Rumor: EA has the WWE license [Up: Or Take-Two?]

I've always been interested in what EA can do with a wrestling game. I'm excited if this rumor is true.

WWE Elite.

MMA engine to put in use again.
pay to unlock finishing moves

poor wrestling fans.

Should be interesting to see who they end up going with for development, it can't be much worse than what it was under THQ. (the excellent All-Stars excluded)

WWE games already sucked this gen.

Question is, will it now be WWE Madden or WWE Fifa?

And will they rebuild it entirely? Personally, I hope they do. I want more arcadey wrestling games. Or at least make a spin off.

Seriously though, if EA fuck up any of the character or story creation tools, I'll be so fucking bummed out.

Unfortunately, I think we're going to see this happen. If they build from the ground up with their own devs and engine we may have to wait 2-3 iterations before we see some of the recent Yukes features return. That really is a bummer.

From the other thread

WWE/THQ update is

Well, nothing official. Officially, nothing was said publicly, for a variety of reasons regarding the WWE video game license, although it will be very soon.

There is a deal in place but all the paperwork hasn't been completed. It is not with EA.

...

The WWE license was not part of the auction but is a separate entity and all information requiring its sale has been kept within very few in the company.

2K sounds like a solid bet.

YES YES YES

finally we will see nex gen graphics for a WWE game, fuck Yukes for using a PS2 engine for TWO GENERATIONS

EA will just do the same thing, a yearly release without actually doing anything more than updating the roster. EA is not the right company to introduce meaningful changes as their track record shows, they will stick with their engine for as long as possible too.

WWE Madden would be massive upgrade over the trash that is Smackdown

EA at least has the decency to upgrade the engine when it moves to a new generation of consoles

If they make a game that looks like that boxing game of theirs or invest some cash in the series then I'm all for this.

The Yukes games look like a total joke!

Aki or bust!

There's nothing saying that EA won't just partner up with Yukes.

EA has some of they key talent that worked on WWE All Stars and as a technically Sports game, Peter Moore would oversee it's development. I guarantee those staff and others from the UFC Elite team are being groomed to start development on a next-generation WWE game.

Yeah, because their MMA and Boxing game(s) have just been roster updates and yearly releases plagued with DLC!

Fact: EA Sports make the best Boxing and best MMA game(s), they will do WWE justice. The next WWE game might be a Yukes product but EA will be working on their own game.

If the license goes to 2k i might get John Cena to follow me on Twitter on NBA 2k14, together with Bieber of course

If it's EA they will probably recruit or create a North American team to do it. If it's 2K, I bet they stick with Yukes.

This should be really interesting to watch unfold.

I don't care if it's 2K or EA, I just don't want Yukes. Their CAW stuff is great, but the engine is not my cup of tea.

would be the worst possible outcome

Yeah, it would.

I like the Story stuff in the WWE games because you can make it really dumb but they aren't fun to play and look like shit. That TNA game by midway has much better Models and even though it controls like shit, still feels more fun than WWE 13.

I'm cringing at the thought of a developer starting from scratch on a new wrestling engine or building the old Aki engine into something that can be used today. It's going to take a long time to get all that customization back.

One thing Yukes got right was all the "create-a-modes" in the game. So much awesome customization. It's too bad the actual wrestling engine left a lot to be desired.

Agree, Yukes have had about 15 years, time for someone else. I am tired of doing finishers on guys and them getting up faster than me, and me pushing them off the HIAC that almost killed mrs. Foley's baby boy only for the opponent to instantly get up. Or me just doing a move on them and them proceeding to bounce around the ring like it was a trampoline

Hahaha, Vince has to be livid on never getting $200 million back.

Upcoming Future Endeavour list will include Daniel Bryan, Ambrose, Rollins, Cesaro, to make up for this.

Ten new John Cena items, increased PPV pricing, more commercials on 3 hour Raws.
