Fighting games. Can't be convinced they're more than button mashers. Although Smash Bros was fun for a while, but the Street Fighter type just seem like button mashers.

Will watch when I get home.

Because most PC set ups are designed to be tabletop set ups still. Comfy couch gaming has a point, only an extremely small minority of people, enthusiasts really, hook up their PCs to HDTVs first of all, and even less in open spaces.

It's also why PC gaming (not like console gaming does much of this either nowadays) skews more towards single player and online multiplayer games than local multiplayer games.

Normally I'm not happy when it comes to nerfs, but I'm pretty damn happy seeing Cody's crouching lk get hit as hard as it did. Fucking god he was annoying.

I would say it's thread worthy. Could always use more threads to reinforce to people that the platform holders are the reason why DLC the bad rep it gets.
Which is why I hope so hard that DSIV is next gen. Capcom is Capcpom every once in a while, but they are trying harder on their DLC policies. Half of the industry for DD gaming sucks at the moment, though and that just can't be ignored when it comes to fighters. I'm hoping for big improvements on Microsoft's part next gen.
MS has arcane rules on patching in general, but really most games (including other indies) never have this issue or feel the need to do so. It's like SG devs -just like the core product- went out of their way to do and say more than the distribution model they chose supports. Skullgirls should have always been a PC game.
I've been feeling more and more like this should have been the case, but this is a fighter. They are aware that the primary audience is on consoles. That just can't be ignored when making a fighting game.

In the end... I feel like this game's potential has always lied with Japan and the PC market. I believe they'd sell at least three times the amount they have so far between those two imo.
If you think that PC is a good primary medium for FGs, you're vastly out of touch with the average/baseline/casual customer.
It is slowly getting there. The problem lies with publishers not putting their product on the platform in the first place rather than the PC platform itself.

I would like to see one of the big three enable "Donate" as a price point for DLC. Give developers the option to let me pay what I want. It might be oddly successful for something like Skullgirls.

Just tangentially related, but something I find interesting with regards to balance:

In traditional game design, nerfing is safer, easier, and more effective than buffing. When you nerf one thing, you are sure that problem is taken care of. The danger is that the character is now too weak, which is not catastrophic.

If one character is too strong, and you want to balance the game through buffing, you need to buff everyone who is not up to par to that characters level. This not only takes much more work, but also creates a situation where you may accidentally over-buff other characters, which then puts you in the exact same situation you started with.

Usually in other games the loyalty is to factions, not units, or classes- which makes things a little different.

The problem with nerfs in fighters is that if you solely nerf, you make a character more boring. I think the proper way to nerf is usually to give the character a mediocre new tool that's interesting more than useful, so folks who are hard into the characters will stick with them.

She really didn't get touched. I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up being more popular, always thought she was really good to begin with.

she was definitely solid. One of the few tekken characters that had a solid AA. Her normals were solid, her overhead was good but not abuse-able, and her damage was average.

The only thing she lacked was a reversal (her tiger knee doesn't hit crouching), and that she used meter like no tomorrow. That rich girl spending.

I personally think making She hulk, and tron shittier, doom, and zero better are far worse. I agree though. Hsien-Ko shouldn't even be on the roster. Horrible execution with that character. Same with Ghost Rider.
Hsien-Ko robbed Q-Bee of her deserved spot.
Q-Bee's transformations and crazy stretching probably knocked her out of the running in the first round. Look at her command grab, standing heavy punch, her stagewide bee sting, etc. It's no surprise that Lei Lei made it instead. She probably would have turned out crap anyway. Lei Lei was one of the last characters revealed so it's not like they had all the time and money to work on her or Sent. That can have a lasting impact and I bet it would have hurt Q-Bee or any Darkstalker being made so late in the game.

In short, even Sasquatch, Zombie or Talbain would have been way worse than usual given the amount of time they had left to spend on the final Darkstalker character in vanilla MvC3.

Sony would be the most likely one to do such a thing. I'd be okay with it so long as they had DLC tiers of some sort and a minimum donation floor. I'm not cool with the idea of people donating 1 cent for anything that people worked hard on.

I absolutely disagree.
Morrigan, Felicia and Hsien-Ko are a popular trio. If it wasn't going to be her, then it was going to be B. B. Hood. No matter what. (Demitri, who I use, would've been just been a "shoto-clone" and yes, Morrigan is one too, but she has tits.)

I've been rooting for Lei-Lei ever since Morrigan and Felicia were announced, despite the fact I knew I would hate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

My fucking face when I played as her. Goddamn.

I meant in her current state she shouldn't even be on the roster. She deserves the spot, but not bottom tier trash. She deserves better. Felicia and Morrigan are great in mvc3.

C->R would've been a neat looking Level 3. And her IADs seem like a perfect fit for the game.

Woah julia fucking sucks ass now in 2013. She was one of the best characters now she's shit. DROPPED LIKE A ROCK

Shout outs to half her legs going through their bodies but the hitbox not even touching yet now.

Guess I can pick up asuka now :P

But Felicia sucks

I really want to say Hsien-Ko is Roll-tier, but at least she has a decent, if not, great assist, AFTER she's powered-up though.

But, damn, she's close and it sucks.

Yeah, it would have been okay, I guess. It just irks me a bit to see Darkstalkers' gameplay moving from lightning fast to molasses because they've gotta have 5-7 second long cutscenes for level 3s. Her IAD stuff is on a whole other level if done right, though.

Sick, my work visa got confirmed today. Looks like I'm moving to socal next week. This means I can make it to SCR :3~~~

edit: Grecco, I usually stay here for EVO http://www.comfortinn.com/hotel-las_vegas-nevada-NV048?source=gglocaljn

When it was at Caesar's, it was a walkable distance but offered a free shuttle in the morning/day. Paris is even closer, though.

So yeah, maybe a 30 minute walk give or take, and I'm sure they can drop you off relatively close during the day. Much cheaper than the big hotels, and there are some great places to eat nearby for cheap.

*pours out a 40 for losing a GTA-FGC-GAF member*

Also didn't Mr. Wizard say something about Paris Hotel being cheaper than what they've had in the past few years?

What if he got the Hsien-KO treatment?
No character is safe from getting Hsien-Ko'd.

That spot should have gone to Anakaris.

Maybe, I'm pretty cheap though so I stay at a comfort inn using a friend's employee discount. 20 bucks a night? hell yeah

I'm only in socal until May, then I'm back up here. I should be back living in Toronto by September, too :3

But Felicia sucks

Only because Nitsuma's "I want to get rid of runaway" promise didn't get fulfilled, Hidden Missiles, and Vergil aka I ruin this game like Strider ruined MVC1 destroy her whole gameplan. As a character she has the tools, and okay mixups I guess, but when the top characters of the cast does your job better and then some then there's a problem.

I hate that fly is too strong in this game.

That spot should have gone to Anakaris.

I don't think this game needs another modok awkward to handle type character. Nitsuma probably would of made him even worse.

Online numbers is a bad indication of how much copies a fighting game has sold. And both football manager and farming simulator are games that can be played with a mouse. The fundamental problem of getting fighting games accessible to PC gamers remain: who would want to play it on a keyboard? Would people buy gamepads and sticks just to play fighting game on them?

i play sf4 on a keyboard even though i have a wired xbox 360 controller
