I remember trying EVERYTHING to see if I could get Jirachi to come out of the white rock by the space center. Or if the rocket ship would somehow unlock some sort of Deoxys event

Most obscure stuff they had that gen was the island with Wynauts that had a 1 in 65,000 odds of appearing every day for each Pokemon you showed to an old lady.

Hah I remember the day my sister randomly gave me a charmander card and I had no idea wtf it was or that it was part of a video game series.

I still became obsessed with it anyway.

It's kinda sad how the internet has made gaming less fun in regards to going in blind.

I doubt I would've bought AND enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 if I'd had Gaf back when I bought it.

The first time I ever heard about pokemon was some kid had the card Onix. I remember those old commercials for "Hooked on phonics" so I thought they were cards that taught you how to read.

I didn't think much of it, still really was oblivious to it all.

Until my dad somehow struck up a conversation with some other dad at the public pool. We were then offered some of his kids duplicate cards and energies to see what it was all about. Needless to say I was hooked. Shortly after I got into the anime, but I didn't have a gameboy yet.

I asked for one for christmas, plus a pokemon game to go with it. My grandpa got me Pokémon Puzzle Challenge but I still didn't even have a gameboy >.< The following year I finally got one, and gold was my first game. Afterwards I went back and played Blue version.

Oh god, all those stupid rumours about Mew that got passed around at school. I tried SO MANY.

In the end I got one when I was walking down the road one day and this boy with a GB randomly asked if I liked pokemon.

I said I did so he gave me his mew.

lol Your first "pokemon event" I guess? xD

Well, I remember that one kid had a Jirachi and in order just to tell me how to obtain it, I gave him a quite rare Rayquaza card. I thought it was obtainable like the Regis but instead he told me about Pokemon Channel... And I didn't even have a NGC. I was really sad about that. :(

Oh man, the day I got Gold was glorious. I'd never owned blue or red or yellow, just borrowed them (largely from people who wouldn't let me save).
And then my birthday came and BAM Gold with it's fancy, fancy boxart. I'd never even asked for it. Was an amazing birthday.

Haha, I've never thought of it like that before. Was a wierd experience though.

I was so paranoid about trading cards. There was one time though that this guy offered me a mewtwo and everyone kept telling me it was fake but I traded anyway because it looked so cool.

Turns out it was a promo card.

JOKES ON THEM.

(I think I still have it somewhere...)

Holy shit I remember that rumor.

It went like, if you get the the space center or whatever by so many hours you can go to space and catch a special ditto. You could then bring it back to earth and it would be a Deoxys. But if you took it to the white rock it would become a Jirachi...

how did that ever get started... I was about to mention this rumor I hadn't know others knew about it as it was pre-internet for me.

The more I think about it, the more I'm curious why they revealed these games now. Do they plan to have cards, movies, manga, etc, dealing with X/Y elemens leading up to release? Are they planning nearly a year of continuous hype with a steady release of details? Hmm...
This happens with every pokemon game.

OMG

.......

HOW DARE YOU >_>

I just realized that a simultaneous worldwide launch means we won't actually know all the version exclusives.
Hopefully these games go the BW route and the second version has the better exclusives (imo)

I won't buy X, so if that has better exclusives it's gonna be a real downer :(

Haha this reminds me that particular Mew card that looked really weird. A friend had it but I never realized how special it was. Yeah, it must feel really good to have such rare cards! The Rayquaza I mentioned before was promo too. :(

It probably got started because the white rock had a special message that would appear if you pressed A by it. Usually things in Pokemon games don't do that unless they have a purpose, especially coming from the old Gameboy versions where they were limited on space.

Kind of like the truck in 1st gen, a lot of people saw the weird rock, the space station with a weird week-couting mechanic, and knew of the two space-based event legendaries and just put them all together to make sense of it all.

...or they could have just been reading things on the internet and claiming that they were the ones who figured it out because not many kids were using the internet yet. I had a guy try to tell me he found out that Celebi could appear on Route 121, and he was quite upset that I both knew about the serebiiforums thread and that the whole thing was bogus.

Hey guys did you know if you level Golduck to lv.100 with max friendship he will evolve into Cryduck, the Crystal Duck pokemon? It takes a lot of time and effort but it's worth it.

This guy at a hobby store told me once and it sounds legit.

Yeah, but then the trapped Steel-type uses Earthquake and LOL GOODBYE MAGNEZONE.

Would rather have Levitate.

The steel-types you tend to trap don't typically use Earthquake/Earthquake isn't strong enough to kill you.

Trust me, Levitate Magnezone wouldn't be that useful.

Too busy bringing Bill the legendary Kanto trio to somehow get Togepi... or was it Pikablu?

Ancient Mew? People went crazy over that in my school. I've never had Rayquaza though ): Kinda stopped collecting before Gen 3.

Also this has got me looking through my old pokemon cards and a horrible thought has just occured to me: I could literally spent thousands of pounds on pokemon cards if I wanted to.

My lv.267 Golduck was better anyway

It might've been the same guy that told me about Squirtle's fourth form that had seven tails.

People always got so pissed when you doubted their stupid rumors, too. Got to the point where you just had to tell them "Okay, buddy, I'll try it out".

I hope there's a trainer who is like an ancient Knights Templar or something, with a wyvern-style crest of Yveltal on his armor, and Yveltal as his Pokemon, lol.

Just imagine: The Order of Yveltal.

Or maybe "he" would be a her:

I have about 3-4 thousand cards. Most of them are gen 3 and gen 1, but I also have some of Platinum and HG/SS. And recently I've started collecting again and I've managed to gather about 500 gen v cards. Unfortunately, they cost too much especially in order to create a deck. Now I spend about 20€ every two months.

But yeah, with every new Pokemon game release my interest for that reignites.

I probably have about... 200 cards? including energies. I've not bought any in years though. It's not like I have anyone to play it with and it would be a waste of money
I am not doing a good job of convincing myself

Ugh I am nostalgia-ing over these cards so much. Original gen Pikachu is so ugly. Oh my gooooood, I used to have so many Rattata. ... suddenly Machops. Machops everywhere.

Shit, I really hope Nintendo makes a 3DS Pokemon Trading Card Game.... that uses Augmented Reality.

I just want to have a full set of the cards that Wizards of the Westcoast produced.

My brother and I used to collect the original Oddish cards when we were young, we even traded down for them. I think we had about thirty or forty before we stopped.

So, I went to Gamestop today and bought Pokemon White 2. The guy working told me was going through the regular "preorder this stuff" spiel, and then he mentioned X/Y.

I was like "already?"

So I preordered Y. Let's go.

About 1/10 of my cards are energies... :( And I have about twenty mudkips. They are my curse. D: Also, I really want a PTCG for 3DS... :(

I think I have quite many of the Base and the Jungle set. Ah, the original ones are really cool...
