Official THQ Auction Results [Up2: Purchase Prices, Runner-Ups Revealed]

Maybe Koch Media bid not only for Volition, but some of their IPs in that price? Like Saint's Row?

it sounds like they paid what they felt volition were worth. saints row is apparently in development and was bought alongside volition because of that I'm understanding everything correctly.

as there were no red faction, punisher, descent: freespace or summoner titles in development, they weren't in the deal. this is based on my very limited understanding of the sale, I might and probably am wrong.

Ubi isn't militant about using uplay (unlike EA for Origin). They've released Steamworks games in the past, released games without uplay and they still release their stuff on Steam. It's unlikely that they would rip open an almost finished game just to change around the DRM in it.

Yes, I was mostly making a joke about Ubisoft habit of delaying PC versions of games.

Switching to Uplay would also affect the console versions as they use it, too.

Fair enough, I haven't played a console Ubisoft game in quite awhile so I wasn't aware.

Does that mean that KOCH overpaid by 15 million? If the backup was only 5?

I guess it's not too surprising that Vigil wasn't picked up. They just released Darksiders 2, which would mean that a potential buyer would need to fully fund Darksiders 3. As for Warhammer Dark Millennium, that title has had a troubled development history, starting as an MMO, then turning into a non-MMO (Action-RPG?) title midway through development. And there's always the possibility that the breakup would mean that they'd lose the license.

Assuming that Vigil+Darksiders was only available as a package deal now, my guess is that potential buyers decided let Vigil close down, grab the Darksiders IP on the cheap later, and develop it in-house after identifying and hiring key members of the dev team.

Actually, the 250k runner-up bid from Turtle Rock themselves for Evolve is kinda sad.

Like a labouring kid that shows up with its savings in the piggy bank and asks with innocent eyes "is this enough to buy my freedom?". And boom, a big publisher comes in, slams a stack of money on the table and snarls "back into the mines, kid".

As mentioned earlier, I think it's more likely that the bid was simply a safety net that would have saved the game in the event that others weren't interested. Otherwise, the project would have been canned.

You'd remember if you had, haha -- there's no escaping the giant "ACTION COMPLETED!" pop-up message. But, yeah, with the game scheduled for release in March, it must be nigh on complete, so I don't see anything changing unless Ubi announces a delay. That said, my guess is that since Ubi picked up the project on the cheap, it'll simply honour the publishing contract as-is and just let the game roll out the door with virtually no work on its own part.

Legacy IPs are staying with the shell THQ; presumably publishers who are privately interested will contact them separately and work things out. The good news is that THQ games that are not associated with the franchises that have been purchased shouldn't be pulled from sale just yet.

Microsoft owns Hydro Thunder now.

EA got NFL Blitz
Was NBA Jam before or after?

i'd chip in money to buy deblob, let's do it guys

also thq doesn't own quest 64, imagineer (rocket company) does

This:
1) makes sense
2) is a little bit less sad
Now I just want to play your bloody game, Turtle Rock.

I hope THQ can still find a buyer for Vigil Games. ZeniMax could buy them and form them togehter with id software, that are also located in Austin.

Lets do a Kickstarter to bid on Vigil. After we buy them, we can rename them to GAF Studios and put them to work on developing Shenmue 3.

That makes much more sense but is less hilarious/depressing than the story in my head.

:boo for realism

In all seriousness, it sucks about Vigil, but some of these franchises seem to have ended up in capable hands.

Turtle Rock's game could be a good pick up for T2.

Little surprised Volition went to Koch Media. I'll be honest, I'd never heard the name before this morning, though I've certainly played some of the games their Deep Silver label has published.

So...South Park PC is going to be Uplay enabled and no longer Steamworks ?

I'm glad Koch media bought Metro and Volition (including Ips ?).

Koch Media aka Deep Silver got both IPs (Metro more likely working with 4A/Author, Saint rows is theirs since they got Volition as well)

Koch Media's drug money got 'em

look at those happy faces! http://www.kochmedia.com/

Read the OP dude. Both went to Koch.

Please read the OP or the last 10 pages

Yup, I should have done that. Still thanks.

Also, pardon my ignorance, but is Koch media in any way related to the Koch Industries?

I sincerely doubt SEGA bought into the Warhammer:FB license recently only to just stumble mysteriously into purchasing relic. They've probably been looking to acquire relic for quite a while now. It feels like SEGA's being doing some serious long term planning and thinking.

They are

From what i find, before SEGA Jurgen Post was working for SONY BMG Music Entertainment - he should know digital business quite well.

This made me laugh way too much.
