OK, this story just took a trip from bizarre to completely unbelievable. I now 100% do not believe any of this story. NO WAY is anybody dumb enough to not pick up that it was a guy.
Also, if Te'o really was talking to RT on the phone, the statement that he "talked to him in falsetto" just comes off more as a cover for the fact that these two were romantically involved. "Hey, we're not gay--I talked to him like I was a girl! Honest! We spent 1000s of hours on the phone, but he really thought I was a girl!"
Who is going to believe that?

Either that or they are covering for Tuiasosopo's accomplices. Te'o did say that Ronaiah told him there was a girl and two other guys involved.
Well, it's going to provide a whole lot of trashtalk fodder for his future opponents, but I doubt it will hurt his prospective NFL career in any way.

Of course there isnt any hard evidence. People are just speculating based on the facts that we have. There are inconsistencies in Teo's stories going all the way back to when he first mentioned her, he lied to family, friends, and all of America multiple times, and now it sounds like he might have spent hundreds of hours on the phone with a guy and he wont release the actual phone records. The more we hear the harder it becomes to believe he was dumped up until Dec. 2nd, so the only question is why would he or anyone else go through all this?
It seems to me the more we hear the more it seems like he was duped.
If they were in a secret gay relationship, why kill off the girlfriend and then make a big deal of it publicly? Wouldn't that just call more attention to the secret you are trying to hide? And if this was all an act designed to hide their gay relationship, why was Ronaiah trying to catfish multiple people?
It's possible that Ronaiah is gay, and being a Christian he can't act on his feelings, so trying to catfish guys and then sparking up relationships with them is his way of fulfilling that need.
I highly, highly doubt that Manti is gay though.

Most likely he did not spend hundreds of hours on the phone with Ronniah Tuisccupo. It sounds like he was duped for a few weeks when Kekua was talking to him and then wised up.
He's a pathological liar. He lied about her because he could. As someone who used to lie a ton up until my 16th birthday, I know what it feels like to make up stories for the sake of making up stories. You know what you're saying is a lie, but you say it anyways because it makes you a person you'd like to be.
Manti Te'o lied because he wanted to be the perfect guy. He wanted to be Brian Urlacher and Prince Charming rolled into one. He first lied about Kekua because of insecurities. He continued to dramatize everything because he wanted people to feel bad for him.
Being a pathological liar is difficult to explain. Most of the lies I initially created were because of an insecurity. After a while, I lied out of habit. I wanted everyone to like me. In my sophomore year of high school, I had a different persona and back story for each group of friends. Some were more dramatic than the other. All were total bullshit. It took me understanding that the things I was saying were just too far-fetched for a normal person and that it made me look worse.
Te'o needs to fess up because he's looking like I made myself look to most of my peers in the early years of high school. No one likes a liar, especially one that constantly bombards you with bullshit.

You make some really good points. There is so much about this story that doesnt make any sense. If he was duped why did he continue to bring it up after he found out? If I was tricked like this I would be upset I wouldnt want to ever bring it up, I would just hope that the media would get bored with the story like they always do and not mention it anymore, but at the Heisman presentation he brought it up without even being asked. Him never trying to see her in the hospital when she was in there for months seems crazy to me. Thi really is the weirdest story I can ever remember.
Edit: Mully thanks for posting that. I guess I cant understand this since I have never been in a situation like that.

All those hours on the phone. Think about how much of that was hot and steamy phone sex. Manti Teo may not be gay, but he has definitely had hours and hours of phone sex with a dude.

After seeing the majority of the interview on Nightline last night, it's pretty obvious that he's just really, really, really dumb. I know there are reports that he was with other chicks in South Bend, but to allow yourself to be strung along for nearly threes is ridiculous. I bet he doesn't go to the combine and will hold private workouts.

Great post Mully. I don't know if I was ever a pathological liar, but I definitely would make up stories for attention when I was younger. I think that's why this whole thing smells like bullshit to me. It's lies on top of lies, something I would have done in those days.

The only reason to skip the combine would be to skip the interviews. Teo actually needs a good showing in terms of the physical stuff to try and erase that championship game from peoples minds, plus even if he does private workouts GMs are still going to want to interview him. If he refuses to do any interviews he will definitely fall in the draft.
He's going to get a negative score on the Wonderlic.

My dad is a liar like this. He's in his mid 60s now. It is a disease.
No one takes him seriously. You can't talk to him because it is all bullshit. After some point I think liars actually can't tell fiction from fact, their brains don't go thru that judgement mode anymore, because that muscle area hasn't been used.
It really is sad, it is all based around insecurity, wanting people to believe you are better than you really are.
Its sad because its my dad and he isn't a human being to me.

There was never a point where I thought everything was a lie (as in Manti created all of this) but there's still too much that doesn't make sense even with the voicemails and phone records.
Something really, really crazy was going on between Manti and RT, I don't think it has anything to do with them being gay, but definitely something stranger than just one guy pranking another.

This shit gets weirder and weirder...
Tell your pop to stop looking at the things he doesn't have and he'll get better. I learned that young and practiced self control since then. There are times though where I'll blurt something out and immediately correct myself.
