And like that, he's gone.

This shouldn't have become a big fucking deal to begin with. How many guys on that team or throughout this country have their grandmothers die while they're in college? What made him so special?

I remember rolling my eyes whenever an interviewer brought up the tragic death of his gf. I remember thinking that all of the sympathy should be going to the girl's family, not some guy that had an online relationship with her, and couldn't be bothered to go to her funeral.

I mean, she didn't exist, but this was then, you understand?

:media:

Can someone explain the situation to those who dont follow football?

It usually takes ESPN a few days before they start coming down hard on athletes. Remember how long it took them to really start reporting the Tiger Woods situation?

Has anyone theorized about him trying to cover up a homosexual relationship with Tuiasosopo? I'm not trying to be funny or disrespectful, but that wouldn't surprise me.

Again I ask.....

Why no Skype?
I have a long distance boyfriend who I met online and we talk on skype all the time but neither of us have webcams so it's no biggie. According to Te'o he and his 'girlfriend' talked on the phone every night which is basically the same thing as skype in that case.

Also, it seems like he would do all he could to expose whoever this girl was who was talking to him. Also the guy who called to inform him of her supposed death. If this was really a hoax against him, where are all these people who were in on it? Release those phone numbers to the media and let them get cracking tracing these people down.

I also find it hard to believe he never sent her letters or presents through the mail if they were long distance. Where are those addresses? Did she never send him things either?

Seems like there would be some trail to expose those on the other side if he was really the victim here. I know if I were in his shoes I would be releasing every bit of info I had to the media to get the attention off myself.

wait so it's okay for the media to withhold information to protect their interests (ratings) but if a school withholds information like Penn State...oh no you can't do that here's 4 years of sanctions!

I don't think it's okay but there's a world of difference between covering up a fake girlfriend story and child rape.

One of the guys who wrote this article is still an undergrad. LOL ESPN.

Yeah. I don't know if there are sanctions for lying for something that doesn't really hurt anyone

[speculation]so he's gay and this was the coverup[/speculation]

That's the only acceptable explanation.

From the Deadspin story.
That photo hadn't appeared on the internet—at least, not to Reba's knowledge. She had taken it in December 2012 and sent it directly to an old high school acquaintance. The two hadn't talked since graduation, but the classmate, whom Reba remembered fondly, contacted her on Facebook with a somewhat convoluted request: His cousin had been in a serious car accident, and he had seen her photos before and thought she was pretty. Would she be so kind as to take a picture of herself holding up a sign reading "MSMK," to put in a slideshow to support the cousin's recovery? (He didn't explain what MSMK meant, and Reba still doesn't know.) Baffled but trusting, Reba made the sign and sent along the photo.

And now here it was on a dead girl's Twitter profile. After googling Lennay Kekua's name, Reba began to piece things together. She called up the classmate. He expressed alarm, Reba told us later, and "immediately began acting weird." "Don't worry about it," he told her. Moments after the phone call, Reba's picture was removed from the @LoveMSMK Twitter profile. Then, in a series of lengthy phone calls, Reba told us everything she knew about the classmate, a star high school quarterback turned religious musician named Ronaiah Tuiasosopo.

Ronaiah is a friend of Manti Te'o. There is no chance that this was some hoax by an outside party on Te'o. None. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

Wait, so he met her? But then that would mean that she had to look just like the pics that were being put up of her. But apparently, that girl came forward and said that she had nothing to do with it. Well, unless she was also in on it.

I'm starting to think Te'o really was in on this! WTF?!

I think that it's more about them covering their own asses before blowing the lid off the craziest sports story in decades.
