What animals are morally wrong to eat?

My morality is my own. I don't pretend that anyone else should care about what I personally find offensive.

So, for my own reasons, I probably won't eat cats or dogs, probably horses as well.

Granted, this is under normal circumstances. My morality in this area would be chucked right out the frickin' window if I was in a situation where I had no other food available.

Starving in a snow storm? Grandma becomes a sammich.

Depends on my condition at the moment. If I'm about to starve to death then I'm eating whatever animal I can get my hands on.

none. it might be morally wrong to kill some of the animals, but no reason not to eat something thats already dead.

Oh yeah.

I didn't get to eat shark fin soup this past weekend for a post funeral dinner.

Instead got some bullshit chicken and corn soup.

Thanks Obama

Around 1997 I quit eating mammals mainly because acting unusual was my way of expressing myself as a teenager. Over time it made enough sense to stick with it, but that logic was also fueled by a couple good vegetarian friends who hoped I would eventually stop eating meat all together.

So I eat all kinds of birds (ostrich is great), fish, reptiles (not worth it price/taste) never tried amphibians because hypnotoad (frogs just don't click as food with me).

This is not a moral judgement though it's purely a logic one because I despised the "we don't eat nice animals like dolphins and dogs" reasoning. So everyone should decide it for themselves, eating primates angers me greatly though. In terms of morality I would have to go with animals that face extinction.

I dont think we'd eat pork if pigs stayed looking like this their entire lives. Basically, I think we tend to not eat animals that we find cute and cuddly or form companionship with. Also, endagered or potentially endangered species. Seems pretty simple, really.

I'm not a vegeterian, but it's safe to say that killing any sentient being to eat it is immoral since we can find all those nutrients elsewhere. That being said, the only meat I avoid is Lamb

You guys are silly.

If people would start eating each other there would be a lot less hungry folk. Look how many humans there are. I mean, they're everywhere!

All of them, imho.

But I will not judge. People do many immoral things unconsciously, as long as it is not revealed to them directly, and they do not themselves feel frustrated by them, there is nothing one can do about it.

What about:

??

They are delicious.

Anyone who spends at least five minutes with a sheep would have no hesitation eating one.

They are seriously the dumbest and most obnoxious type of (mammalian) livestock you'll find. You'll soon want to kill it yourself just to get it to shut the fuck up.

man, this thread is making me hungry. some veal and pork meatballs sound really good right now.

also, i really want to try horse and dog meat right now. still can't wrap my head around eating cat. they just look like the meat might not be very good. don't get me wrong, i like cats, but they don't look very tasty. i've seen some dogs with some pretty good looking tenderloins and rear legs. as for horse, that german sausage in the horse hamburger thread looks delicious.

I love dolphins, although they're tasty too.

It's a complicated question.

Intelligence alone isn't a good factor. We already eat several intelligent species and I don't think it's necessarily immoral to do so.

I would include species that have been domesticated almost exclusively for human companionship, since we've selectively bred them to yield behaviors that make it is somewhat cruel to slaughter them. I would classify dogs and cats under this, but definitely not horses.

And certainly animals that are threatened or endangered should be off the table.

Hah

This is true and I've been assured by a friend that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled.

If we just allowed the poor to sell their children as food then they would stop being a burden, but rather profitable business people. This of course would also help to decrease the abortion rate.

People shouldnt be eating dogs not because 'omg theyre our pets,' but because of their history in helping mankind and not in the way an ox can pull a cart. It just seems wrong to eat something that has the intelligience to save you from carbon monoxide poisoning or be your grandfathers eyes etc.

That's not intelligence... That's just being a good tool.

By all accounts, dogs are pretty dumb. And they've been getting dumber.
