BADGE - BitSim Accelerated Display Graphics Engine
A display controller with acceleration for embedded systems

BADGE works as a graphics card in industrial and embedded systems, but doesn't suffer from the short life cycles affecting the usual graphics controllers. In addition it is very flexible, allowing it to interface to numerous types of processors, memories and displays.

BADGE provides 2D graphics acceleration with single or multiple video streams (including text and graphics overlay), and is an Intellectual Property (IP) core which can be used in both FPGAs and ASICs.

The modular design of BADGE allows it to be customized for your specific needs, optimizing for cost focused applications or for high performance requirements, but also makes it possible to add new functionality through your products life-cycle. Read more under "Features". New features are added upon request.

BADGE is easy to use and includes an API, drivers for both Windows CE and Linux and a backend to Qt. Due to the nature of the IP core, BADGE isn't affected by end-of-life-problems since the IP core can easily be moved to another FPGA device - even a device from a different vendor!

There is a Reference design available for BADGE, making it easy to evaluate and demonstrate intended usage scenarios. Read more under "Reference design".

Benefit highlights

Performance

High resolution - 4096 x 4096 pixels
High color depth - 24-bit color, plus alpha

Flexibility

Any display format, memory type and processor interface
Scaleable for performance or cost
Scaleablefor small or large displays
Any FPGA family and vendor
Easy to adapt and modify

Future proof

Wide selection of available components and vendors
A multitude of FPGAs, packages and temperature ranges.
Surf the FPGA technology
Dramatic development of performance and price.
Product life cycle ownership
Migrate when you choose. Avoid EOL disaster.

I've just about have enough of this. someone had better start talking in terms of bits or I'm going to lose it.

That source is a year old in a thread with a rumored 8000 series yea. The CPUs will be moot IMO, but this ram situation will be the difference maker. How much so we shall see.

Surely the bandwidth to the ESRAM is fairly irrelevant? How many times a second do you need to fill / empty 32mb?

Edit - 3,200 times apparently!

Some of you guys saying you want AA and that 2xAA is okay have never wandered into the the high res screenshot thread where they're doing 4xSGSSAA and shit.

99+ percent of the people out there won't notice it in motion. Hell, most people didn't even notice this gen.

Inside information. I'm using spoiler alert in case someone wasn't expecting it.

Both consoles will come with only one controller, and they'll still supply you shitty component cables.

Shh! You heard it here first!

I think you'll see tesselation in use in everything, more or less, but not to the degree some people are expecting. My understanding is that there are certain challenges, at least in durango's architecture, that will make developers carefully consider where they use it.

Isn't tesselation like the future or some shit? Why the hell wouldn't durango be made without those difficulties?

Nope. I think he meant 102 GB/s for the Edram.

That kind of bandwidth for the main ram would be kind of crazy.

DDR3 on 386bit would be crazy [~quad speed of x360 main ram pool]... but the math is correct.

As for esram, theoretically it is slower than edram but it has better latencies. Maybe it will have 102GB/s after all...

You are likely to get 128-bit, which is 34GB/s unless you go triple channel which is more like 50GB/s.

I know, im just posting "math" that fits. I fully expect 128bit DDR3.

i know who told you that, tell him that they know and to expect a phone call.

Next-gen ultra secret scoop: It's gonna be video games and it's gonna be good.

Nah for MS it's gonna be W8, W8, W8, you love Metro right? Kinect! We got 15 billion different ways to advertise to you on our paid service.. etc. Then they might get around to video games.

I'm only half joking

That's basically how their last E3s have been and how this year's most likely will be.

Isn't tesselation like the future or some shit? Why the hell wouldn't durango be made without those difficulties?

Because console hardware is a series of compromises? And at least in microsoft's case, those compromises have been made with a mind to maximizing achievable, not theoretical, results. If it's happening, it's happening for a reason. Generally, that reason is hitting a power envelope/meeting a certain production cost/tuning the system to practical developer needs.

Anyway, re: tesselation, it's a great thing, but using a lot of it carries massive performance penalties even on powerful PC systems.

32 MB ES RAM is right though :).

sorry to disappoint, no ninjas here.
i had a feeling Jehova was lying and i did what i did to expose him.
next time dont believe random dudes.

it´s all planned by MS and Sony.

Put so many rumors in the i-net and nobody has an idea was is right and was is wrong. Perfect Strategie :D
