Giant Bomb Thread The Third: #TeamBrad

So you haven't played the game but are still talking mess about it on the internet because someone else suggested that you shouldn't like it?

Play the damn game before you make final judgement, least you look like an ass.

The guy still gave it an 8/10 (The scoring equivalent of a 4/5 star review on giant bomb.), and said nothing bad about anything but sound and story bits.

Brad really like the game and gave it a good score. I'm struggling to understand exactly what the debate is here. Should he give games he really liked lower scores because it wasn't what other people may or may not like?

This is truly a work of art.

It reminds me of the Fallout fans going nuts over Fallout 3. Until the day it was released and they were silenced by the huge number loving it. The OT went from "Fuck this game!", "Yeah! Let it bomb!" to "OMFG SO GOOD", "goty!" almost instantly.

I hated that No Mutants Allowed dumb nitpicking over Power Armor design gave a bad name to anyone who criticized Fallout 3's legitimate failings.

I've never played a DmC game so I value Brads review. Die hard fans aren't the only people considering buying the game. Does every website need a die hard fan for every franchise
May pick it up if the quick look is good.

People are upset that their franchise has taken a turn that they do not agree with. Is this such a hard concept to grasp? Dahbomb also recognizes that the combat is not on the same level as the last two devil May Cry games and some will not accept that.

Wait, you linked a positive review.

The score is positive but what really matters in the review are the words. The combat isn't as good as previous games and the style system is broken, and that the game is overall disappointing for a hardcore fan of the series. The boss fights are also bad.

Did you actually read it?

If that's the only review that matters to you, why are you so perturbed by Brad's review of the game?

I am so fucking sick of people getting mad when games are good because it isn't what they wanted. Syndicate, and now DmC. People wanting games to be bad is fucking mind-blowing to me. I don't mind people saying "This isn't the direction I want." about a game, but to actively say "This game is bad because it isn't what I want" is ludicrous.

I LOVE the old DMC games, 1 and 3 are some of my favorite games ever but that doesn't stop me from hoping that DmC is a good game because hey GOOD GAMES ARE GOOD BECAUSE I LIKE TO PLAY GOOD GAMES.

I wasn't trying to be condescending, sorry if I came off like that. Trying to be level headed for a fucking rapid fan base is tough. It's just frustrating that people still don't know why fans are upset when I feel it's really obvious.

Doesn't matter. If they choose to keep the name it's going to get compared to the other games in a series and rightly so.

Except that choosing to just call it DMC instead of DMC5 should change what those expectations are. This is not a game solely for hardcore DMC1-4 fans. This was a change meant to bring new people that did not play those older ones into the fold. This is why Devil May Cry 1, 3, or 4 do not matter. This really can't be made anymore clear here.

I believe I said his review was irrelevant and didn't mattter, right? Wouldn't that imply I am?
I think the fact that your first posts in this giant Giant Bomb thread happened today imply that you're on some sort of crazy anti-DmC crusade.

But hey, I'm probably wrong.

If anything shouldn't Brad be commended for letting the readers know his experience with the DMC franchise? He isn't hiding the fact that he never played DMC 3 and therefore gives the readers an insight on his level of knowledge with the series. Readers can then take his opinion with the appropriate weight

Oh, so it has nothing to do with Brad's review specifically?

They feel he is too glowing because he lacks the context of the series as a whole.

Also, you see this with genre games all the time, including fighting games, shmups, character action, etc. They take a certain amount of skill to play at a level that the biggest fans play at, and if you don't play at that level you can't criticize the game to the extent that big fans would be satisfied with.

For example, if you play a shmup and just credit feed throughout and ignore the score system, would a review from you be relevant to a big shmup fan who only does 1cc runs and does it for score? No, of course not.

But that doesn't completely invalidate your review, it just makes it irrelevant to the hardcore fans.

The problem is that the hardcore fans are being a bunch of assmonkeys about this.

Validation of new direction -> Capcom will continue in this new direction -> hardcore fans will therefore not get what they want -> kicking and screaming.

It's literally 2-year-old behavior.

It is, but sometimes it's the only way you'll be listened to. They probably wouldn't have put half as much effort into the game if it wasn't for those supposed 2 year olds.

It's not a crusade so much as it's me yelling at nothing for a few hours while I try to fall asleep. I'll be playing the game tonight.

Both of your gifs today have been awesome. Thanks for the big laughs! :)

People want the game to fail, so good reviews are seen as detrimental to the "cause." It's the same thing when people want/are convinced that a game is going to be the best thing ever, and it doesn't get 10/10 everywhere. Best example is when Jeff got a raft of shit for giving Zelda an 8.8, nevermind the fact that 8.8 is a really good score, and roughly what that game deserved (I scored it a 9).
