Anyone care to guess which guild will seem the most impressive when the full set is revealed? So far they've released no common/ uncommon Dimir creatures, so I'm banking on them.

Boros is currently the best looking guild. I think Simic is the one most likely to have a surprising effect on the scene. And Gruul will almost definitely give Jund decks some potent tools.

Really looking forward to Orzhov in Limited, but Gruul will probably be the best (read: easiest to draft).

Drafting Simic will be a skill-testing challenge that will prove to be very, very rewarding for those who can pull it off.

I want Gruul and Orzhov to be good, though I doubt they will be, except in limited. Which is the only format where guilds even remotely matter, now that I think about it.

Boros charm is awesome, yes, but the creatures are pretty weak without battalion buffs.

You wanted to know how much it cost to draw/discard a card with Cipher?

And if there's an Evolve tempo deck out there, does it use this card?

Seems like it might be interesting.

A new spirit mantle, could be good.

Awesome draft removal.

Great mana dump in draft.

I'm going to lose many limited matches to this bastard.

=/ Cipher is looking like a lost cause.

Simic limited bomb, yikes.

5 mana? Uh...

Interesting...

Anti intangible virtue and yet another lingering souls hoser.

Neat.

Great for Dimir mill strategies.

Why is this red?

RTR/GC/DM Nice centaurs there Selesnya.

Going to lose to this a lot.

Bloodrush is disgusting. 3 mana, seriously?

Nice trick.

Hmm....

This guy might actually be a star in Pauper.

Heh, love the new art.

Cool, though probably too expensive to see much constructed play.

atyr93aly4_en.jpg

That's a cool way to do looting, I like.

Wow a land destruction card that I might actually play once in awhile, I'm shocked.

Nice reassembling skeleton replacement. I have a friend who had all kinds of ridiculous shenanigans with that guy.

That's gonna be rough in draft. Arguably better then stab wound since you can keep attacking once you slap that on something.

f0w4uubozz_en.jpg

Why does this have haste? Are you really dropping a dude and a 5 mana aura on the same turn?

14gyxtjfad_en.jpg

What an awful reanimator card.

drn2bbhkl9_en.jpg

Equip cost of 3? Ahahahahahaaa.

So... looks like a fun limited set, I don't know how much of an impact on constructed it's going to have outside of a few cards.

I'm really digging the Denizen and enchant land cycles, flavorwise.

Immortal Servitude seems like a fun card to build around:

The set looks fun for limited, but I certainly wouldn't expect the packs to hold their value.

I'm definitely going to hold onto any good mythics I pull; this set won't get opened nearly as much as RtR.

Modern Soul Sisters players just came a little.

Like most people, I'm not blown away. I think Assemble the Legion has been largely overlooked as an inevitable finisher which is difficult to remove, though that will change in a hurry if people are packing negative Intangible Virtue in their boards. Both of the mythic Simic creatures are batshit good and I'm prolly gonna make playing those guys a priority when the set comes out.

As much as I wanted to play Boros, I can't see myself picking anything other than Simic in both my prereleases. Probably calling both stores tomorrow just to make sure I have it reserved as I bet a lot more people are going to do the same.

It's still crappy. You have to do too much work still to get it working in that example and you may be playing against the same colors. It's just not worth it sadly.

The fact that it's "combat damage to a player" not "combat damage" is pretty deal breaker-y.

I must say, Orzhov and Dimir are looking terrible for draft.

I don't know about Dimir being terrible. I always felt that mill strategies worked really well in limited due to the smaller deck size.

I'm actually kind of relieved that GTC is kind of flat. I'll be buying a playset of Aurelia's Fury and a box and that's aboot it this time around.

Some somewhat interesting things spoiled, but it largely seems like most of the interesting cards are costed 1-2 cmc than they should.

It you can stall out with walls and tapping, sure. Dimir creatures leave much to be desired however. Boros gets Battalion going and Gruul goes beats much faster than dimir can respond. It's a shame, because Consuming Abberation was the only promo card I really liked.

Caleb Durward posted an article today regarding the forthcoming B&R update on the 28th.

Some interesting stuff in it. The options for Legacy are about what I would say (mostly keep as is), but even considering unbanning Flash and Survival seems weird. Flash is too good, but Survival I'm not sure we have the hate available for it. DRS is good but slow, and aside from Rest in Peace the hate isn't much different from when it was banned. I'd love to see it back, but it really shouldn't.

For Modern, we agree that the list needs to be trimmed for the format to improve. Jace and Chrome Mox I agreed with, but BB I hadn't considered before and makes sense. I think Misstep could come off since modern isn't quite as 1-drop focused as Legacy, but it's still not a fun card. Basically trim the fat on the list.

Orzhov looks pretty good to me actually. Limited is the format where I'm most likely to not hit my curve and have extra mana lying around to pump into Extort

I want to attend at least one more Jace-free Modern event, so I hope they keep him on ice, same with Mental Misstep. I'm not as bothered by Nacatl now that Shocklands are easy to get, so I wouldn't be opposed to him coming back. I think Preordain and Ancestral Visions might be fine now too.

Don't know enough about Legacy to comment on the ban list.

I mostly played Rakdos with no splash in RTR and hit curve pretty much every game. I guess I'm just lucky. I'd rather play with a guild that greatly rewards good hands than smoothes out bad ones. I'd be curious to see how many Extorts it manages to get in per game. I'm guessing 3-7, most of which will be during late-game.

After seeing the full spoiler I'm thinking Boros for the prerelease. Some good commons and uncommons, some great rares, and I can still take advantage of mono red bloodrush creatures and mono white extort creatures as needed as well.

The two best guilds in my mind are probably Boros and Simic, so if you choose the Grull guild pack you can side into either of the two depending on which guild you get better cards for in the other boosters. Nothing worse than choosing the Boros pack but get really sweet Simic rares.

I think i'd ban Deathrite Shaman, and unban Wild Nactl, Chrome Mox, Jitte, and Glimpse. I think Jace being banned is more about the approachability of the format and not really the power level, and there is a special place in hell for people who play Bitterblossom.

Hmm, Dimir really does look a bit weak here, but I'll try 'em out regardless. Then I'll go Simic and perhaps Gruul/Boros on Sunday. Should be good times. Hoping to open a few shocks and Lazav or a Seer.

What do you guys use for deck building tools? I used Magic Workstation for the longest time, but support has dropped off for it (also it's a pain in the ass to install to a directory other than C:\Program Files\), and I figured I'd see what you guys are using.
