Lance Armstrong plans to admit doping to Oprah (USA Today)

Were any of the non-guilty ones ever suspected of doping?

Quick google search showed Evans has had a few accusations thrown his way but nothing to prove them and people seem to have his back and Wiggins is a pretty vocal against doping and the Armstrong scandal.

Which careers and lives did he destroy? As far as I know they were all riding the gravy train.

Happens all the time, but you always have people coming out of the woodwork once accusations about someone comes out. If it was so important to them, why not say something before he's accused of doping? People trying to become famous by shitting on people close to them. It wasn't as if Lance was the only one with access to the drugs, taking them, or having people hide them.

“You made a mistake when you testified against Ferrari… I can destroy you,” Simeoni says Armstrong told him. Armstrong forced Simeoni back to the peloton, with a sinister “zip the lips gesture” that was replayed constantly on television, though at the time commentators claimed to have no idea what it really meant.

Tyler Hamilton:

"“When you’re on the witness stand, we are going to fucking tear you apart. You are going to look like a fucking idiot.” Hamilton further testified that Armstrong said, “I’m going to make your life a living… fucking… hell,” according to the USADA papers."

Levi Leipheimer and his wife:

"Leipheimer recalled a dinner with Armstrong in which the Texan sent a text message to his wife Odessa randomly that said “run don’t walk,” and that while riding for RadioShack, a team Armstrong helped found, he received various comments from team staff, such as “I never forget. One day I will pay back.”"

Betsy & Frankie Andreu:

"The Armstrong camp characterized Betsy Andreu as “vindictive,” “bitter,” and “vengeful,” in the media and Armstrong sent Frankie Andreu an e-mail in December 2003, reminding him that “by helping to bring me down is not going to help y’alls situation at all. there (sic) is a direct link to all of our success here and i (sic) suggest you remind her of that,”

Prentice Steffen:

"“Due to Mr. Armstrong’s stature within the sport of cycling, the management of the TIAA-CREF team ultimately concluded that if they did not remove Dr. Steffen from his position with the team that the TIAA-CREF team might suffer repercussions. As a consequence, Dr. Steffen was removed from the team for a period of time,”

Jonathan Vaughters:

"Slipstream has also received phone calls from Armstrong “suggesting” that Vaughters, whose text messages regarding doping were used as evidence in the SCA hearings, should no longer be employed."

Don't forget Floyd Landis. Lance accused him of being a "liar, thief, and drug addict"

And when he told Greg Lemond "I will do everything in my power to destroy you." And then six months later Trek suddenly discontinues Lemond's line of bicycles, and introduce livestrong edition bikes in their place.

The man bullied everyone he could using any source of leverage he could find.

He was the fucking ringleader of the whole scheme, not just some random dude caught up in it.

I've never watched cycling, but deep down, I kinda hoped that the accusations against him were wrong.

So much for that. =p

But he raised awareness man. AWARENESS! Nobody had heard of cancer before LiveStrong told us about the dangers. We should be thankful he enlightened us all.

You're right he should have
1. Not doped
2. Lost the Tour to riders who did dope
3. Never become famous for winning
4. Never start a organization to improve the lives of people with cancer

So it's ok to lie, deal drugs, break the law, commit fraud, lie under oath, bully/intimidate/slander others, all the while making an obscene amount of money based on lies and criminal activity, as long as some amount of good comes from it?

So, in your mind, the ends justify the means? The witness intimidation, the systemic doping, the bad behavior?

He cheated, and then bullied anyone would would dare reveal his cheating. He ruined people's careers, and got fat off the endorsements.

Total garbage. Especially when you read about how he dealt with pretty much everyone he encountered.

No, but please cry more about how "The French" are persecuting you and on a witchhunt.

Where's that Oprah closing a book and squinting .gif that POP-GAF uses? Because that's the best first reply to this topic that should've been made.

Anyway, Lance's systematic doping and then intimidating people that were going to expose it to keep his endorsements is way beyond a Oprah apology for me. I hope she tells him on air to take his apology and cram it up his ass. But in a more polite fashion.

Guy is a massive scumbag. If he never got into cycling I imagine he would have been some kind of con artist, taking away old people's pension cheques.

I spent almost a decade running a bicycle shop that was one of the top 20 largest trek dealers in the country. As such I was invited to a private function every year. Four of those years Lance Armstrong was there. He was incredibly rude to everyone, every single year. John Burke, Trek's CEO had to apologize to us two years in a row for how much of a dick Armstrong was to everyone.

Lance only cared about himself and those who could help him.

The fact that he was so revered for so long while doing all of this is like the ultimate sociopath wet dream.

This is announcing he's going to announce what he's going to announce in an announcement. He doesn't even need to go on Oprah now, if he announced that he plans to announce he was doping.

I can't begin to imagine how awkward this will be. And of all the places to do a public apology/confession, he picks Oprah?

Perfect avenue for Lance to continue his charade. Just like the guy who wrote that book that was suppose to be a true story and it was all fake. Lance wants to desperately stay relevant and he is hoping for idiots to be sympathetic to his stupid little bracelets. I predict you will be seeing a lot of those fucking bracelets.

He was the AIG of cycling.... "Too big to fail"

I refused to stock the Livestrong bikes, or put up any of the marketing materials about Lance Armstrong or the Tour and used to get the angriest phone calls from Trek about it. They once threatened to reduce my volume discount for not being a "brand ambassador for Armstrong and Livestrong."

After that I started ordering bikes from other companies more often. It just goes to show that he had incredible leverage over the situation because there was so much money tied up in the myth of Lance.

Yeah, he should have, if he wanted to be a decent human being, not a power hungry asshole.

Why the need for the big interview? He should have just admitted to it when it was first hinted that he was cheating and he would be in a better place right now.

Because Oprah will pay him $.

You're right he should have
1. Not doped
2. Lost the Tour to riders who did dope
3. Never become famous for winning
4. Still started a organization to improve the lives of people with cancer
Fixed that up for you, you don't have to win the TdF to help people.

Oprah is a pushover.

The only reason she grilled James Frey was because she picked his stupid book for her book club and made her look like an idiot.

The interview will be a joke.

I really wanted to come in here and say something along a "who cares!!" line, but people are so sensitive about this guy, why bother.

I wish people would just stop caring and move on.

That's a pretty damn misleading image. When most of them are the same 3-4 people then of course it will make it looked skewed. Armstrong counts for like half of the positive results alone because of all his wins. That image sucks.

He's doing this because he's about to get sued by everyone and he's going to lose a lot of money. Need to make this publicity stunt so he can get a good book deal for his confession.

I wish people would just stop caring and move on.

So you're basically just saying who cares but is afraid of getting banned for it? Why do you feel the need to come into a thread and post who cares? Read the fucking sticky btw.

I really wanted to come in here and say something along a "How on earth did you miss this sticky that's been up there for weeks?" line, so I am.

When he gives back all he has taken then go to fucking TV and make money off your sob story.

What a fucking fraud.

so how did they find him out years after he had won? it also sucks that he's getting paid to basically be on oprahs show.

He was a ring-leader of doping, took the best drugs, and made millions off of it. Stop being a dumbass

"Its not like he was the only one..." is one of the shittier counter-argument techniques you can use.

As for Armstrong, fuck him. He's a bully and a sociopath and he deserves every bit of disdain headed his way. Oprah better grill him about every sordid detail she possibly can in the allotted time, because if he comes out of this interview looking like anything other than the piece of shit he is for the sake of her ratings, then she can go to hell too.
