Lennay Kekua – Manti Te’o's Fake, Dead Girlfriend – Was Real, Says Arizona Cardinals Fullback Reagan Mauia, Who Claims to Have Met Her

Mauia said Tuiasosopo — whom Mauia believes is Kekua’s cousin — introduced the two. After the initial meeting, Mauia said he met her at an “after-party” for all of the athletes involved in the camp.

“She was tall,” he said. “Volleyball-type of physique. She was athletic, tall, beautiful. Long hair. Polynesian. She looked like a model … ”

He said it is his understanding that Kekua’s mother is operating her Twitter account. He said he’d never met her mother. When told by a reporter that she apparently might not have existed, Mauia said “No, she is real.”

Holy crap, I've been tying to follow this story all day and even I need a recap. Consensus is still that Manti Te'o was directly involved in putting together this hoax yeah?
 
Starting to believe that Ronaiah and Te'o are using the gf as a cover. Between the details that have come out and those most recent tweets its the only scenario that kind of makes sense.

Those twitter accounts feel authentic to me. Seems like 2 people personally chatting with no concern over someone watching what they said.

This. I think Ronaiah had maybe had the persona and Te'o may have come out or done something that he needed a GF. Ronaiah steped up

Also if this is true the university can look like a good guy who got duped by the player who lied to them. Still don't understand the PI's and why they brought that up.

My sense of it is that he was hoaxed, and when he figured it out he freaked and made up a stupid cancer story, then Notre Dame were like "what the fuck are we going to do with this shit? fuck it, FULL COVER MODE, SANDUSKY MANEUVERS ENGAGED!".
But I could be wrong, for real, this story, I wouldn't be shocked if turned out the internet was getting punked and Manti Teo is actually Joaquin Phoenix.

Why would you have an online only girlfriend that you never talk to or skype with. Again its total BS. The only members of the hoax are that guy and Teo. This mysterious girl he supposedly talked to does not exist either. Basically he invented a second fake girl that right now ND is claiming is real and crying about what a shame it is Teo will never be able to trust anyone. This is so stupid, how can they not see this.
 
Why the fuck would you pretend to have a fake - dead girlfriend just because you're gay? Doesn't make any logical sense.

Sounds to me like the University wanted to created more buzz / sympathy for his Heisman campaign.

He was personal friends with the guy who "hoaxed" him. I doubt the university really knew much until he told them. My guess is it started small. If he was gay (which is just speculation) he might have gottened questioned by a friend his friend posed as an Long distant relationship to hide behind an excuse (he's in college and college students do stupid things) spiraled and he couldn't end it so he "killed her." Never thought people were gonna find out after she was "dead"

Right. If she was online only, by some weird stretch, we need to know:
A. How they met
B. Why they never skyped
C. Why the stories of him meeting at Stanford, her visiting his fam came about
D. Who he spoke to on the phone?
E. Who he spoke to on the phone when her so called brother called him.

^And thats just off the top of my head.

Who though? Certainly most of his coaches and teammates wouldn't give a shit, or much less ask. A reporter isn't going to suddenly start dropping "Hey Manti, are you actually gay man??"

That's unfortunately not a safe assumption.

He's also a Mormon and attending a Catholic university. Those two institutions tend to have problems with homosexuality.

Not sure. People cared about McCarrons gf. Everyone loved Manziels antics. ESPN did a story on rg3 and his gf last year. Russell Wilsons gf was a big story after the draft.

If he did indeed cover it up, he is nuts no matter how you sliced it. Maybe he thought he better have an answer for his personal life questions, especially being a Mormon at a catholic school playing football.

I get that, but even still - just pull a Tebow or Jonas Brother and tell everyone you're saving yourself for marriage or something along those lines.

I mean, sure it's entirely plausible he's a homosexual. That this was a giant ruse. However, I'm inclined to think that the powers-to-be conjured up this "girlfriend" as a springboard for more media attention and sympathy towards him (potentially) winning the Heisman.
 
When I first heard of this story, my gut reaction was that Teo lied about this to, for some twisted and stupid (no regard for consequence?) reason he wanted to get some extra fame and pity. Now I don't know and the whole thing, as funny as it is, makes me a little uneasy. If he is, in fact, gay I feel sorry for the guy, that he feels he has to go to this extent to hide who he is from his family, church and school. On the other hand we all think that because he's this stud football player he must be a ladies man, but maybe he's just another internet simp that either got fooled by some pranksters, or lied about a girl to brag to friends and family and it just spiraled out of control. This is just a crazy ass story. I don't know where this guy goes from here.
