in fairness, I think he is saying that she wrote letters in advance of each game, which is why he prefaced it with "this is kind of creepy", like before she died she wrote a bunch of letters for him to read before each game. At least that's how I took it.

He says "This is creepy"...why would he say that (well we know now that the whole thing is very creepy) about his girlfriend writing him a letter? I think the implication (and lie) in this case was that she wrote him a series of letters for each remaining game for him to open and read.

No one could know why yet, but they definitely lied about it. ND claims that Te'o came to them about it on the 26th of December and now ND says that Te'o got a phone call from in December from the gf that was supposed to have died in september. And both he and the University still gave interviews and put on performances about how he was rising above this great tragedy in his life.

No he claimed there was a hoax done to him, meaning he believed there were siblings at some point, which means there would have had to be a huge cast of actors taking turns calling him to continue tricking him. Among all the other moronic holes in his story.

You know if he really was tricked that would be a good way to prove it, by showing a receipt of you sending flowers to whatever address they gave him. If you are in on it you wouldn't buy flowers for a fake person. But of course that wont happen since he is clearly in on this.

There was a fake sibling twitter account.
There's a slim possibility, that he was hoaxed via twitter almost entirely. And then told his Dad and other's that he'd actually met this girlfriend that he had only ever really spoke with online. This turned into a "lie" that snowballed, along with what the hoaxer was doing. He'd have to be dumb to believe a hoax in the first place, so he also might have fallen for the "You shouldn't go to my funeral" line.
And he might have fallen for the fake sister twitter as well.
Like the lies about how he had met the girl, he also would exaggerate the "family support." What was merely a few tweets from an alleged sister online becomes "I couldn't have done this without my girlfriends family." It fits the pattern in the theory.
Of course that's also all possiblel evidence that it was a dumb story he was a part of making up.
But there's a SLIM chance he was hoaxed, and then told a lot of lies about the fake girl who hoaxed him.
So he's either a blatant liar who tried to twist some feel good story for purely selfish reasons.
Or he's kind of an idiot, maybe very little experience with girls, who was hoaxed, and then lied about his online girlfriend enough times to make it seem like he might have been in on the hoax.. when really he was just a guy exaggerating a girl.
How no-one in the media ever bothered to even look the girl up is killing me either way.

Manti had supposedly talked to her by phone every night. Which means, if he's telling the truth, there is a real phone number attached to that. And that number will have a real account holder attached to it. Which means the investigators should know exactly to whom Manti was conversing with.
But ND didn't seem to mention anything about knowing who it was. They just said the're keeping everything "private" for now. They could have said "we know now exactly who the girl he was talking with over the phone was but we can't reveal it for legal reasons right now." Nope, instead the guy said something completely different.
Manti has to explain the girl on the other line and who it was really soon otherwise no one is going to begin to buy his side of the story.

Seriously. If I were in charge of Notre Dame I would be looking for any and every occasion to throw Manti Teo under the bus, back it up, and drive it over again. What do they have to gain? Some embarrassment? Yeah, but that's already happening anyway. He doesn't play for them anymore so there's no fear of sanctions. They can wash their hands of him. They have no reason to defend him. They can thank him for his 4 years of great play and pretty much no comment or back away from anything about his extracurricular affairs. But ego, pride and fear get in the way and these morons dig the whole even deeper.
