Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

I have gone back and forth on getting a track ir for over a year now. I'm probably going to get one real soon.

I also put way too much time into Warthog.

As for cheap joysticks if you don't want to go too extreme hotas, I got a Logitech Attack 3 and it serves me real good, it was only 15 bucks or so. Apparently they don't sell those anymore and the only thing they do sell is the little more expensive Logitech 3d Pro. It's still only 30 bucks so it's not too bad. Although at that point you can just spend 20 bucks more and get a cheap hotas like the Thrustmaster X or whatever it's called for $50. Most other hotas are way more expensive though.

Thanks, those price points seems very reasonable. I'm sure the TrackIR is a waste for someone like me but it just looks so cool, I really want to try it out.

Maybe look at the Saitek x52? That was the one I was trying to convince myself to buy a few years ago. I really don't know much about it past the amazon reviews though.

Yeah, I'll check that out too. I saw that mentioned in another flight stick thread as a quality, relatively affordable choice.

Oooo, you might have just sold me on one.

Yeah I tried to go cheap since I had a friend buy a nicer one ($200ish bucks) and then it just sat on his desk for like 3 years. I figure if you're not completely sure, go cheap and if you like it you got some use out of it then there are relatively few bucks lost if you upgrade. Also I don't know anything past some of the cheaper stuff lol.

I've got a Saitek X52 and I really like it. Nothing I can think of to complain about, it feels great and has a whole load of buttons within reach of your fingers and thumbs. The only thing you have to think about is whether you want a set of rudder pedals, which I'm still planning to buy one day. Without rudder pedals you have to twist the flight stick to yaw, which isn't ideal, but a set of rudder pedals costs as much as a HOTAS setup so I haven't made the jump yet.

I believe Drew bought a CH Products set of stick, throttle and rudder pedals, and those sound really good, too. The CH Products sticks don't have twisty rudders, though, so if you want to yaw you need to buy the pedals.

I also bought a TrackIR 5, and I think it's absolutely amazing, but I haven't used it so much because I haven't thought of a good way to attach it to my head. It comes with two clips, one that goes onto the peak of a baseball cap and another that's supposed to clip onto the side of your headphones, but my head's too big for caps and too sweaty to fly with headphones on.

Yeah I heard of the CH Products sticks as well. I'll have to really think about it. The feeling will probably pass because it would be quite an investment for just a handful of games but right now, I really want give it a try.

If you guys are trying to put together a flight sim setup on the cheap, check out FreeTrack. It's the opensource alternative to TrackIR. All you need is a webcam and a IR emitter for your headset/hat (I think people sell DIY ones on ebay).

I tried my friend's setup and it seemed to work pretty well.

Just finished up The Walking Dead. Is there anywhere else where they talk about the game in a spoiler-cast kind of way except for the GOTY casts?

What is this 'Shogo was never a good game' nonsense? Shogo was awesome and better than most FPSs, better than Sin for sure.

Oh man I loved Septerra Core at the time.

I haven't watched The Zodiac Tournament QL just yet but I saw the Nightmare DLC one, I can't decide which to get.

Anyone played both and have a recommendation?

The Zodiac Tournament is literally 5 or 6 fights. The Zodiac Tournament QL should instead be named an Endurance Run since it was finished during the video, and half of it was just Vinny screwing around in the vanilla game.

Any idea if there's a premium show today?

Let me consult the subscribers page: https://auth.giantbomb.com/upgrade/

Exclusive Content Every Day
Whether it’s the occasional live podcast, throwback video game coverage, or a spontaneous live show, we've always got something going on.

Then it shows pictures of Jar Time, Random PC game, Dave's Radio Show, and Behind the Scenes videos.

So yeah I mean if they do something like that everyday for subscribers then there will totally be one today!

Man, the SeaSerpent site is like a glimpse into the jaws of madness. The appearance of a real site with occasional complete bullshit. The 'recently released games' and all the pictures being Simpsons stills cracked me up.

Haha, I didn't know GiantBomb is still falsely advertising daily premium content. I thought that claim was removed some months ago - apparently not.

For how heavily and regularly this was criticised on GAF, and the fact that the GB crew seems to read this thread, it's amazing they still haven't removed this blatant lie.

Have they said yet when they expect SeaSerpent to go live to everyone?

End of the month. Unfortunately, non-subs won't get to experience the madness, because when it goes live it'll be the real site and not a playground for people to mess around in.

On a somewhat related note, did anyone notice that they took down the $15 donation thing on their store?

Did this happen when they split from WM? I could have sworn it was still up a while ago.

I wonder if Patrick ever built that PC he was talking about. I wouldn't mind seeing some Spookin' with Scoops featuring newer, more atmospheric games.

That's scolding?

Plenty of people have complained about not getting any answer back from GiantBomb support - contacting Dave on Twitter was a common suggestion for quite a while. It's certainly a strange answer considering the very obvious issues people were experiencing.

On his Tumblr, Jeff Gerstmann feigned ignorance on knowing about any support issues at GB a while ago - instead of investigating the issue, he basically scolded the person that didn't get any answer back from their support e-mail.

I would say you're blowing Jeff's response way out of proportion.

netBuff - Internet crusader.

I'm not a company offering bad customer service and claiming to produce daily premium content while not delivering. Bad attitudes towards customers deserve to be highlighted, GiantBomb (which isn't an internet startup but part of a pretty sizeable corporation) is no different from any other business.

Remember when there was a stream like every Friday. That was cool.

wow, its been so long i had actually totally forgotten that they used to do that. kind of makes me wonder why i am still subscribing (i think most of the 'premium' content is available free on twitch.tv or justin.tv or whatever it is anyway?)

oh wait i forgot i get access to the beta site with polls in the livestreams that are on at 1am in my timezone. costs vindicated

It's not, only TNT is which is free during the stream anyway

I think he meant the member live streams (Breaking Brad etc) which are, unfortunately, easily accessible to non-members.

Jar Time, Random PC Game and Load My Last save are not accessible via twitch etc as far as I know. Those are the best stuff too.

Shame random pc game and load my last save have basically died.

I'm sure random pc game will comeback when dave gets more free time post site launch. He was already talking about another blade runner episode in one of the live streams last week.

They never promised daily premium content. They did promise premium content every Friday though, and I'm certainly starting to feel that something is "off" with GiantBomb lately.
