Put "Star" in the title, JJ Abrams will Direct it: Episode VII gets a Director

I think they will wait to see how it turns out. Would be cool to get a different director for each just to see all the different styles and visions.

I am excited that this moving ahead so fast.

Story is already outlined yes? And the script is being worked on? Now they have a director.

Hmm maybe this frees up Affleck to do Justice League! Ahh hell WB will offer that to JJ as well!

Here's the thing though, Abrams didn't want to do it and now he's been talked into it.

I'm not sure what to think of that. It could result in a really shitty/unenthusiastic film.
 
If people are going to ding him for Star Trek, y'all should realize our good friends Kurtzman and Orci are to blame for the script more than anything else.

I believe Arndt outlined the entire TRILOGY - 40-50 pages, and that template will be used for the other two writers (one of whom is expected to be Kasdan).

This thing is gonna have to start shooting sometime this spring/summer, I'd think. They don't have much time to get this set up, shot, and put into post before 2015 hits.
 
I'm fine with this if true and actually like Abrams (lens flare and all), but then again I was always going to be happy since Lucas wasn't directing these.

Please, please, please hire an art department and defer to them. JJ, you are a very good director but your sensibilities for visual design are terrible.

Why can't it go into production late this year into next summer and still release in 2015? Don't most blockbusters shoot only a year before release?
 
I don't give a shit either way, but the tears are awesome lol. Would have been interesting to see Ben take the helm.
 
I enjoyed Star Trek and Super 8's direction, I'm okay with this if true but it would've been cool if they went with someone like Neill Blomkamp who's up and coming and knows special effects.

The obvious main issue will be screenplay, it has to be good, that's the main thing that matters imo. Writers are severely underrated and I don't know why, if the screenplay sucks everything else falls apart with it unless it's a movie that isn't supposed to be about story/dialogue.
 
I'd be super happy with an Affleck helmed Episode VII though; guy is so much more talented than Abrams it's not even funny.
 
Do want. Not like exceptional directing had to do anything with why the old Star Wars were good. This is only a plus cause Abrams is awesome.
