VGLeaks Durango specs: x64 8-core CPU @1.6GHz, 8GB DDR3 + 32MB ESRAM, 50GB 6x BD...

You know, if this Durango method to gauge more power via secret sauce pays off...

It could then lend itself to PC hardware in the future. Imagine getting even more bang for your buck on PC hardware at a cheaper price...

This secret sauce thing reminds of me of listening about the Cell's hidden powers. Will be interesting to see the end result once E3 starts.

Sorry guys can anyone explain what is the latest info from this thread? I saw the thread this morning, but now I cant make heads or tails of what is new. I need to get in bed got work in the morning. Thanks

I hope one of them takes off. I wish Cell did too, but PC hardware makers just brute forced things instead.

The only relevant information is in the OP. Nothing since but speculation.

No.

I got ripped apart for saying at least one shit dev will release a sub 720p res game.
Me and I-Lo:)
I know it sounds crazy but I just think it will happen. Might not be one of the big boys but I just feel it in my bones.

So Elder Scrolls VI will be sub 720p on either Durango or Orbis.

it reminds me of extended universe arguments. it's a handy tool for working out people's allegiances though, like a crystal ball which projects all their wildest fantasies.

the only reasonable course is rational scepticism and with an open mind to new information.

Wonder where the Illumiroom is going to figure in the overall strategy. I want that Fifa game with the crowd projected demoed at E3. That will be effing amazing.

I'm starting to think this 'secret sauce' thing is just a hopeful and extravagant attempt by certain people to try boost Durango and close the performance gap the actual rumoured specs seem to show.

It's gone from a sure thing, to maybe not existing, to being not understandable, to now being something completely different.

I'd be happy to be proven otherwise mind, since for me personally, the ideal situation is for both consoles to be as powerful as possible.

Since AMD is making CPU + GPU for both next-gen consoles... where does that leave Nvidia?

Nvidia makes more than enough being the GPU manufacturer of choice within the enthusiast and non-Apple/home console embedded system markets.

Edit: Beaten.

Tech dudes! Can someone shed some light on this:

1. The clock speed of the CPU. I see people shouting "the architecture is different!" but what exactly do you mean? I'd like someone to flesh this out.

2. 8GB DDR3 vs 4GB DDR5. The latter is obviously faster, but in a real world scenario, which is better? More ram, or faster ram?

Cell is brute force. None of these secret sauces are about brute force.
That depends on viewpoint - Fixed-function blocks accelerating things are pretty brute-force from some perspective.

If you want evidence that is irrefutable, then I suggest waiting for actual games to be shown.

I think we need to pause for a moment and appreciate the fact that these next gen machines will see the death of graphical issues that haunted consoles for a long time such as screen-tearing, jaggies, lack of AF, below 30 frame rate, etc. They certainly won't be missed.

You'll continue to see these issues. You won't magically have new developers with new consoles. It'll be the same assholes killing resolution and framerate in order to throw in more 'shiny' and bullshots.

do they plan to have a smaller power brick or at least get it inside the system?

wasn't a fan of the brick with it's own fan.

They will definitely have a smaller power brick going by the specs, this thing isn't going to use as much power as the 360 from what I can see.

I want to say that'sthejoke.png but I honestly can't tell

this is what i mean. posters like proelite have entered this schrodinger's cat realm where such is their lack of collateral, evidence or consequence for their assertions (which are repelled which much more vigour on more technically minded boards), their "i know something that you don't know" insight is essentially worthless. especially when they seem to be so involved in pushing a narrative.

i don't read his posts and see any conflict or deduction, just best case scenarios. that kind of poster is useless to me.

Not a tetchy, but it seems for the RAM a big factor will be how much Durango in particular uses for the OS

Does not help that they are either employed by Microsoft or their sources are instead. Perhaps the conjecture from GAF sources should be coupled with more concrete backing from now on or something? I mean, the whole secret sauce thing is so vague and amiss at this point..

I do find it funny that Steve and Thuway, two people who were largely disregarded long ago, seemed to be so accurate with information, and so early on too.

They're pretty good at tip toeing around NDA.

I wish James wasn't.

He's too good of a poster to resort to that.

For the record, I'm not of the opinion that Durango is "weak".

Just that the specs we have to go by indicate that there's a significant difference in bandwidth and GPU performance between Durango and Orbis based upon what we know.

This isn't a far fetched view, Eurogamer (at first glance) concurs.

I'm skeptical that accelerator units will provide that much of a difference (as both systems will have them)...but this is all subject to change with more information. But based on what we know, the performance divide is larger than last gen even if using similar components. Again, subject to change, but that's my outlook of things so far.

I actually remember the exact moment that Thuway got some real info, before he even shared it. He had been arguing the possibility of 4 Tflops in Orbis one week then the next week told me my expectations of 2.2-2.5 Tflops were too high. I was confused on his position change until he started elaborating.

It was a real bitch letting go of the teraflop numbers once more solid "real-world" numbers came in. But I was gently reminded that they aren't indicative enough to do so.
