Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

Brad, of course, doesn't deserve the shit he gets for his reviews/scores/quicklooks, but he acts like a giant asshole (condescending to both the equally idiotic "Brad sucks at video games" and "Brad, I love you" subgroups) on this forum, so he deserves all the shit he gets as a member of this forum. He's such a nice and thoughtful guy in his other writing and on the podcast. I guess it's a habit?

Uhm, He kind has to since some here act like assholes too. I totally understand why he racts like that sometimes (love his bombs), and I wonder why he even comes here anymore (don't leave). It's hard, I don't know how I would handle those things at all.

He could be a lot less passive aggressive when he suddenly comes in, but he usually settles down when there are reasonable discussions.

There's that "forum-goers are all idiots, whether they like me or hate me" subtext in almost all of his posts. He talks down to everyone. Then again, a lot of people are eager to please him and idiotically subservient, which isn't really attractive, maybe even worthy of condescension. Still, it's inconsistent with the image he portrays everywhere else.

Oh I agree that he tends to generalize us a bit.

The guy who actually did this is a complete tool.

Time for him to look into the mirror and realise what a sad cunt he has become when a review score swallows him whole.

So much butthurt in those comments in Brad's DmC review. What turns a person to hating a game before they try the final code? I understand skepticism but this childish, fanboy-like drivel over a videogame is so absurd.

Patrick also has the stigma of being "the first new guy" since GB came together as we know it. He will always be the new guy who wasn't of the original crew until they hire a new new guy.

I swear to God if IO thinks they can make a shitty, non-canon Freedom Fighters 2 and have me buy it-- they've got another thing coming! And if GB likes it, THEY HAVE NO INTEGRITY.

The chat during the QL live will be lovely. Not that I won't turn it off as quickly as possible like always, but man it's going to be a bloodfest.

I quite like Patrick now, it'd be refreshing to have a Bombcast member to hate again.

He seems to have relaxed a bit and found his place among the others. I don't mind him as much as I used to, even his Quick Looks can be somewhat entertaining. He needs to do Quick Looks with someone other than Ryan though, I don't think those two have good chemistry (as we saw with the Chrono Trigger Endurance Run.)

Patrick is fine, he just deals bullshit a lot (both in articles and Bombcast) and I get frustrated listening to it. As a duder, he's fine.

Well, he's not qualified to review the game since he never played DMC 3.

You can write a decent DmC review without being a Bayonetta or DMC 3 expert, or even playing them, and Brad did. If you want analysis from an expert then Dahbomb is around in all the DmC threads on GAF.

I always liked him on the site and on the Bombcast, even if I have strongly disagreed with some of his articles. The people who made him out to be Giant Bomb's Poochie were out of line.

Your logic isn't adding up here. I mean, it's a reboot of a series. It's a different game now. Why should he care about what DMC3 was when that clearly has nothing to do with this reboot.

Put the torch and pitchfork away. Pet that kitten in your avatar. Go outside and take a walk. Reflect on better times. It's okay for other people to not agree with you.

This notion is absurd.

Might as well just limit reviews to people who have beaten DMD and Bloody Palace in every previous game. Only they are well-versed enough with the mechanics to make their opinions valid.

Well, he's not qualified to review the game since he never played DMC 3.

Let's rephrase that for better communication accuracy and less jerk:

"I do not think Brad's opinion of DmC is relevant to me due to our different histories with the franchise."

There, much better, less accusatory and assholeish.

While playing a previous game might give good context, that hardly matters for reviews (especially reboots). There are plenty of people who may play a reboot without playing the previous games.

Isn't not playing the previous games a some what good thing. Yea he is missing he context on the combat.

This is a clean break fr Capcom trying to get new people.

Why not?

What does he contribute to GAF at large?

All he does on GAF is going into this thread to defend himself of what he considers unjust attacks.
If he doesn't do it himself then there is plenty of whiteknighting to be had in this thread on his behalf anyway.

Edit: And before the whining begins, the reviews editor of Polygon, Arthur Gies contribues plenty on GAF in threads that aren't about Polygon. If he left it would be felt outside of a single thread.

Exactly. The whole point of a reboot is to attract a whole new audience to the series that might have been on the edge of getting into it before, but didn't make the jump for whatever reason. Add the interview where they basically said that they're not done with the Japanese developed DMC games and you're left with no excuse for the vitriol coming out of some of these fans.

Hopefully one day they can get over this enough to look back and realize how insane they are sounding right now.

The review shattered his illusion that the GB staff were his friends!

I sometimes wonder just how creepy some of the stuff the fans send to GB must be.

You don't have to wonder, there are plenty of mailbag videos. Sending in something like the quilt that guy made is cool, but huge boxes of booze or endless secondhand junk kind of weirds me out. But maybe that's just me.

Yeah and then everyone will hate that guy; the cycle will continue.

Unless it's Brad Muir.
Please be Brad Muir.
