It's based off of the Japanese myth. Doesn't count as a full blown Sabretoothed Tiger. Besides, by that logic we shouldn't be getting the frog or the fox pokemon.

It's design is still based on one, whether or not you think we should get a more authentic sabertooth pokemon rendition.

Well when she says things like Heracross, Scizor, and Broakie look bad it's kind of difficult not to question her taste. Especially when claiming Pinsir is better looking than Heracross.
As a grass pokemon he has an excuse. Also only badly designed part of Sceptile is his weird ass tail and maybe the crap on this back. Other than that I like him just as much as Blaziken.

My favorite bug types are: Heracross, Genesect, Galvantula, Scizor, Volcarona, Escvalier and Accelgor.
Gen V was gave us a ton of choice bug-types.

Your Pokémon are. How does that mouth work? Who knows, but it sure as hell is more intimidating than Heracross'.
Pinsir just looks like he wants to fuck shit up for no damn good reason. And that's awesome. Gyarados at least has the excuse that he was bullied until he evolved, no other Pokémon looks that damn evil.
Heracross and Scizor don't look bad, they just look bad compared to Pinsir and Scyther. Froakie looks... weird. And he looks like he'll evolve into something fat like Emboar or Rhyperior. Chestnut guy at least seems like he'll evolve into something interesting, and the fox seems like it'll evolve into something elegant.
And Sceptile's head is fucking stupid. The body is alright, but the head looks stupid.
Escavalier is that bug who looks like a knight? That guy is awesome too. Especially because he, like, steals the parts of another Pokémon to evolve.

Heracross can evolve into some dumb Bug/Poison thing with wings but no Levitate nor Fly. Justice.

Grovyle is one of my favorites, but unfortunately it's sandwiched between Treecko, which I'm ambivalent towards, and Sceptile, which I can't stand.

It'd be an awesome troll if Chespin's evolutions were little more than palette swaps. Chespin's such an effing boss that he doesn't need to evolve into anything else. Just up the stats and call it a day.

It was created for Grovyle specifically.
Especially since they all seem to be linear evolutions following the chestnut theme, and for all we know Gamefreak's going to do a complete 180 and turn him into Banansaurus Rex.
