Rumor: EA has the WWE license [Up: Or Take-Two?]

As long as Yukes is nowhere near it, I would give a new WWE game a chance. EA would probably be the best fit for that, in the long term anyway.

Wow, never seen them put side by side like that.

Did the WWE models actually get worse over time? And I have never heard of the TNA Impact! series before, but visually they look respectable when compared to the WWE series. Wow. A change of developers might actually do this series some good.

My only concern is that the create a character might not be as robust if they switch over to a different dev.... Videogame Character Wrestling needs to live on. It's the only reason why I even give a damn about this series at all.

TNA game was made by Midway San Diego. When Midway went bust they got bought by THQ and made WWE All Stars. They were then going to make a UFC game, but when THQ sold the licence to EA they closed the studio.

Very sad. WWE All Stars was a great game.

If this is true, I'm for it. Perhaps production values will finally rise again- I'm not sure how they'll create a new engine for the game, but it's time for a change.

Attitude > Warzone. Such a fun game, it was. Not THQ but still fun!

It was great at the time, and is certainly the reason we have the CAW systems we have today, but in retrospect using Mortal Kombat-style commands for moves in a wrestling game wasn't really the best idea.

This was why I preferred All Stars. Controls were much simpler. Yukes tried something simpler with Legends of WrestleMania, as well.

I hope EA can get AKI or atleast is left of them to do the game. It would be insta buy for so many of us who can remember a good WWE wresting game. Then maybe get the old games released on XBLA and PSN one can dream.

Oh my lord....

In fairness, TNA was on a modified Unreal Engine 3 and the artist were also good...that's about all they got right on that one.

As long as I can continue not buying WWE games and within an hour or two of visiting a friend who bought it become 80s-Hogan like in my ability to always kick out and eventually win based solely on that ability, then I'm ok with this :).

EA getting AKI to make the title makes no sense. They sell stupid amounts no matter how bad they are due to the WWE name alone, if that wasn't the case then THQ wouldn't have stuck with Yukes for so long.

It would generate a metric fuckton of goodwill if they got Syn Sophia to make it.

I still feel like whoever gets the license will still just hire Yukes since they are the only ones with a wrestling game engine that can be put out every year and make money.

That is a shame. It looks like Midway San Diego had a legitimately good wrestling engine for their games:

The fighting engine here looked really smooth. The motion capture looks good here and the transitions between animations are pretty smooth compared to the clunky ass THQuality of the WWE series.

Hope not because mean many more years of not buying a WWE game. It pisses me off to this day there is not 1 remotely decent WWE game in a decade. Used to be one of my favorite games would play with friends for hours and hours on end. We rent the newest smackdown game and want to throw the controller through the TV 10 minutes in.
