Just finished Asura's Wrath
's ending DLC
and am now firing up Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden. GB is doing weird things to my gamings.

GB accidental stalker post for the day

Patrick posted a 47 minute audio file for transcription on Amazon Mechanical Turk

Only 25 dollars? WHERE IS THAT CBSI MONEY KLEPTOK

also, just leaving the dropbox link there? c'mon now

I bet it doesn't pay THAT great. I mean it's journalism.

Oh man okay so I'm kind of drunk and I read the post before as in Patrick was doing amazon turk stuff for 25 bucks like a supplemental income. This makes so much more sense now.

$25 for a 47 minute transcription doesnt seem that bad. It should only take what? A hour and a half to do? Maybe 2 hours if you are crap at formatting as you go.

Seems like a nice way for some college student to make some beer money.

What game was Brad playing in that Wake Up Club video?

Devil May Cry?

I was totally confused by what was happening but now I think I get it. Alright no where near as weird as I was thinking.

Looks like it plus people were saying the same thing in during the mailbag video.

checking it again it it definitely looks like DmC plus thats the only thing i remember being out next week in regards to a retail game.

For some reason I thought the character looked like Lightning and somehow there was a preview build of FF13-3 going around or something. lol

Here you go, Ryan. I know you wanted it.

You've probably never transcribed before, then? It can take painstakingly long if you want to do it right. I haven't listened to the interview so I don't know what the tempo of speech is, but it can easily take a whole bunch of hours to transcribe stuff properly. You can almost never type as fast as people are speaking for prolonged periods of time, so you have to constantly type, pause, type more, pause again, and sometimes listen back to stuff.

Personally I run it through audacity and playback at about 80%-70% speed but even then it takes fucking forever. Transcribing an hour-long interview I did with multiple participants took half a day :/

Yeah, slowing it down usually helps, but it's still absolutely terrible work. I mean, the end result can be great if the interview's great, but it's definitely not something you can do quickly in an hour or two.

(Love the interviews you're doing on the site Patrick, so if this is a way to get them up faster: hell yeah, go ahead and do it. There's probably better ways for you to spend an entire day besides just spending it all on transcribing stuff.)

Actually I did it a few times and I would normally slow down the recording 20-30% when doing it.

It's horrible, boring work though

"It was gross how they use the chick in the Cyberpunk trailer"

Wah... Patrick Wah..

One thing is fanservice for the sake of fanservice and another is setting the mood of the world/story.

Yeah, it was pretty obvious the trailer was going for a juxtaposition of sexuality followed by grossness, rather than sex for the sake of sex.

There's a lot of fucked up stuff in this industry, but looking for issues where there aren't none isn't really helping.

If you can do it in about 2 hours it's above minimum wage (iirc that's something like $7).

Patrick was talking about this on the podcast, he was getting frustrated after transcribing for two hours because the sound quality of his recording was so bad. But even if the sound quality were good, $25 is an absolutely teeeeeriiiible salary for this kind of work (but par for the course on Mechanical Turk, where it's a race to the bottom on who can do more tedious work for less).

Yeah, I didn't quite get Patrick's criticism of the Cyberpunk trailer. Also didn't think it was really that egregious in that regard either anyway.

Ugh. Late last year while others complained about problems watching videos on GB I had no issues, but ever since the first of the year I can't either. It's awful. Even downloading the video to watch later takes hours. I could watch the videos on Youtube I guess, but then why do I pay $50/yr for this?

When are they making this supposed server change?

Supposed to be by the end of this month.

OPEN YOUR HEART

Hilarious ending, if only because another stream I was watching was lingering on the main menu of Sonic Adventure. Spooky as fuuuuck.

After watching a bunch of videos with the guys playing with TrackIR and Vinny's flight stick, I'm considering purchasing a flight stick of my own and a TrackIR. That fluid head tracking just looks crazy awesome. Let's say I know I will never get heavy into sims but there are some space flight game coming that I'd be interested in, maybe some mech games, does anyone know what would be the best flight stick for say under $150?

I have gone back and forth on getting a track ir for over a year now. I'm probably going to get one real soon.

I also put way too much time into Warthog.

As for cheap joysticks if you don't want to go too extreme hotas, I got a Logitech Attack 3 and it serves me real good, it was only 15 bucks or so. Apparently they don't sell those anymore and the only thing they do sell is the little more expensive Logitech 3d Pro. It's still only 30 bucks so it's not too bad. Although at that point you can just spend 20 bucks more and get a cheap hotas like the THRUSTMASTER X or whatever it's called for $50. Most other hotas are way more expensive though. Also I have no clue how good the THRUSTMASTER X is, but it looks kind of cheap and uncomfortable.

Maybe look at the Saitek x52? That was the one I was trying to convince myself to buy a few years ago. I really don't know much about it past the amazon reviews though.
