talk about a change of subjects.

Don't worry Brad, we all have moments when we realize, holy shit, Home Alone came out 22 years ago.
Ugh, that knowledge is almost as bad as all these 25th/20th anniversaries we've been having for some game series in the past few years. :/

I appreciate this view and wish I could share it more readily, but it's the final cessation of consciousness, the destruction of the ego that is so hard to grapple with. The idea of giving up all that you have, from a cognitive standpoint, is hard to accept. It makes me shudder.

Sorry what's this thread about again?

I'm constantly thinking about this and I can't stop myself and it depresses the fuck out of me.

Damn this thread got dark.

I mean, we're getting to the point that the older NES games are about 30 years old.

Super Mario Kart will be able to drink Alcohol in 9 months. NUEVE MONTHS. FROM NOW. GLUG GLUG MODE 7.

Listening to the This Year 2012 podcasts...

Ryan's line of the year for me is "Give me that Horsey Sauce! I'll ride it straight to hell!"

You need to realize that you have a very particular viewpoint of what the self, the consciousness is. There is currently an emerging line of research in the cognitive sciences called "embodied cognition" that goes into detail how our sense of self is not just = brain but is more of a relational entity.

I would strongly recommend reading a book called "The Mind's I: fantasies and reflections on self and soul". This is a collection of small stories/thought experiments by some very famous philosophers of mind who all in an entertaining manner provide their unique take on what "self" is. The stories/thought experiments can be all read independent of each other. If you don't have time going through all the stories then I would recommend reading the story titled "Fiction" by Robert Nozick, "An Unfortunate Dualist" By Raymond Smullyan, and "The Riddle of the Universe and Its Solution" by Christopher Cheriak; all in the book.

The Mind's I is completely accessible and I believe you or anyone else interested in expanding their horizons about the nature of self will find it an entertaining read. For a more scientific/technical take on the topic read "I am a strange loop" by Hofstadter, "Radical Embodied Cognition" by Chemero, or "Supersizing the mind" by Andy Clark. But I would recommend reading the mind's I before these other three books.

Any of you guys interested in joining my cult? We totally, like, expand your mind's eye and shit. It's cool. $50 joining fee.

can i summon a persona

I originally started out on IRC, talking to all the people who got me into games writing

let's see

SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO

If you need me I'll be in bed, whimpering under the covers.

At least you are not living at the same place where you see all the people you knew as little kids are now grown up...

I'm in a room filled with old people. Stop trying to make me feel old through osmosis. :(

Anarchy Reigns TNT is sure to make my blood boil, but it's good that game's getting exposure.

Seems like I'm missing out on content you guys are always talking about. Do they stream throughout the week? Or are you referring to stuff only subscribers to their site can access?

You should not be afraid of mortality but rather cherish it for this is one true egalitarian force on this planet. It doesn't matter if you are the rich or poor, powerful or powerless, good or bad, one day everyone is going to die. The clock is ticking for everyone. There is no institution more utopian than death. It ought to bring a sense of peace rather than fear and despair in your heart.

Whoa there. What wormhole did you fall out of, Mr. Random NeoGAF-philosopher-man?

Dying means you sleep forever and you don't have to worry about all the other problems of the world. Yes, you'll lose all your loved ones and you'll probably leave a hole where you used to be but that's inevitable. At least you don't have to worry about dying in an accident anymore.

Sleeping implies dreaming. You don't dream when you're dead, you're dead.

What does "ironically good" EVEN MEAN? I blame Patrick for this nonsense.
"so bad/trashy it's good"

From all the footage I've seen, Anarchy Reign just looks kinda straightforward bad.

I know this has been asked a lot recently but I'm not clear on the answer. What is the deal with the suddenly horrible video playback on this site? Video is constantly choppy no matter which option I pick, aside from YouTube. And I don't want to watch YouTube.

This is happening on Safari at home, and Firefox at work.
