Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

inside a hardcase, inside my manbag
This is the only way to travel.

So, I got the MGS HD collection and by gum, these games have aged well. I'm positive it's not only nostalgia, MGS2 has been really fun to play through again. I'm even enjoying the over-exposure and self-indulgent story in the cutscenes/codec convos.

Can't wait to crack on with it and check out MGS3 - probably my favourite of the series.

Anyone playing UMvC3 by the way? I'm in Japan, but would love to try a few matches with non-randomers. My ID is the same as on here, just sling a note saying "VitaGAF" or something.

I already sent out invites to a bunch of you folks. Good to know ya!

Went and traded in a few games at BB. Wanted P4G. they didnt even have a spot for it! Arghhh! Now i have to wait 7-10 for it to get here after ordering it online! At least i got the skin.

I asked a mod to change it. I update the thread as soon as there's a game announced.

Awesome, true, as long as some VitaBros reading it, that what keep me updating it, lol.

Hadn't seen it before, I rarely wander out of here.
Now that I see it, I posted in it and am subscribed.
Keep up the good work.

Hey, another fellow JapanGaffer!
I'll add you when I get home from work.
I don't have UMvC3 though, though I could be tempted to get it. How does it control on the Vita?

On the PSP, haha.

Soul Sacrifice is coming up, and I have a strong feeling that Ys Celceta will wind up being localized. Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention is a fairly solid SRPG with a good sense of humour, and you could probably try out Ragnarok Odyssey to see if it's to your tastes - I'm unfamiliar with it, though.

For stealth games, Ive really been enjoying Shinobido 2.

A lot of the missions can be beaten very quickly, and early on there is a lot of repeition in terms of levels and objectives. Maps arent as complex as Tenchu. But about 3-4 hours in, the mission difficulty ramps up and it does take a lot of work to nail a perfect run. But when you do, and clear it all out in under 2 minutes it is very rewarding.

Soul Sacrifice doesn't look like a JRPG to me. :)

Alright, I'm on my first commute right now and I'm having my Vita with me for the first time. Though I'm having it in a plastic bag in my bag. I think I should find a case on Amazon...

Also for the guy asking about stealth. I'm having MGS: HD on Xbox 360 and already completed it on PS2 - yet it's something special on Vita. It just feels different.

Apparently there may eventually be a Vita version of PSN game Derrick the Deathfin - either the original game, a possible sequel, or both.

The blog comments are pretty good:

Really liked the look of the game but if a sequel ever comes I hope you will impriove the controlls.

Really liked the start of your comment but if you make another one I hope you will improve the end.

Bloody hell, both Oragarhythm and Sumioni are not available in many countries including mine. I can understand about Austrailia since they have a different rating system, but India follows PEGI. Why the hell you won't release there? Guess I should switch to a US PSN account as this has become a normal routine for downloadable games.

Cheers! I used to play vanilla on PS3, and this has breathed new life into it for me.
The d-pad works surprisingly well - really surprisingly well - especially compared to what I'm used to with fighters on other handhelds. Its subtle 'clicking' doesn't hurt my thumb as much as the softer PSP/PS3 d-pad, either.

UMvC3 is nice because it doesn't rely on a 6-button layout, making it perfectly suited.
To top it off, I'm a bit of a trial/mission freak, having a blast going through and learning my shiz. I'm sure some of the super pro stuff will be tough to master when scaled down (and without a stick of course), but once you get in the groove I reckon you'll be able to pull off 95% of what you could on consoles.

Sweet, I've been meaning to try out Derrick The Deathfin! I'm down.

Also, I think I'll just carry my Vita around in my laptop bag until I get a proper case. Good enough for now. Thanks for the recommendations though.

So besides Persona 4, where are all the jrpgs at?
They're slowly starting to appear in Japan, though we'll just have to wait for them to be localized. In the mean time, there are two upcoming titles that, while not Japanese, might scratch that itch - Rainbow Moon, a SRPG, and Dragon Fantasy: Book II, sorta classic Square SNES RPGs meet Monkey Island.

Feeling pretty stupid, but I will ask it anyway.

In Mortal Kombat Vita, I unlocked all the alternative and bonus costumes for all the fighters doing the tower missions, but I don't know how to select the costumes to playing the game with it. I only can see them on Nekropolis. I saw in the PS3 version that as soon you select your character, there is a "select costume" screen, but I don't see it on the Vita version. Help?

Press the Start button when you're selecting a character and the option to change costumes appears.

Why? It's just going to bomb again. And his dismissive comment of a legit critic is pretty telling.

Same with it going to Steam, but Steam has "OMG INDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" buyers that are stupid enough to leap before they look so maybe it'll be somewhat successful there. Who knows.

If you get MGS 2/3, you can transfar, so your progress from PS3 should transfer (depending on if the save games were started before or after the patch)...

Even after the patch. Simply save your pre-patch save in a new slot and it should transfer over.

I deleted my motorstorm RC and redownloaded it - planning to just start a 'new game' and let it sync trophies and times from my PS3 version because I'm having crash problems which might be save game related. But if I do that, will it automatically upload the 'empty' save to the cloud, overwriting the existing one there?

this would be an issue any time you delete a game and redownload it later on, so is there a process to avoid your save being overwritten?

so im having a lot of fun with EDF. Really glad I got it. It has that "just one more mission" addiction that I havn't had in a fair while now from a game. It truly embrases its cornyness and has a really awesome B-Movie vibe to it.

Up to mission 16 so far. Just playing through on normal for now but definitely plan to go through harder difficulties afterwards. Also look forward to unlocking palewing.

The vehicles are hilariously bad to control but really powerful so it kinda balances out.

Played one mission online with a random. Was pretty cool but there are very few people online with it at the moment. No Verses games were there so I couldnt try that (might be amusing).

Its basically just a an over the top, Corny survival shooter with a huge B-Movie vibe and is a blast to play.

In Japan, and sadly most of them will likely not come out of there.
Oh well the year and system are still young if sales of the system pick up maybe we will see more of the JRPGs, at the very least we should get FFX at some point on the vita.

Should I stop updating this thread?

If one person reads it once in a while, I will keep on going but it just feels like that thread is forgotten.
Didn't know about it, but now subbed. :)

I've seen some people asking about Sumioni. I bought the game, finished ending 1, 2 and am currently going through stages that lead to ending 3. The game has been a blast personally, but it's not a game for everyone. You have to know what you're getting yourself into.

The first time you clear the game, it can easily take around 30 minutes, but there are many more stages that you need to unlock (ending 1 has around 6 stages, there are 29 stages in total). It is true that the stages have been repetitive with re-used assets, to the point of feeling as if the stages are random generated. But that isn't really the game's focus. It's the fighting, the situations you're put into and the scores that you receive near the end of each stage.

The gameplay is addictive and interesting while not being too deep. The fights can easily be repetitive if you don't use arts, summons and ink options. I feel like it's an interesting dynamic of anticipating attacks, deciding when to go in attack mode and give it all you got. It's especially the use of ink and the powers that you have. It didn't get boring for me. The controls are also very responsive and fast. The scoring system depends on how fast it takes you to finish a stage and how much damage you have received. You can get up to 3 stars at most.

The branching system actually doesn't work as bad as I was led to believe. It's pretty straightforward in how you achieve alternative paths that lead you to an ending. You need to get 3 stars on the stage that has alternative paths, you don't need to have 3 stars with other levels. The save system is also not bad. You save your progress every time you finish a stage but you don't have to. So if you perform bad, you can simply retry until you get it right. You can also save in different files but it's better to have one save file. The last ending is obviously going to take the longest time to beat, but it's better to go after easier endings first in order to build up your health and ink gauge. These stats are brought over every time you finish the game.

The endings have a continuation to them. The story has been pretty enjoyable with some nice wit about it, but it's not really the focus either. Don't expect any fancy cutscenes. It's only text with artwork. I find the music to be very good and fitting with the game. The game looks nice with its style that is similar to Okami. You also have gallery mode where you can listen to the songs and watch artwork (the latter I haven't unlocked). There is ranking but it doesn't seem to have any stats in there, weird.

Overall, I think the game is fun. I'm definitely planning on playing more of it to try and get other endings. The price is JUST right. I can understand how it was too expensive for North Americans (around 20-30 dollards?), this is enough of a reason to be negative about the game. It is a smaller game with high replay value, I'm glad exseed handled it better for EU.

It should be pretty clear wether the game is for you after reading this. It definitely is specific and different but it's not bad, it was unfairly panned. I also enjoyed Shinobido 2 which had a similar fate.
Thanks for these. Also, quoting for people that missed it. Definitely intrigued now, it's going in my watchlist. :)

should i get p4g for 30$ on craigslist? - the issue is i already have ni no kuni and xenoblade chronicles to play through...i geuss ican find it at a later date right?

:(

I'll try to remember to add you tonight. I'm mainly looking for someone who has a good connection to play sessions with. The vita community is almost and it's hard to get a game that isn't "broken" due to lag.

As far as the controls on vita go, I'm currently practicing Doom TAC combos. I have the side and down TACs almost down completely (in training mode) so it should give you a good example how anything is possible on the vita.

Seriously, PS Vita is fantastic for my commute in the morning. 30 minutes train ride is perfect for some "console" quality gaming. It makes the morning oh so much easier. :)
