VGLeaks Durango specs: x64 8-core CPU @1.6GHz, 8GB DDR3 + 32MB ESRAM, 50GB 6x BD...

Yes, lets get back on topic.

Someone other than me should do a post summarizing all that we have learned in this thread, minus that comparisons.

I'll sum it up--next-gen is going to be an awful lot like current-gen when comparing power of systems.

Yeah, sure gamers would pay for that. But if you're okay with playing 3rd party titles and you have to decide on which console you'll be using netflix and other multimedia features, you'd probably decide against the 720.

But if you are happy with the service you receive and are invested in it then its very hard to change.
And if you particularly like a particular exclusive game then it's even harder to make a full on switch.

Just treading water.

I'd like to know how many individual chips there are. Is the NB integrated to the APU? (most likely) Is the SB integrated to the APU? Is the ESRAM integrated to the APU?

Orbis = Geoff Keighley
Durango = Shane Satterfield
WiiU = HipHop Gamer

Only way i see ninty being relevant is to bring out all the big guns at e3.
Oh they will. Trailers/footage of a 3D Mario, Metroid and Mario Kart U, plus a vague teaser for a late 2014 Zelda*. That plus flowing rivers of Durango/Orbis news means we're in for a real thriller this year.

There have been so many 'leaks' now that not much is going to shock us when it comes to the new consoles though. Maybe designs? Controllers? Prices?

* I can only dream for all these things.

Hopefully tomorrow.

That thread and this one are going to get crazy when they do. Buckle up!

May I inquire as to reason for this belief? Does the article posted by Eurogamer on Jan 18th 2013, which spawned over 4,200 replies on Neogaf, not count as a leak? After all, we were not privy the information about the special compute module in the PS4 before.

I have a feeling one of the two has something crazy we're not expecting.

I still say the possible anti-used game stuff could be the biggest news of this gen.

It does, but we need more info.
However, there's a fair amount of "secret sauce" in Orbis and we can disclose details on one of the more interesting additions. Paired up with the eight AMD cores, we find a bespoke GPU-like "Compute" module, designed to ease the burden on certain operations - physics calculations are a good example of traditional CPU work that are often hived off to GPU cores. We're assured that this is bespoke hardware that is not a part of the main graphics pipeline but we remain rather mystified by its standalone inclusion, bearing in mind Compute functions could be run off the main graphics cores and that devs could have the option to utilise that power for additional graphical grunt, if they so chose.

I fear for that. Not for myself so much because I don't usually buy much pre-owned these days, but it's a huge part of gaming for consumers and Sony/MS will be shooting themselves in the foot if they go ahead with such things.

There is a rumour that sony wont have 4 gb of ram. I don't know if it's more or less, but looking at their track record I would be worried.

Also, what Aegies said about getting good enough yeilds that they can enable the other two CUs for a total of 20 would be great...fingers crossed. Sony needs whatever boost they can get as their system won't be as modified and I don't see 3D stacking and all that cutting edge tech happening right now.

Same here, but I buy many used games.

I'm a bit concerned that we haven't heard any insiders brushing it off yet. All I want to see is someone who knows say, "anti-used? Crazy talk."

My reasoning is just that they said they're going into details about both of them all this week, and after the Durango reveal they said the Orbis reveal is next. It's just a hopeful guess, I have no idea.

And yeah the Eurogamer leak totally counts. If it's the same information with a bit more details, then we pretty much know for sure what both systems are.

We still don't know what do some of the parts do that are featured in the diagram. Hence, the question about "secret sauce" remains.

Rumoured usable amount for game development:

XB3: At least 5GB DDR3 + 32MB ESRAM
PS4: 3.5GB GDDR5

Fixed.

After careful analysis I'm confident that Rhombus >>>> Bojangles but at the end of the day, it's all about the exclusive games. I'm more interested in that than arguing over gigaflops and blast processing.

I think people are overestimating the gap between Orbis and Durango with these comparisons. There really isn't much of a point in going multiplat if 1>>2>>3. Too much for developers.

If one is going to give us better frame-rates and performance then all the more reason to compare both.
