Literally can compose a greatest hits using only this album if you ask me.

Almost. Don't Look Back is pretty good (from the 2nd album) and Cool the Engines from the 3rd (which took like 10 years to make). But yeah, add those two songs to the first album and maybe Amanda from the 3rd, and you have their greatest hits.

My favorite album of the 2000's... and I pretty much avoid the rest of their catalog.

This record is meant to be played start to finish. The songs by themselves don't really stand out, but as a record? It's fucking awesome. It's got a one of a kind sound, too. Even Cursive couldn't replicate it, lol.

Hey, here is the full album start to finish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5uLleCmm6k

do you at least like Album of the Year?

This album was fucking fantastic when it came out. Then, all their other albums were boring shite. Such a shame.

Agree this was their best album... But my listening experience is ruined by the Pitchfork review that pointed out that all their song hooks has the singer dragging out a single syllableeeeeeeeeeee.

I love The Deftones' White Pony album. I don't otherwise like The Deftones, but man...that album's my absolute favorite album ever and has been since high school.
Me too.

A Perfect Circle thread? I think so.

I need this kind of Maynard. Where did you go? Why did you do Emotive? Please come back...please?
When it comes down to it, APC was just a bunch of stuff that Billy Howerdel had ready to go with guitar stuff he'd been working on since his teens. Maynard was his housemate at the time, liked what he heard and threw some vocals on top of what he had - but they signed a 3 record deal. Thirteenth Step (which I liked) was just sort of thrown together, and Emotive was just to fulfil the contractual obligation.

If they announced new APC, I'd look forward to it but I wouldn't expect it to be of the standards of either Tool or Puscifer. Both of the latter projects seem to fit and adapt better to Maynard and hold my interest longer.

I like singles off their other albums, but nothing comes close to this one. One of the most complete albums of all time. Fantastic stuff

Wow, I came here to post exactly this. Love this album, it's brilliant, touching, transcendental. But every other Cursive album is the complete antithesis of this: whiny, grating and boring.

Is This It by The Strokes. One of the all time greats imo.

Their other albums range from decent to mediocre. Makes me sad

Room on Fire is a fantastic record.

I find Interpol's debut album to be a fantastic one, but their others are borderline unlistenable.

Unlistenable? I've always loved Antics. I just recently started listening to Our Love to Admire, which I dismissed upon first listen when it came out. It's awesome. Their self-titled album sucks, though.

I can agree with this. Great album, while the second one was only maybe half good. Their third album was nearly unlistenable, save maybe 1 or 2 songs.

Since I seem to be standing up for sophomore releases in this thread, I'll defend You Could Have It So Much Better. Just as good as the first, if not better. The third album sucks.

One of the best alternative and shoegaze albums ever released, and also one of the forgotten masterpieces from the 90's. Lyrics and production wise easily surpasses Nirvana's Nevermind and In Utero.

Antics is still a very very good album, just seems bad in comparison to their debut which is god damn amazing.

Interpol got a lot of shit back in the day for "sounds like Joy Division LOL" (which they never did), but I have to admit Turn on the Bright Lights is like a top 10 for me.

That's my question too, lateralus is like aenima but better

Yeah. Lateralus has been on my regular rotation for a few years straight now. Incredible album.

To the OP, Natalie Merchant's Tiger Lilly is an amazing album. But I couldn't get into any of her other solo work. (I'm excluding the amazing 10,000 Maniacs albums, just looking at her solo stuff.)

So I'm going through all my music from freshman year... and there's so much stuff here that just dropped off the radar entirely. Tokyo Police Club, Elefant, Q and not U, etc. Remember when music was just people redoing the Strokes?
