any reviews of the game's previous incarnations (eg. original XBox or Sigma on PS3). Same game, but with a slight downgrade in graphics from the PS3 version.

Ever played a Bayonetta, DMC, or God of War game? Very similar.
And yes, I think save points will refill your health gauge the first time you activate them.
You can also find health items and pickup health drops from enemies.

Where Omega says it's not flashy, sure, it doesn't have the cinematic kills or over the top nature to the point of a Bayonetta/God of War/Devil May Cry game, but it's still flashy enough. There's a ton of different weapons to switch between, there's a bunch of different combos for each weapon, and while you can find a few that work and stick with them, there is a large variety of moves and combos to execute should you care to do so. This isn't Dynasty Warriors combat, there is depth to it... and it's flashy enough, just not extremely stylized or ridiculously over the top.
 
Does Oddworld pick up at all narratively? I've done three bounties so far and I'm hoping this isn't the most the game has to offer ie: go here, kill this guy.

The PAL and Asian region versions are in English, so you're good.

I wish they'd have done more something along the lines of different gameplay styles across different times. I have about 20 levels done now and the levels (despite even having gravity switches, removable blocks and some other stuff) lack the imagination of good jump& run levels. Additionally, some may be pretty nicely tuned around the jumping mechanics, especially in the first world, but the game falls apart with cheap deaths and poor level design in the multi-screen levels.

Pro:
- Low Price
- Quick Platforming fix
- The jumping mechanics actually make for some interesting platforming once you get used to it.
- Changing graphics that properly represent the emulated graphical style
- They mentioned adding new graphical styles to the game (DLC I guess?)
- 64 levels sounds like a lot atm...

Contra:
- ...but considering how short they are it should be more shorter levels (The longer ones do NOT work in favor of the game).
- Not enough changing other stuff (music, gameplay elements, I would have loved to see different genres too even if that evolves into a minigame collection where each genre only has 8 levels) SO much potential
- Most levels (the multi screen ones especially) are badly designed (Imagination AND challenge wise)
- Dodgy/unprecise hit detection
- Cheap deaths
- No highscore table
- No replay value

I should have mentioned that you can find items that replenish your health.

Anyway, corrosivefrost described the combat better then I ever could. It's deep, it's varied, but only as much as you want it to be.
There's this awesome GameFAQs advanced combat guide by Aaxe for Ninja Gaiden Black that still mostly applies to Ninja Gaiden Sigma. It served as an indispensable resource for me when I was learning the combat system, but it can be quite overwhelming if you don't have some familiarity with the combat.

If you have access to a PS3, getting Sigma is probably a better choice but Sigma Plus is great if you don't care too much about framerate and/or you re looking for a good portable action game.

Oh yeah: if you dislike touch gimmicks, then you might want to stay away since you use the rear touch pad to power up your magic and the front touch screen to go into first person mode (to aim your bow or look around). They're not too intrusive, but you can't turn them off.

Speaking of rear touch gimmicks, I wish they would let me select to use the rear touch while scrolling, especially web pages. Anything to get me to not wipe fingerprints off of the front screen as often.
 
Didn't one of the firmware updates allow people to control Vita menus with buttons? That hasn't worked for me since the last update (2.0.2, I think).

That was added one or 2 firmware updates ago. It's in the settings menu somewhere I think. Or maybe the settings in the browser.

You can use the rear touch pad to vertically scroll through web pages. I think you have to enable it in the settings first.

looks ok...i feel there is a disconnect between the gun's pixel art and the environ/enemy pixel art... probabaly becasue they are just scaling images up or something along those lines....
 
Unit 13 is one of the best games this year and on Vita alone, it's kind of underrated.

It has eminent controls, and it's easy to play but hard to master in the sense that there's a lot of competition on the leader boards.

The addictive thing about Unit 13 is to figure out how you best deal with the level design and enemy patrols. There's everything from stealth, to all out shooting to doing different objectives with a clock ticking down.

It can be intense but also immersive. Unit 13 is absolutely fantastic. And every Vita owner owe it to themselves to at least try it out.

Anyway, got discount on PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for Vita and my boss ordered it already. And I'm gonna go get Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection tomorrow.

I also just got promoted so I'm now my editor-in-chiefs assistant and I get pay for reviewing my review copies now as well. Add to that, that my girlfriend just came buy and gave me an Asus ultrabook PC all of a sudden - great day haha. Though she were a bit annoyed at the Virtue's Last Reward demo I played on Vita the last time and she looked weird at me when I were rubbing that poster of the bikini girl haha.

I've been playing the PSP version of Star Wars Battlefront II all day. It plays so nicely with dual sticks, but it looks like arse. Gotta kill dat rebel scum, though.

It's made me want to play more Vita shooters. Gotta hold out for just one more week for EDF!

There's no story in Unit 13 no. But I got my dosis with Uncharted: Golden Abyss back at launch. There's also the MGS HD Collection if one want story. :)

I'm tossing up between picking one up now, or waiting for a price drop. Thing is, you would think there would have been a decent one by now, and I've been saying this since it released!

Obvious question that I'm pretty sure I know the answer to, but the Vita uses my PSN, same as PS3? ( it must, how else would trophies go together) I ask, because my friend has PS+ and we buy games together on his account, and share. That would still work, right? If not, I'll have to stop paying for his +, and buy games on my account I guess!
