EVO 2K13 Player's Choice: Donate money to breast cancer and get your favorite game in

EVO 2014, you decide the games this year because fuck it there's a lot of games, so pick a few good ones that you might like. For cancer research.

you sound bitter about DOA5 not being there.

Prior to 2013 EVO lineup announcement, people expected only 6 games and instead we got 7 confirmed games and a player choice.

And people still bitch about it? Holy shit.

I mean all the "duh" choices were chosen.

1) SF4
2) Marvel
3) Tekken
4) Anime
5) MK/Injustice
6) KOF

On the other hand, I don't see it being anything but a circus, and I'm not sure that's something I'd want Evo to potentially be associated with.

You don't want the fgc associated with something that is more or less a giant troll or at least a giant bandwagon that went way too far?

Which fgc have you been watching? MLP is perfect for EVO.

EVO 2014, featuring Shaq Fu as the main event, with a side tournament of Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City speedruns.

Yeah, somehow I completely forgot that.

LOL throwing MLP or Smash in will be like the polar ice caps melting.

get real

It wouldn't really. Since A) Smash has been to Evo and B) Almost every game on the roster is considered a joke by some subsection in the FGC.

Maybe the vast majority of the DOA fan community stays on the internet, but maybe some of players who went to EVO for SF or Marvel also play DOA and enter the DOA tournament. It's a plausible scenario. That is unless the entrants in a particular game's tournament are required to be a card carrying member of that game's community.

EVO 2K6 had guaranteed cash prizes for every game, I believe. I tried searching and can't remember, but I believe it was the year EVO was sponsored by some car company. Even with that, people still didn't show up or enter DoA4. I don't see why DoA5 would be any different. It would probably have more entrants than DoA4 by virtue of there being more people showing up to EVO now than years past, but that doesn't mean much for a game that had less than 100 entrants.

I'm salty at no SC5, but I get it. Still, I'm entering 4 games. That's going to be rough. :( lol.

Hoping for no 8am pools.

Because the point of the fighting game community isn't to watch good players, it's getting people to play. The whole spectacle side is something more recent. Before 2008 pretty much everybody that wanted to watch fighting game players were people that entered tournaments. Numbers don't really matter, just dedication. Rotanibor puts on Vampire Savior side tournaments at EVO, and I'm pretty sure it's because he wants to get VS players together, not just have insane hype moments.

Indeed, priorities are changing a bit. I believe this is "esports" in a nutshell.

I just think EVO should hold all or as many as the most popular fighting games with dedicated scenes. The six or eight biggest competitive games are ones in the EVO main tournament, period. Maybe make a few exceptions for variety and games that might overlap too much (e.g. Don't have both Tekken 6 and TTT2, make sure to have at least one 3D fighting game). At the same time there should be as many side-tournaments as possible so everyone gets to play everything. However I don't like the influence of money is beginning to have. In this case, it is the organizers of EVO using the tournament for a noble cause at the expense of its integrity.

MLP? Please, if they think that's going to piss off the EVO crowd, they're going about it all wrong.

Put all your money behind Brawl for the true upset vote.

I could see the clueless, impotent Sony execs making some big donation to try and further shoehorn PSASBR into the FGC, unfortunately.

But Melee deserves it.
